Moderator's Report

A bit of a mess this.

The incident starts towards the end of lap three and lasts for a couple of corners ending with a stationary car being hit by leading GT2s at Woodcote.
Syd, Jure and Adam arrive at the next to last right hander almost together after a battling lap. Syd is first tapped very lightly by Jure as both run wide, Adam on a faster, inside line takes advantage to overtake both but makes firmer contact with a recovering Syd sending Syd right to the outside of the right hander. So far I judge racing incidents but worse is to come.
Adam has now escaped and Jure finds himself back on the racing line into Woodcote. Roadrunner has momentum on him as Jure has been slowed in the contact. Syd also slowed by contact tries to drop in behind Jure without realising Roadrunner is now immediately behind Jure.
There is side by side contact caused by Syd trying to regain the racing line before it is safe to do so. Roadrunner comes of much worse from the contact being forced into the pit wall making heavy contact before spinning into the exit to Woodcote. Although I have sympathy with Syd having been nudged twice, he is to blame for this part of the incident as effectively he has rejoined the track unsafely albeit with mitigating circumstances. For these reasons I will issue a warning and not take away places.
In the final part of the incident the leading GT2 cars arrive. Dan Minton is right behind SBG and even though SBG does well to avoid contact with Roadrunner's stranded car, Dan does not have a realistic chance to avoid the huge contact which occurs ending both races. I do not consider that Roadrunner had a realistic amount of time to press escape after his accident so this is a racing incident - with a few more seconds, I am sure RR would have quit.

  • Syd Drakewarning — Take care when rejoining racing line especially early in a race.

Server replay time: 2332s

Mark Jonzo allows TT and Hal through to lap in their faster GT1s on the Hanger Straight. Lazlow is close behind these two in 6th place but misjudges his entry into the corner making contact at high speed with MJ.
MJ is well into the corner when the accident happens and has no reason to expect to be lapped at this point when there is another easy passing point just around the corner.

  • lazlow (Lazlow)penalty — dangerous overtake whilst lapping — 2 places lost

That is a different option to the one that we are talking about (i think).

I am not sure of the exact options for the Nvidia control panel. Sorry Sad

Later on Freq caught me, I let him by, then he immediately made a kack @T1 (his last lap I believe, for a moment I thought race is over, lol) so I unlapped myself and finished on same lap. For real, server probably considered I went from +1 to +2 and then back to +1 lap down.  Grin Roll Eyes

Sorry if I confused Jure. Me and Simon wanted to do a photo finish for our site report (www.teamshark.org.uk) and I had to lose 20 seconds on the last lap. So I tried to give you as much space as I could.

In any case. Congrats podiums  Cool

Vertical sync locks the frames per second to your refresh rate. so if that is 60hz, you will get 60fps.
If that is what you're looking for, no need to do that in nvidia or ati control panel. you can do it in the the GTR2config which is in your gtr2 folder. Now if that is not what you're trying to do, ignore this comment.

Only yours to lose now Legz...no pressure  Wink Andy will have to fly the Porsche flag against your Fezza  Tongue
That was true before last night race (when I had a nine point lead) but sadly that boat has sadly now sailed I fear (down to just a two point lead). But if Martin (well done on your finish BTW) & myself can get one more decent result between us, we should lift the GT2 team trophy  Cool

Got on the server an hour before the race & somehow managed to knock more then 1 sec off my PB. "Nice" I thought Grin & that was putting me comfortably (about 3 tenths Wink) ahead of Purdie's lap times.

Qually I set a decent time, but half a sec down on what I'd done just ten mins earlier, but very happy that I'd have my nose in-front of MJ on the grid, even if normality had returned & yet again I was as expected back behind Purdie. We GT2's were also graced today by the presence of Minton & SBG, so a podium finish was most certainly not on the cards.

Started well, kept Purdie honest as SBG & Minton disappeared amongst the GT1 back markers. I'd even say I was comfortable for the 1st three laps, as MJ warmed up. But then we had about 15 laps where he wouldn't leave me alone. Anyone would think he was trying to get past Roll Eyes. Seriously, the biggest bap between MJ & me for 15 laps was 0.8 secs, but the norm was much closer. There were a couple of bits where I could eek out the gap, then the rest of the track was MJ's. Once he was putting on the pressure, Purdie pulled away & I remember announcing on TS that I'd gone to full defence Shocked Tongue

MJ, I might regret typing this... but it's always a pleasure to have you following me. I realise that could sound like I'm taking the salmon, but what I mean is... I have 100% confidence that you'll be assertive but both fair & patient, but most importantly you're not going to hoof me off by accident. So a massive thanks for the fight, it really was great stuff & when you got past, you immediately started to make a gap & I couldn't stick with you. I was gutted to hear on TS from my team mate that he'd just had a collision with you. Though not as disappointed as him (or yourself I'm sure) as he removed himself from the race immediately. I don't know if it will be any consolation, if I point out 'I was still going to beat you tonight anyway'  Wink Grin.

The race went on, Minton had dropped out, SBG was miles up the track & Purdie was just in front after a couple of mistakes on his part. It's now lap 24, I start the back straight, I press my pit request button, my pit crew tells me over the radio "pit in at the end of this lap", I complete the lap & pit... only to find my mechanics working on Ginsters car! Shocked Shocked (how does that happen Huh) I tuck my self in behind him as best I can, hoping he's not got long to go, it took ages (the lapchart shows, his was one of the slowest pit stops by anyone Roll Eyes), while I wait, Gazza clobbers be from behind which means I now have damage to repair on my car too Roll Eyes. Finally I get out the pits to find I've got to serve a stop/go for pit lane speeding. Angry

I came out the pits for the 2nd time, 31 secs behind Dave with 16 laps to go. With 5 laps to go I had that gap down to 2.5 secs. Then a 'gaggle' of GT1 lappers caught me, they all got past fine except for the last one, I tried to get out the way, ran wide onto the grass & he followed me, hitting my rear end & sending me into a spin. I always think it's nice when people wait  Roll Eyes nono. The gap to Dave was back to 12 secs & despite doing my best, I had no chance. Finished 2.5 secs behind in what was a good chase.

I'm bitterly disappointed for two reasons about that race:
1) I robbed myself by not practising where the pit entry line was.
2) Without that & having to wait for SBG in my garage (for 51 secs), I'd have picked up another podium & some good points for my tally .

I guess it just wasn't meant to be last night. surrender

I look forward to the race in a fortnight, I look forward to a race like this.... but with some lady luck on my side  Cheesy

Conventional wisdom says Ginsters pitted without a confirmed request. But only he will know that.

Lucked a 3rd in class!! excellent!
Was slightly off pace, no practice! Smiley
Thanks to Legzy for great race strategy, Spanner for kindly pulling his wheel off his desk on the last lap to give me a undeserved position!

Have to admit to not being impressed by the GT1 guys.
No incident or individual particularly but the general feel of it is 'this is a GT1 race' the GT2's are an also ran and are treated that way.
so many times great race battles in GT2 are ruined by passing GT1's!
Works both ways I guess!  Undecided Just the nature of the beast!  Wink

Stay on the racing line.

I've seen problems (and encountered them myself) practically every time GT2 driver tried to be over-polite. Combine it with over-cautious GT1 driver and you have a recipe for disaster, both drivers trying to do the oposite of what's logical and, more importantly, safe.

Or vice versa, two or more GT2s stubbornly racing on without checking the mirrors well enough. I don't know for other GT1 drivers but if I see two or more slower cars racing I make it a principle to pass them all at the same time in order not to spoil their fun. Most incidents in traffic are caused in situtations where cars in either class are involved in racing, be it 2 or more GT2s racing and not noticing or even slightly ignoring single GT1 behind them ("I worked for 7 laps to catch the guy in front of me and I'm not giving away those seven tenths of a second just like that") or the oposite, more GT1s racing - that's where you should be extra cautious since it's a safe bet that no.2 and no.3 GT1 behind you will try to go by at the same time no.1 GT1 in that particular group does.

We can be patient, trust me. Smiley I had at least 3 contacts with GT2 cars, twice with the same bimmer and once with a porker - all of them occured due to "OK, you obviously don't intend to let me by now.... no problem, I'll wait... oh, you're flashing me by while going through the corner... and changing line....right, let's try... no, no, no, don't change the line again" and wham...  Undecided

Thing is if slower car does something like that GT1 driver is forced to react in an instant and that's not always good or prudent but it will happen if you invite the guy behind to go by at the wrong time and place. Add another GT1 class car right behind him and he'll do it even faster, fearing "if I don't take this invite and pass backmarker the guy right behind most certainly will..."

Truth be told I did observe a bit of overambitious gulping of traffic in "2nd group of GT1s", i.e. group I was in, that'd be cars in 7th to 12th place or so. We raced each other in a very similar fashion too but that's logical, the lower you go on the grid the less experienced the drivers are plus they're on less stable cars due to crapier setups compared to frontrunners.

Still - theory of chaos implemented in practice via full grid experiment is always fun.  Wink

I hate Oschersleben and think as an enduro track it will be very tight but I do like Donington!  Tongue

Just as a sidenote: I read a post by Dave recently about not having the virtual wheel on. I decided to turn it off for this race and have to admit I prefer it on Smiley. The car just feels too empty lol  Tongue

My pit crew actually refused my 1st attempt at a pit stop request due to another car in my (our) pit space. I tried again a half a lap later and it was accepted. First time I've encountered that radio message - just shows how full the server was.

Does anyone know how GTR2 assigns garages and pit spaces when the drivers exceed capacity?

At the start of Q2 get into the car and look who's in the garages near you. As far as I know it's the same order in race and you have more chance to avoid this situation if you know who the drivers are and where on the track are they at the moment you want to pit.  Smiley
