Wohoo, go team, etc
Quite an uneventful race for me but a great team result. I've got to thank Stig for his setup, it's the second race in a row that I've used one of his ones and been faster for it
Clive was impressively quick, Syd had a good result considering lap 1 and I was watching XD showing Stig's progress in the race and willing him on to a podium finish - shame, better luck next time
LOL
You will have to slow down a bit if you are looking for “eventful” John.
Like you, I was also watching Stig and Syd on XD but had to give myself a telling off after a near disaster due to lack of concentration.
I tried to write this report last night but realised that there was such a lot going on in the first two laps that I needed to watch the replay again to get everything in order.
I used the timer instead of the lights because when I joined the grid they were already showing green. I made a decent start and followed John into T1. Behind me, Giuseppe had a small overlap to my rear wing and behind him, I think it was Stig who had a similar overlap to him. The result, as everything got tighter on corner entry, was that Giuseppe was sent towards the inside wall but he recovered quickly and was back behind me as we approached the hairpin.
I was seriously intent on not clouting John at the hairpin and the following corners so Guiseppe and Manteos closed up on me through the hairpin and the following two lefthanders. At the next left hander Giuseppe ran into the back of me and pushed me wide, then nipped up the inside. He then took a wide line into the following right hander and I stuffed my car down the inside(guess he was letting me back through). As we exchanged hub caps and door handles, Manteos sneaked through on the inside of both of us.
Manteos and I headed for the two fast rights at the end of the lap side-by-side and I had to give him best. So Manteos crossed the line in 2nd spot with me 3rd and Giuseppe 4th.
EDIT! Just remembered that Manteos ran wide at T2 on lap two and as a result we went three abreast through Moss and sorted ourselves out at the right hander onto the back straight.
I didn't seem to get any tow to speak of on the back straight and into the hairpin Giuseppe launched his TR4 up the inside of mine but ran wide onto the grass and I was able to regain 3rd, although there was a fair bit of pain exchanged at the first left hander as the bloke in 5th was getting in on the act as well!
All was calm in the next two lefts but for some reason Giuseppe spun, without any help, at the first right.
That left me to concentrate on Manteos.
I closed over the next few laps and then, after I had looked at a couple of gaps and decided that discretion was the better part of valour, he put a wheel on the outside curb at T1 and spun.
That left me in the clear and I spent the rest of the race with my chin on the tank and a watchful eye on the pack behind to see that nothing fast and Italian had emerged.
Congratulations to John and SBRC as a whole. I would have loved to see Stig lock out the podium for us. A good recovery drive from Syd too.
We had the first four on the grid after practice, which was testament to the value of having John's TT lap to work with during practice.
Don't know how you do a virtual on-line party but we are certainly due one.
