I got a Crash back to the multiplayer screen. NOT a CTD.  which is different.
Same as me. I think that was a disconnect because my game didn't crash. It was as if I'd pressed esc and retired back to the multiplayer screen.

Pete. Sorry but dont know Linux much. more of a windoze guy.

but the text shows a couple of errors with the BOOT files. had any powercuts or PC crashes recently ?? prior to tonight ?

Im thinking that your data should be fine, as i say not up on Linux but maybe run a repair disc on the HDD to reinstall the boot files etc. or just a reinstall of the operating system.

Hope its not a big issue.

Which Linux do you have?
As far as I understand you have to do a fsck.

I saw that message. I guessed it might have a similar option to CHDSK  ( checkdisk on Windows)

One of my servers is dual boot (Linux and Windows 10) but I've never been brave enough to try hosting GPL via Linux. I'm sticking with Windows 10 for as long as I can. A move to Windows 11 will be problematic (I'm not going to buy new PCs with "certified" processors just to host GPL).

It could be a hard disk failure Pete. Try booting from a CD and doing a disk scan (I'm not sure what the current tools are for analysing hard disks). If it is a hard disk problem I think you'll have to boot from CD to get the tools running.

I think fsck creates and manages partitions, not sure if it also does the Linux equivalent on the Windows chdsk.

There seems to be a lot of good advice here.

All this has scared me off Linux again eek

From that prompt,  can you run:
fsck -y  /dev/sdb2

?

EDIT: I see the PC Doctor has replied Smiley

I would ask how many HDDs you have connected, linux is sensible if you just plug and unplug HDDs without the un-mounting procedere.
Yes something seems wrong with a HDD or a setting in bios for them (AHCI, SATA or UEFI)

USB (HID) is another sensible point, you should not too often change the ports of a device.

Save the main GPL folder and set up a fresh mint 21.1 with wine 6.03  Wink

PS

If you have your install USB drive of the PC just start the PC from there, in these USB .isos are lots of repair tools included!

Maybe need to boot from a CD or USB , but a quick check online stated this..  worth a try.  seems it may be able to access the repair from a bootup.

their are othes switches, a b and -y or something that does a auto repair after you start the fsck jobbie.
so worth a goggle first.  but worth trying.

Run fsck on Linux Root Partition

To do so, power on or reboot your machine through the GUI or by using the terminal: sudo reboot.
Press and hold the shift key during boot-up. ...
    Select Advanced options for Ubuntu.
Then, select the entry with (recovery mode) at the end. ...
    Select fsck from the menu.

All gone to pot in the Bennett house. Racing rig Linux now won't reboot and Will's Windows machne has screwed up Explorer. Also, some keys on my server's keyboard have stopped working

top row of numbers has gone. What has happened? Alas, no time in the near future to investigate.

I cannot offer any insight on this and quite frankly, if I did you would be well advised to ignore it!!

Sh*t happens and all of us are grateful to you guys who run the servers and provide the platform for us to race on so don't beat yourself up. The gods know all of that server stuff is way above my pay grade, I can barely keep my solitary PC working despite the lavish care I spend on it. Any normal person would have thought that the weekly hose down and polish alongside the car on a Sunday morning must surely keep it in tip top condition?? Roll Eyes

Reinstalling EVERYTHING. Boot repairs not working. I think something has gone wrong in my SSD.

Still, nothing like a fresh PC when all is up and running again. I'm going with Cookie's advice. Mint 21 with Wine 6.03 on both machines. Hopefully I'll be up and running by next Tuesday's 55 race.

Grieved to learn of all the problems, Pete.  Stick with it, mate.  She'll come good.

This race has been rescheduled to 11th April which coincidentally is 58 years to the day racing was first held at Ingliston. Pete's server has been fixed so hopefully there will be no problems this time.

The first race was null and void so there was no impact on the token count. This race now becomes Round 6. So depending on how you planned out your season, you may need to check you will have the right number of tokens for the car of your choice.
