Season 39 – 1955 GP - PRIVATEERS – Round 6 – Valentino
The sixth race in the 1955 Grand Prix series finds us at Turin in Italy. Parco del Valentino (also known as Valentino Park) is a popular public park in Turin. It is located along the west bank of the Po river. Several races were held here between 1935 and 1955, it is the 1955 layout that we will be using for this race. This is a very challenging circuit with virtually no run-off areas, plenty of undulations and blind corners. Discretion is the better part of valour for this track. The 1955 race held at this circuit was a non-championship formula 1 race called the VII Gran Premio del Valentino. The race was won by Alberto Ascari in a Lancia D50. This was Lancia’s first ever victory in a Formula 1 race.
Please note: We are using the v3 version of this track. It is the final and best version with a new layout, new objects and new textures. Ginetto also moved the Start/Finish line to the correct place according to pictures from the real race in 1955. We are NOT using the older version which has a track directory called turin55.

Requesting a grid entry to replace those adsent. There are 2 tracks ahead, to fully test the ability of man and machine to survive.

Watch out for Philippe... According to GPLRank he can get round Monza 55 seconds under the benchmark time. Wow
In practice (against the ai) I've had a couple of freezes. I think this is due to graphic overload and not a problem with the track. Are there light versions of this track and mod? I'd hate to miss out later because of a freeze.

Had a quick look for a lite version, without success. A quick way to make an improvement is to reduce detail level, if graphics load is your problem. I run one click down from max. always, as it makes more difference than shown. 50% is still driveable if needed.

Curses. I qualified on pole and then popped my Lancia's engine on Lap 6. I had no problems in testing and I was pushing much harder than in the race. Never mind. That's two races with no points. Good luck to those still on the track. I'm off for beer.

Congrats. Francesco - a finish is a win. Cruising along all alone and enjoying the nice weather, when without reason, parts of the motor decided to stop and admire the scenery! Same thing as Pete. Prevous time here, I ran out of fuel on the last lap. It's all highly suspicious . . . . grumble!

Just how fragile are the 55 cars? At the start of the season when I was blissfully unaware, I drove them like I stole them and they were great. In the races where I've been careful, the engine has gone BOOM.

They are fragile and you need to be very careful on gear changes. Make sure that on upshifts the revs just drop and do not spike up before dropping. On downshifts it is also easy to over rev the engine when you are trying to get as much engine braking as possible. Great time in qually btw. I shall expect to see you in the Works ranks next season.

There is also a random factor, which can kill what seems a healthy motor. Science has progressed, but these older machines were experimental testbeds, with frequent failures. Some of that is built into the cars we race. BTW - no gridspot 2 so started 3.
