As you all no doubt know I have had bestowed upon me the fantabulous honour of an official UKGPL number for my server.

I'd like to thank ................................................. 5 minutes and a few tears later .................

Anyway, initially it was intended to be a practise server for the 65 novices I race in, but it is now being used to host other classes.

I have ghosted it and have got a couple of hard drives setup to go in there at short notice, so I am now looking to install a few mods and tracks that I may be called upon to host for.

I'm going to install the 66 and the 69 mod and for kicks the night mod, but I am looking for suggestions of tracks to install.

Apart from the original tracks I have added Snetterton and plan on adding Le Mans, Solitude, Brand Hatch and Clermont Ferrand.

Feel free to post suggested tracks for me to add.

If you're planning installing the night mod may I recommend Hockenhiem. It comes with the mod as standard and would be terrific for slipstreaming battles through the black forest.

For the average day time driving it would be brilliant if Cadwell Park was uploaded although I do remember from a previous thread that it may have online issues. Just thought I'd my two pennies worth.

It was deserved Mike... to the day when we can also honour your driving.....

With the mods you might want East London(65), Reims(66) and Montjuic(69) to complete the championship schedules.  Also Jarama was a non-championship race in 67 and was on the 68 schedule, with Mont-Tremblant.  If you use the wrong update for Mont-Tremblant you might dislike it- use the one here:http://forum.racesimcentral.com/showthread.php?t=175759.  Don't blame me when if you find yourself suddenly liking Mosport much more though!

Goodwood- often a venue for non-championship races in the sixties, very pretty with the update and has run-off areas, I'd like to know how stable it is with the 65s.

Oulton Park ("oulton")- also used for non-championship races, recently updated, also pretty.  On the UKGPL race list.

Albi- French F2 track, very popular and on the UKGPL race list, simple for novices.  Grass could be greener though....

Other tracks you could consider- Hockenheim was an F2 track in the sixties, though the 65s have many fast tracks.  Imola which isn't quite as fast or simple, was also an F2 track and is more fun to drive (though who would replace Monza on the schedule?), the Rome F2 track Vallelunga might not be wide enough, though much kudos if you drive it and Jim Pearson's Adelaide 67, the modern layout with sixties graphics is very popular, though I'm not sure why he had to include the chicane!

Keep the suggestions for circuits coming.

I have the Night mod and the 66 mod installed but the 69 says it needs GEM+ 2.6 but the newest I can find is 2.5.

Anyone have a link to the newer one?

This is the link to the latest GEM:

I can't find anything that says the 66 mod needs version 2.6. Everything I found just says install the latest GEM and the link I've posted is the one given on the 66 mod site.

I think the 69 mod info asks for GEM 2.4.64. That has been superseded now but the mod will work with any of the subsequent versions

Thanks Ken.

I can't find the link I read last night but the speedgeezers site says the same as you, 2.4.64 and I have 2.5.9 anyway so I'm good to go.

I can go off people you know.

With the mods you might want East London(65)

Is there a specific 65 version of East London? If so I can't see it.

Also, some of these others don't have loose grids files, do they exist or do you just start carefully on them?[/quote]

They're not versions of the tracks, its just that East London was scheduled in the 65 season, Reims in the 66 season and Montjuic in 69.  Bugatti was used for the 67 French GP, not Rouen, which was scheduled for the last time in 68.

Loose grids are easy enough to make, just ask for the ones you want.   The edits are made to the [ starting_grid_0 ] section of the track.ini.  2x2 grids convert the easiest to 1x1 staggered, but the other grid types aren't difficult.

OK, I'll have a look.

I installed all the tracks suggested so far.

OK then, being such a L337 h@ckz0r I can edit a few text files.  Cheesy

Here are the tracks I have installed that do not have Loose Grids yet.

avusnite
bellenuit
brnite49
clermont
goodwood
grnznite
hocknite
jarama
jopsnite
kyalnite
mexnite
mildirt
monighto
montjuic
monznite
niteWERK
nurbnite
rouenite
sebnite
silvnite
spanite
vallunga
watnit48
watnite
wiesnite
zandnite

I presume that the easiest option for the night tracks is to just copy the [ starting_grid_0 ] section from the day version. I don't see how that could go wrong.

For the others I can create my own. The standard format seems to be that the first value represents distance along the track relative to Start-Finish and the second value represents lateral position across the track.

stall_0 = 6515.90 -2.50
stall_1 = 6500.90  2.50
stall_2 = 6485.90 -2.50
stall_3 = 6470.90  2.50

Here's a quick question, if I edit these and the track has a grid that isn't straight for example do I have to compensate on the lateral setting so people don't end up on the grass for example?

Looking at them I don't think so, but also the whole grid seeing the flag is a concern too.

Is there anything I need to be aware of before I go and create the files?

If anyone has any Loose grids configured for any of these tracks above I would appreciate it if you could let me have them.

Thank you

The lateral distances are all relative to the track centre line so no need to worry about people being on the grass unless the track necks down suddenly.  At Monaco the back of the grid is facing the opposite way to the man on pole.

When I ceate a grid I usually run a race with 19 AI cars so that I can check it out.  Making sure that the pole sitter is on the right side and can see the starter is a good move.  Just look at the view from each car on the grid.  I like each car to be able to see the next car back in his mirrors.

At Zeltweg I have moved the grid back so that all the cars start on the same lap.

I see that the 66 and 69 mod has also created some new track.ini files, track66.ini and track69.ini

I guess that these too will need new grids, or are they already there?

Why am I asking instead of checking?

Not sure.

You will need to change all of them.

At least you spotted it before you have run the race.  Not all of us have.  Grin
