Installed GPL using installer and following instructions. Game works - go into practice - drive car - everything ok. Press esc then enter to go into pit - CTD 'windows has encountered a problem' etc. Using Vista with 8800GTX. Anybody have a solution?

I've not heard of that one specifically, but there's some general advice for CTD problems here:

Thanks Steve, that was very useful. It's obviously something to do with Open GL. I put in the core ini fix for the diect3d7, switched to that and it worked fine. Now if I could only locate those old settings I could find my missing 3 seconds per lap.......

....I know where you can get those 3 seconds. Practice, practice and, um, oh yeah - practice ;-)!

I'm pretty sure that is an NVIDIA driver issue. Seemingly the latest 163's aren't good for GPL. Best to use 162's but find more detail here.

I'm using the 169 drivers, which seem to work OKish with GTL, GTR2 and Race 07, although I do get more picture freezes than I used to.

That's the point I think. The newer games will be OK but GPL is vintage 1998 and it is possible that as manufacturers concentrate on developing DX10 etc etc that this sort of thing will become more of a problem.
