Can you please test: "emulate a virt desktop" in winecfg and set the size to the native resolution of your monitor

With this your GPL menues will be 640x480 small, but driving will be fullscreen - I love it! You can tweak sound or teamspeak  when in race!

I give you the missing parts in some minutes... (installing GPL atm Wink )

If this is your desktop, where is your panel?

PS

is the "disable intel speed step" checked?

it's very good,
very low power consumption with 50% better performance than my good GTX1060!

PS

For GPL a GTX1660super is like driving to the supermarket with a F1 race car! You never can use the power!

I have to press windoze button to get my panel

also have no task bar like you have

I am running GPL from my hdd install because the linux install is kaput

because of all the linux problems I am getting I am thinking to scrap my current linux install and start over with a completely fresh one with a new clean (unformatted ) ssd . (remember I had formatted my ssd by mistake , then had to use another programme to write to the disk . I think something went horribly wrong with the first installation hence all the troubles  Roll Eyes

do you think this would be the best plan ?

Yes Bernie, this is the best way to get a clean install.

Maybe you get Teamspeak on other PC so I can assist you to set it up.

Bernie you are not alone!
Andreas had nearly same problems, his problem was W10 - it recognized the empty SSD and took it in its claws...

So if you use a SSD for mint, dont have it plugged with W10 before you have installed mint.

You can do:

unplug the W10 SSD/HDD

plug the USB mint and let it start by pressing F11 at boot - so you get the boot choices and choose: UEFI USB mint

From this USBmint livesystem you run gparted and delete-erase the content of the SSD or partition where you want mint to be installed.

Bernie I hope to have good news,
my recherche about your problems gave that the kernel of mint 5.4 is too conservative for this GTX1660super and your modern CPU  Roll Eyes

I bought a nice little Ryzen APU bundle and combined it with my GT1030
In mint20 I had some strange behaviour of the GPU booting in save mode...

Now I tried the less conservative OS manjaro XFCE and had great success!

It has the same looking desktop but a way more modern engine under the hood Wink

Manjaro runs linux kernel 5.8 wich knows your CPU + GPU and runs last NVidia driver 450  Grin
You can set the driver to "nonfree" in the install dialogue and have NV450.66 automatically installed!

You have to choose wine in the software manager, no need to go to winehq Wink

Give it a try!
