UKGPL Season 24 65 Novices TrophyRace 2 AlbiWelcome to the second round of the Novices Trophy for Season 24. We move to Europe and specifically France. Our race track is Albi. The Circuit d'Albi is near the small South Western French town of Le Sequestre. The circuit has nearly 80 years of history in motor-racing and is one of the oldest permanent racetracks in the world. It started as a venue for hill climbs, which is odd, because it is pancake flat, apart from a couple of awkward bumps at vital corners. Double Droite represents an overtaking opportunity as it is at the end of the longest straight but beware... heavy braking makes it easy to lose control at the corner's apex. In general it can be hard to pass here and you will need to be patient. At Kyalami there was a full grid and the first corner produced mayhem. The first corners here are fairly difficult and patience is ESSENTIAL. The first lap will be fully moderated within the red zone. The red zone will be the ENTIRE first lap Please check the Season 24 pages for details regarding rules and the Novices Trophy pages in particular. There are NO chassis restrictions for this race. Race List | IGOR | Server | UKGPL_3 | IP Address | ping ukgpl3.dyndns.org | Race date | 05-02-2013 | | Qualification Time | ~20:45 UK time (minimum of 30 mins) | Race Time | race starts at 21:30 UK time | Track | Abi | Variant | 65F1 the 2.02 Release of the 65mod should be used | Damage Model | INT | Race length | 31 laps | RED ZONE | All of Lap 1 | Password | see above | Replay | available after the race here | Qualifying may start before 9pm, if so, Reserve drivers should leave the server when 35 minutes of qualifying remains and only rejoin when 30 minutes of qualifying is left. This is to ensure that Full Time drivers get priority in joining. Please restrict chat to pit messages if necessary, and this includes the end of the race, until all running drivers have completed the necessary laps. The Novice races are run under Int Long rules and all incidents in the red zone on Lap 1, at least, will be moderated. For this race, the red zone extends to the whole of Lap 1. There is no limit on the amount of resets but EACH Shift/R MUST be followed by a Stop n Go. 65 Patch: The 2.02 Release of the 65mod can and should be used. You need a working installation of the 65 mod to install the 2.02 Update. All the 65 Mod files can be found herePassword: see aboveDriver lists can be found on the championship standings page

Another event that turned out to be quite fun in these buzzy cars.
Apparently I must have been coasting around out there, because I had enough fuel left for another 10 laps! Could have done without that extra weight in the closing laps. Although, realistically I was never going to get up to Bernie despite it looking close at times. There was always a possibility of a mistake, but if there were any - were smaller than mine... Well done fella!
Looks like I may have got 100% on track. Clearly was not trying hard enough!
Well done podium/other chaps.
Cheers, Dave.

Lovely circuit to drive in these cars. Have to check if it's being used in GTL this year or not. Thanks to the chaps who helped me out with some setups, much appreciated guys.
Won't be able to make the next one at Mexico so have a good'un.
Cheers

I really enjoyed that one, as Tony says a great circuit well suited to the 65's.
got a new PB during the race of 1:19.xx but was way off the pace of the leaders.
must say I enjoyed the few laps I had with you Tony W towards the end of the race, had been a bit lonely until then.
I only saw one other car for lap after lap, and that was one that came out from behind the Armco... no way I could miss it..
other than that a nice steady race.
must also say thanks to the fast guys for allowing a little bit of space and time for us slower guys to get out of your way in a decent and controlled manner, it does help , as otherwise if you crawl all over us in corners etc (which you didnt I might add!), then we ( well I do !) make mistakes and that can spoil things for all.
well, that one deserves a nice cold beer and a little R&R.
congrats to the winner and all on the Podium, nice also to see another Blue Moose ahead of me... well done Badblood !!!!

Meant to add, I was a little worried when I grabbed the track the other night & instantly the likes of Mr Hill could get round in 1:12/1:13. eek! Still had some fun laps on the practice server last night (cheers for the run chaps!).
Also, I really did mean to add - I am not one of the race leaders by any means, but thanks to the lapped cars. I'm really not used to being on this side of the deal, but with the exception of one section (which may have just been a misunderstanding), there was plenty (too much maybe?) of track given.
Cheers, Dave.

Good to see another full grid - always makes the racing that much more entrtaining whether you are at the back, middle or front (actually correct that I'm not familiar with the front). Disappointed not to crack the 1.16's which I did in practice yesterday. First couple of laps there was a bit of jostling - but noting to complain about. After that I drove a realtively clean race apart from one minor off - huge effort for 11th place! The Novices is VERY competitive this season. Well done to Dave C for ensuring that Black Night get a slightly respectable point haul. Fabio - stay on track a bit more & we will have lots of points.

Cheers, Dave.

Thanks. I was SUPER careful passing you, Span twice making sure I didn't take your road. Lol. Novices is definitely the right division for me. Frustrating this though as I had the pace to possibly threaten the top five but missed the start due to children demanding attention at the wrong time... couldn't get the screen to come up to start from the pits. Had a TV view of the pit lane. So I pressed Esc - Enter to Retire and lo and behold, there I was in the Pits. I was now a full lap down and set about catching Roberto and Nigel. Then next up was Andy... bang... engine went which was a pity had to reset after the entire field went by so I was nearly 2 laps back. Kept pretty close pace with the leaders despite a couple of spins which dragged me back to the dizzy heights of 14th. No race on day 1. Starting last on day 2. I just hope it gets better! Fun race though. Thanks Dave , was fortunate to finish so high up though the mods might change the results yet , think it may have been you I turned in on T1 lap1
I've not checked it back (yet!) It was Dave, Bernie and I have checked! and Bernie will be getting a telling off but, without giving too much away, I don't think the race result will change. No need for a report.

Didn't see me in your mirrors then? I did see you Paul, but I also could see Tony too.. all the Hondas look the same to me. I didnt really know which one of you it was, although I had some good racing with both of you. congrats to the winner and all on the Podium, nice also to see another Blue Moose ahead of me... well done Badblood !!!!

A couple of questions that came to mind during last nights race
1) Do you ignore blue flags during praccy (which is actually qually)?
2) In the race, top right of screen there's loads of interesting stuff going on. Most usefull for me is the column detailing the distance of cars in front and behind me. I know that a red name is someone coming up to lap me. A light blue name is someone I've passed? But what is the dark green used for?

A great choice of track but one which I found quite difficult to be consistent, in practice I could achieve a decent lap but could not put more than 3 or 4 laps together without going off. I never found a line through T1- 3rd gear ran me wide and 2nd had me nearly buzzing the limiter. Also double droit had me squirming on the entry and spinning on the exit. In the race I started 3rd and I think the car in front ran wide to let me through. I followed Gio for 3 or 4 laps and then went wide just before the bridge letting jonnyo get close. He soon passed me and I followed him for a couple of laps until he span and I was too close to avoid him. A reset and s&g then started my succession of spins and offs. I had a moment with a few laps to go following Geoff into Dd - I was all over trying to slow down and Geoff was getting bigger and bigger until he vanished in front of me but I must have stuffed him off. Sorry Geoff- feel free to put me in front of the stewards. I was glad when I saw the flag- nightmare over. Congratulations to the podium.

The general rule in qually is that .. If you are on a true "fast lap" with a chance of posting a good time ( this means a good time for you and not necessarily about to snatch pole) then you are entitled to take the racing line and keep going. If you are on an "out lap" or "in lap" then please get right out of the way of any other cars, even if it means taking to the grass to allow them clear passing. If you are on a blistering lap and about to smash the world record and come across a car travelling more slowly than you are, remember that the guy in front might be on his "best" lap too and he does NOT have to get out of your way. So, it does take a little tactical application to get enough space ahead of you for a banzai lap, but then of course you may not get any slipstream The green names on prib are for cars that are a lap or more down on you and therefore cars that you should "expect" to yeild the racing line as soon as they safely can. Hope this helps Tony.
