Moderator's Report

Well, no reports would suggest a perfectly clean race without any incidents which is good.

Well, either that or nobody could be arsed reporting them..........

Like our Chief Moderator, this track is not as simple as it looks so did it catch anybody out? Carry on reading to see for sure.

There were 2 examples of drivers taking a SHIFT-R and appearing in front of others.

Where possible you should only do this when you are reasonably sure that the track is clear.

I have not punished either incident here as there were extenuating circumstances but I may well punish them in the future.

Server replay time: 0

Luckily for Karliss, his unsual gearing didn't seem to distract him and he picked up a well earned win, but did he do it at the cost of getting all four wheels off track once too often, and was he the only one to do it?

No, he wasn't:

Jonny has made a bad start and DuFossa gets alongside him.
As they contest T1 DuFossa moves over and hits Jonny starting the mayhem that follows.
DuFossa resets and accelerates quickly towards a visible pile up in front of him.
He aims for a gap but that disappears as part of the pile up ahead and he has nor possible way of avoiding a collision and launches Norm into orbit.
He resets again and continues to the pit lane where he takes his StopnGo incorrectly.
"If a driver makes a pit stop (either mandatory or a S&G due to a Shift-R) but fails to bring the car to rest in the stalls."
He does not take a second StopnGo for his second reset.
DuFossa - Waived 30 seconds

Server replay time: 0h01m10s

RogUK sees JonnyO and DuFossa about to collide at T1 and under braking loses control.
He takes a SHIFT-R but no Stop n Go.

  • roguk (rog uk65) — Did not take a Stop n Go following a SHIFT-R — 30.000 seconds added

Server replay time: 0h01m13s

Norbert is spun by a warp contact and takes a huge risk by resetting immediately. Predictably he gets hit and resets again but does not take a StopnGo for either reset.

Server replay time: 0h01m27s

When Norm re-enters Earth's atmosphere he resets in front of a fast approaching Fran who cannot avoid him.

  • Racing incident

Server replay time: 0h09m03s

DuFossa hits a spinning Fran at Melling Crossing but this time he is more careful and could not reasonably avoid him despite taking the effort to.

  • Racing incident

Server replay time: 0h33m26s

Axel squeezes Fran and should leave him more room.
There is contact but only Axel is affected.

  • Racing incident

Server replay time: 0h38m10s

Nigel Smith recovers from a spin and DuFossa slips past him.
As they approach Country Nigel brakes too late and may not have made the corner had he not hit DuFossa.
Fabio joins them on the grass but when he sees they've forgotten the picnic blanket he continues in disgust.

I often use the "glance" buttons and I can confirm its saved me from hitting another car on 2 or 3 occasions without ever causing me to crash.

Yes, I don't mean that you should use the left/right view buttons while racing someone closely side by side, but that if you used the buttons previous to that (i.e. on a straight before a corner), you can subsequently predict where the other car is going to be.
I will try to follow your suggestion but explain me in wich way you are,and not only you for me, so fast.
Use you the sequential gear?or there is another secret?

His cars have extra large mirrors, so he can fit more cars in them. Sad

Having eight arms must really help and his second head means he can look forwards and backwards at the same time Grin

As "playing" GPL since 1998, I can say I learned more in the last 5 month online racing than the dozen of years before!
Those AIs are so easy to handle, as they are fully predictable...

Yes, of course it depends on how you learn things and in what environment you learn them. I've been spending most of those years running in highly competitive leagues and doing my best to learn setups, lines, car control, car physics and working on my driving skills (first with joystick, then with wheel/pedals), so it's an ongoing process, even today. The most difficult thing is when you pick bad habits and you need to get rid of them. I find that a lot harder than learning new habits. I can guarantee you that the majority of drivers who struggle do so because of bad habits more than anything else.

in my replay i have only one corner cutting at 30:27
first and second episodes, my rear left wheel stays (or one wheel of car allways stays) ON WHITE LINE.
by my understanding shortcut is when all wheels are OUTSIDE white line  completly. like in ice hockey - goal is counted when puck 100% pass line.
white line as i know IS TRACK, not OUTSIDE TRACK.

but whatever.

I'm sure Mike will clarify this but I think the rule is that two wheels need to be on track (white line or not) at all times. Great win by the way!

It's possible the server shows slightly different lines, which is similar to what causes warp I guess, but some incidents were more obvious than others with all 4 wheels off track, and none were punished.

I didn't think it had been done to gain an advantage either.

Hm, that's a very good point - client replays should be used to check for corner cutting, not server side. Perhaps if there's suspicion of repeatable cutting you could ask for the driver's client replay and only use the server replay if they can't provide that.

    Racing incident

For me not understandable! This was a lapping situation!
After following Fran close minimum half a lap, he gave me a little chance to overtake, still covering the inside of the corner Roll Eyes

Please clarify: how much time has a driver to react on blue flags?

I'm usually pissed off if they don't react within a corner.  Cheesy
