Season 40 – 1968 LATE – Round 6 – Virginia International
The sixth round of the ’68 Late series takes across the Atlantic to the United States and the Virginia International Raceway.
There is no handicapping but drivers will have a limited choice of chassis for each round. The cars are divided into 5 groups, each with similar performance level. We start with Group V and work our way up to Group I and then repeat. Group I is the fastest cars available in Formula 1 for 1968.
The car set is Group V. Drivers may use any of the following cars APART FROM THE ONE YOU USED IN RACE 1 AT SANDOWN.
BRM P261 V8 BRM P261 V12 Brabham BT20
Full time drivers can start to practice as soon as the server is available. Reserve drivers can also join as soon as the server becomes available but must leave the server with 35 minutes of qualifying left, for a total of 5 minutes; this will allow any remaining full timers to join. If there is enough space on the grid, the reserve drivers will be able to rejoin when there are 30 mins of qualifying left.
Please read the season 40 general rules on the details.
Please read the specific rules for 68 series on the 1968 Early championship standings page.

ADVICE ON LAPPING. Some of the tracks in this series are short and narrow. The fastest drivers will be lapping backmarkers, perhaps more than once each race. For this year we have posted a multi-language guide to UKGPL rules on the Announcements page. This includes the etiquette for lapping. In summary the lapped car should remain on the racing line and avoid sudden or unexpected movements. To avoid holding up the lapping car the lapped driver can make way where safe to do so or gradually ease off the acceleration on a straight. Extra care should be taken by second or third lapping cars who may be closely following first lapping car. Unlimited number of Shift-Rs are allowed with no need to make Stop & Go. Drivers are reminded that Lap 1 incidents carry an extra 1 place penalty. Only reported incidents will be moderated. Please, excepting emergencies, no chat until Session Completed in qualification. No chat in the race until ALL drivers still racing have crossed the line.

Something has gone wrong with my iGOR settings so I've had to start the race with all cars enabled but please only use the cars in the announcement. Sorry for the confusion.

Apologies for the error starting the server. By the time I had worked out that I had selected 68 Early car set Phil kindly stepped in with a restart. This rather set the tone for a very messy race, requiring 3 resets and a chance to explore most of the off track areas of this rather tricky circuit. Just one minor contact with Bernie when his car threw up a small tornado of dust which acted as a cloaking device for his BRM.

Hmmmm!! It looks like I selected the wrong BRM Sorry guys. I saw BRM V8 on the IGOR list and thought "not that one, it must be the other BRM" so I clicked the next BRM assuming that it had to be the V12, but was what must have been the P126/133. I confess that I was surprised to be able to pull away from the field so easily, but I like to believe that it was less to do with having a faster car and more about my skill as a driver

Too bad I had a big spin uphill the esses and lost contact with Andreas.

Well, now. That turned out to be a bit of fun in only my second run in this series. Some fine battles with Tom early on and especially Fulvio in the latter stages. Even had a sniff at a podium on the last lap as Andreas was within reach but I bungled the Oak Tree on the last lap carving off into the infield. I'm surprised that I didn't get a black flag for that but it was the last lap but in checking the track.ini file, I see that there are no checkpoints there. Still in with a shot, I bungled my braking for the Roller Coaster and spun right in front of Fulvio. Lucky that I didn't collect him. Got it straight to bring the BT20 home in P5. It was fun! TY for hosting this series!
