@bernie
Lee's beta patch that hopefully prevents freezes that are caused by gaps between track segments.

IMO this has to be obligatory for every online race on each clients PC!

Get it here: http://srmz.net/index.php?s=1d55bf5d3d0f891eb7da6c3f35d87a26&showtopic=14247

or
https://www.mediafire.com/file/h96pn9ruvn63sl4/77K_Track_Gap_Freeze_Fix_v.06.zip/file

Put it in GEM/options and activate in GEM like the 60fps Wink

Sorry you had trouble Bernie. The link in the race post above is to the correct track.

As Cookie has posted, please use the no-freeze patch from now on. It seems to help, everyone else managed to finish the race so I assume they all had the patch installed. We had already decided to rerun the race on the Sandown track before the no-freeze patch was released. I would like to run a fun race on Sandown68 to see if the no-freeze patch helps with that track too.

My strange problems with the 65 mod continued in practice. After about 25 minutes I had a CTD. This has happened in the last 3 rounds. Everything was fine off-line but CTD when on-line. I decided it was not the track because it had happened on 3 other tracks and I have installed the no-freeze patch. Anyway a CTD is not the same as a screen freeze. So in desperation I decided to re-install the 65F1 mod and to my relief it seems to have worked, I managed to complete the race.

The race itself started off quite badly. I made 2 or 3 silly errors and found myself in last place. However, once I calmed down and stopped worrying whether or not the reinstall was going to fix my problems, I settled into a steady rhythm and set about catching the pack. It was a very evenly matched field and without a few people spinning out I wouldn't have caught up. Pete was majestic up front and there was no way I was going to catch him but I did manage to claw my way back to second place. I had a mighty tussle with Leo, who I'm pretty sure was faster than me, but he made a mistake with 5 laps to go and gifted me a gap that I managed to defend until the flag.  I saw you going for the inside Leo and I knew you would have to judge it perfectly or you would give me the chance to retake you on the cut-back. As it turned out you went wide and let me off the hook. Great racing.

Definitely a fun track.
I've bitten the bullet and ditched the fancy load cell Fanatec pedals & hooked up the cheapo plastic ones that came with the Thrustmaster wheel. I am just finding them more consistent & don't having to worry about the random callibration issues.

I wasn't especially quick but fast enough to compete - with some.
Martin provided some good entertainment throughout. He was quicker but allowed me to catch up with his alternate racing lines over the kerbs and run off areas.
In the last few laps I was able to find a little more pace (into 1.11's) and catch up to (but not pass) David's Honda.

It was going to be an uphill battle, with a few wins needed, and only 39 laps to have any chance of a Championship.  Things got worse when there developed a terrible noise, to cause much trouble during the race.  Once under way it became clear, I was not firing on all cylinders, and quickly fell to the back of the pack.  I was helped there, when a cliff thew itself under my wheels!  I'd not remembered it being there the previous lap.

Decided to follow Billy awhile, to give warning of hazards such as cliffs and corners.  The noise problem next developed into gearbox trouble.  A boxfull of neutrals, at embarassing moments, and even reverse a couple of times!  Stopped briefly to chat to Billy about it. Sad

Soldiered on, wishing I'd used earplugs, the way F1 drivers generally do.  Some good scrapping from what I recall, while proceeding in fits and starts, to somehow survive to the finish line.  The next time there's a noisy all-night party, I shall complain o the Stewards about it.  Racing is perilous enough already, wthout racing half-asleep because of all that noise! Cheesy

Pete's speed had me overdriving the Brabham and with it came the mistakes. In the end it was a fun event and I even tryed a fancy move over Phil for 2nd position planning to battle with his high top speed honda till the end, but it wasn't my day.  wheelchair

Hope for more of this fun with you guys next season!  yes

Hi All,

Sorry for lateness in getting here. Yep, that was a blast at Sandown. Leo was going to be hard to beat on this track and I was looking forward to some close racing with him. I was sorry to see him slide off the track ahead of me on Lap 1 but I soon had a BRM in my mirrors keeping me busy. Thankfully my setup seemed to stick to the track really well so I could pull away and build up a lead. My tyres kept their cool despite me enjoying sliding the car round T1 on each lap Smiley

This has been a fabulous series and at the start of the year, my rookie goal was to finish it in one piece. A podium was only a dream but to end on the top step seems a little unbelievable. You guys have taught me so much about driving in GPL and I seriously look forward to racing with you again. I now need to plead not to be moved up to Works.

How about making it "each chassis once and no more than twice" for everyone next year? That's what I did and part of the fun has been selecting the best car for each track. Failing that, I'm happy to spend Season 39 in the BT7 just so that I can stay in this category.

See you on the track soon.
