Just installed GPL as the instructions say, ti's working fine. just one thing, how do i stop my G25 wheel from pulling my arm out of the socket as I'm using the gear stick coz using the flappy paddle one just wouldn't be the done thing.

                                                  Thanks Ade.

Sounds like you need to lower the FFB. Undecided

I used to get very strong oscillations with my G25 at rest.  To get round it you need to make sure you install the Logitech profiler and always have the following FF settings enabled by either making them the default settings or having a persistent profile selected.

Global Device:

Overall Effects Strength = 100%
Spring Effect Strength   = 100%
Damper Effect Strength = 100%
Enable Centre Spring     = unchecked
Report Combined Pedals = unchecked
Degrees of rotation       = 200 degrees

Specific GPL Game settings (or could be default)

Use Special FF Device Settings = enabled
Overall Effects Strength          = 80%
Spring Effect Strength            = 10%
Damper Effect Strength          = 10%
Enable Centre Spring              = checked
Centre Spring Strength            = 100%
Use Special Wheel Settings      = unchecked

Then in core.ini

Use these:

force_feedback_damping = 100.000000         ; force feedback damping coefficient
force_feedback_latency = 0.125000          ; force feedback latency (secs)
max_steering_torque = 500.000000           ; steering torque in N*in giving max device

Hope this helps  Smiley

                                              Thanks Ade.

 PS do i have to do anything in the GEM force feedback settings Huh
steering hack                         checked
force feedback                       checked
force feedback latency            125
force feedback damping           100
force feedback max force         500

I just have GEM set to Core.ini Settings.  That way it doesn't matter what you've set in GEM it will be ignored.

BTW to use the G25 shifter in "proper" gated mode (rather than sequential) you'll need to install GPLShift.
Gated shift is very authentic but it makes the cars harder to drive IMO.  I stick to paddles in league races, I'm slow enough as it is!  wheelchair

Gated shift  Cheesy i just cant get the hang of that without using the clutch, the gears seem a bit floppy and easy to pop it in to the wrong gear, with driving a 1973 Land Rover with a gearbox that's like stirring a bucket off coal,  then with driving Sim's with left foot braking i jump on the brake when i want the clutch Shocked don't know how i manage to drive  round on public  roads at times  Grin

Hello again sorry to bother you, what sort of graphics settings would be best for my setup Huh??

                               AMD Athlon 64 X 2 dual core 4200+
                               2 GB of RAM
                               2 X 7600 GT 256 MB SLI

 I'm getting stutter even on 800 X 600 with a 20  car grid.

                                               Thanks  Ade.

Hi

Have a look at bob simpsons FAQ on the RSC site , I'm no expert with computers but would suggest your system is more than adaquate to run GPL at much higher res .

Its highly likely you have could a driver problem . bobs FAQ has a lot of fixes for such problems as yours .

Oh! btw ,  Welcome   Grin

Hello Ade,

This is the RSC FAQ link:

http://forum.racesimcentral.com/showthread.php?t=105748

This has some new rasterizers which help with problems with newer graphics drivers:

http://forum.racesimcentral.com/showthread.php?t=318308

Another solution might be to alter your player text file in the player folder in gpl/players- turning the details to 99 rather than 100 might work:

[ Graphic Options ]
detailBias = 99                            ; Distance at which the game draws in high detail
mirrorDetailLevel = 2                      ; Relative mirror detail level
tracksideOption = 2                        ; Relative number of trackside objects

With 2 SLi cards I'm surprised that you would run 800x600 at all... have you tried customising the resolution?

I have a similar dual-core Althon system (without the fancy SLI graphics cards) and gave up trying to fix this on XP (setting processor affinity made the biggest difference, but I still had the odd stutter). I discovered that running under Vista fixed the stuttering (!), and have since upgraded.

I have seen posts from people who claim that they need to "turn down" the perfomance of their fast new graphics cards in order for GPL to run properly.  I suppose that they complete all the tasks that anyone in 1998 ever thought of and then go for a rest.
