That'll be nice and cosy then  Roll Eyes
I have no problem with the bunching at Curva Grande so long as people take a realistic speed into there and not slow down to a crawl in 2nd or 3rd gear unnecessarily.

This may happen if there's an accident and people have to take avoiding actions. So people in the middle and the back should anticipate such things. But I guess you'd be one of the front runners, Jethro.  Grin

Well, that depends on your interpretation of "reasonable" Roll Eyes

You cannot expect the drivers in front ( or those around you) to take Curve Grande on lap 1 at anything approaching full racing speed Jethro, as everyone will ( or should be!!) in ultra careful, survival mode. With the close proximity of other drivers, many off the racing line, and with full tanks and cold tyres inevitably things will be considerably slower. I am quite expecting to use 2nd gear as I normally take it in 3rd anyway, and I will be like a meerkat on speed, watching both mirrors, monitoring prib ( for cars in my blind spots) and watching ahead for developments.
In fact I do not want to be at the front of the grid for this start ( unless I can guarantee pole, which is unlikely!!) and may actually aim for a low starting position and a very cautious 1st lap before picking up the pace.

Monza lap 1 Curve Grande is notorious for mass extinctions of grids, precisely because just one person decides to blast in there at full speed and a simple warp contact suddenly turns into carnage, as cars are sent in all directions.  Just join a few "pick-up" races and deliberately try and start slowly from the back of the grid. Nine times out of ten you will be one of the 4 cars still running approaching Lesmo 1..!!!!

Plus there is absolutely nothing to be gained by trying a pass at that point on lap 1. The slipstream effect in 66's will drag you up to the cars in front over the next few laps anyway, if you are genuinely fast enough. Better to ensure that all the UKGPL team negotiates Lap 1 intact before going for glory.

I know people will take it easy, but there's "taking it easy" and "slowing to a crawl" taking it easy, which is what has happened in several offline practice races I've done. The minimum speed in CG is 90mph, 100 if the field doesn't bunch too much.

But sage advice I guess is to just engage 2nd and keep it that way.

In one piece we hope,  though more likely the front half will be approaching Lesmo,  while the engine and etc. are still girating madly in Curve Grande.

So whatever bits of Eagle (there "always" Eagles ) you have left now has to get through Lesmo's without further incedent , which is very rare. Grin

Lets face it Monza is a crap choice to sort a needle match between 2 leagues  Cheesy

May I suggest you try a single file starting grid then a warmup lap and rolling start  Cool

OK guys a slight EMERGENCY here !!!

I decided to try and use the Virtual Mirrors for this race. I d/l'd the 66 cars file via the RSC forum and pasted the new 3do files into the 66 Cars folder. However when I then tried to run I got through to the Track info page and then got a message "Cannot load track". Hmm, I then tried the 67 cars and it worked no problem ( with the std mirrors.

Then I deleted my 66 Cars folder and loaded the 66 Mod Ver 1.0 fresh but now I get to the Track info page and get a Windows criticale error message and booted back to my Windows mainpage.  I have reloaded the Mod and the Update twice but am still getting the same problem

HELP !!!!

I don't know about virtual mirrors, mostly because I wisely don't feck with anything on my install before a race.

Have you tried re-installing the track? Delete the folder, install again, hope it refreshes that?

I say "track", as you've re-installed the mod, but the track and the GPL install's the only common link.

Double and triple check your settings in GEM. I've often buggered up my installs when changing carsets and it's usually due to a random change in GEM  Smiley

If not then I'd suggest re-installing the track...

Do the floating mirrors install anything anywhere else? If they have and you didn't delete it then that may be the problem  Smiley

Mike, I had a similar problem.  I only had Monza10K in my 67 season, so I tried to add it to the 66 season using the season editor in GEM but it didn't work, I ended up with GPL not recognizing the track.  So I re-installed using the normal installer and everything was OK again.

Not sure exactly what happened but re-installing the track seemed to sort it.

You'll be lucky to see me coming at all. The likelihood of me being on time for 7pm or 7.30pm for the race is about another hour plus eating time, i.e. zero.

We need a replacement for the BRM, since I won't be racing it in time. Early race start means I'll be eating while you lot charge down to Curva Grande. Anybody want to volunteer their services for this one?

Couldn't get a tow in the second practce so ended up 15th on the grid, having been 5th in the first qually.

Got a good start and made a couple of places, but I shouldn't have bothered !! Banking 2 on Lap 1 saw a huge crash just in front of me, and I got caught by some bouncing cars, Game Over Sad
