Moderator's Report

The final race of the season was a bit of a mixed bag. Some midfield drivers had good races and some good drivers had midfield races.

The slippery surface caught a few out and a lack of practise for others was evident by the spin fest lower down the order.

I think most are ready for the rest that the season end brings, but don't forget the pickup races during the break as many will need to learn to drive new cars next season. ;-)

Attilio uses the tarmac on the outside of the kerbs at the exit of Brewery Bend, sometimes having all four wheels over the kerb and using the extra road as track.

I previously said that this would not be moderated as it was possible that drivers could end up using that piece of road if they made a mistake through Brewery.
Therefore it will go unpunished as the same opportunity was open to all drivers.

Karliss continually cuts the chicane at T1 when the race post clearly (in bright red letters) asks people not to do it.
He does not always seem to gain an advantage and it is sometimes clearly due to a loss of control, but during his battle with Ronnie he seems to do it intentionally, though this backfires when he has to drive through the trees back to the circuit.
Most people cut the chicane at T1 to some degree, but all the incidents below are where Karliss has all 4 wheels off the track.
0h00m54s cuts 2nd part of T1
0h09m10s cuts both parts of T1
0h10m45s cuts 1st part of T1
0h12m25s cuts 2nd part of T1
0h14m00s cuts 2nd part of T1
0h15m44s cuts 2nd part of T1
0h17m20s cuts 2nd part of T1
0h18m58s cuts 2nd part of T1
0h20m35s cuts 2nd part of T1
0h25m25s cuts 2nd part of T1
oh27m00s cuts 2nd part of T1
0h28m35s cuts both parts of T1
0h30m20s cuts 1st part of T1
0h31m58s cuts 2nd part of T1
oh33m33s cuts 2nd part of T1
oh35m11s cuts 1st part of T1
0h36m46s cuts 2nd part of T1
0h38m33s cuts 2nd part of T1

Blito is a little enthusiastic heading into T1 and closes up on Rog before hitting him causing another incident behind for Billy and Norbert.

Server replay time: 0h00m50s

Billy leaves the line and approaching T1 can see a car in the air,
he moves left to avoid a possible contact but moves straight into Norbert spinning them both.
Norbert was visible on the run to T1

Server replay time: 0h02m50s

Nigel spins and rejoins the track on to the racing line.
Fabio avoids him but only just.
Nigel should have been prepared to wait for a bigger gap in the traffic

  • Racing incident

Server replay time: 0h03m10s

Mike goes too wide at Stag and ends up spinning.
Norm takes the same route hoping not to miss out on the new racing line, but unfortunately he hits the spinning Mike.
Fabio sees Norm parked and the magnet in the front of his Ferrari instantly homes in on the metalwork of Norms car sending him skywards

All 3 have to wait for the entire field to pass before resetting
Mike resets at the same time as Fabio and is warped again so resets a second time.
All are deemed free resets.

  • Racing incident

Server replay time: 0h04m00s

Fabio rear ends Fragfritz approaching the Brabham Hairpin.
Fragfritz is new to the division and is not as fast as Fabio, but Fabio is still accelerating when Fragfritz has started braking and seems to take no avoiding action.

Server replay time: 0h10m00s

Martin closes quite quickly on Fragfritz and runs into the back of him.

Fragfritz was not quite at racing speed but Martin should have avoided the collision.

This should have been a Simple Rear End Shunt and would have attracted a 1 place penalty, but I have mitigated the lost place as Fragfritz was so slow and Martin caught him very quickly, but in Fabio's similar incident, he had followed Fragfritz down the whole of the straight.

Server replay time: 0h12m45s

Paul runs wide into the last corner and Billy sees the opportunity to go for the gap.
He had no overlap at turn in but could see Paul running wide.
Paul recovers and accelerates again while turning back towards the racing line where Billy now is.
Both have asked for no penalty to be given.

  • Racing incident

Server replay time: 0h22m35s

Billy predicts a run at the bar after the race, so heads to the beer tent to place his order and ask for it to be put on ice.

After reading what you said, Evil, it reminded me of a funny story from the 1993 Adelaide GP. Senna was just ending his 2 flying laps Qualifying run and his team was on the radio, telling him to pit in on the next lap because he only had fuel for one more lap. The problem was his radio was not working properly, so he kept going while asking on the radio when to come in. It turned out the lap he did was his fastest and enough for pole position, even though he was not actually trying hard anymore!  Cheesy

A similar quote from the late great Jim Clark "when I want to go faster , I dont drive any faster , I just concentrate harder and brake less "

Yeh but he never had to look at Prib to see if he had to move over or not!

If I brake less I just arrive at the hedge that bit quicker - Paradiaolical [sic] being a prime example Wink

That's because it must be added "brake less and turn-in earlier." Wink

Always good to have company at the tail end of the field.  Welcome to the world of the Ditchfinders, aka the FIA crash barrier testers....
Perhaps you`d like to share a little info about yourself and your abilities in GPL in particular.

want to ask to someone, who did test/practice race yesterday.
in replay time 3:43 there is an error with me and blue car, with red swiss helmet (i guess SHIFTER)
if someone have saved replay, can u explain, did i had free Shift+R or stop/go shift+r Huh?
so situation was:
after Brabham hairpin, SHIFTER car further in front of me started to spin and rotate left, i went on right track side to overtake it, and then SHIFTER car just spin right in front of me and we collide.
so when situation is free shift or no. co from my point, i hadnt time to think out, where to run and hit it in right driver side between wheels.

Sounds like it wasn't your fault, so you probably qualify for free shift-r. Look, there aren't clear guidelines which cover every possible situation and which you can follow blindly. It's all down to common sense.

That will spoil the fun. Played GPL just after it came out for a while and then jumped into it again last week. Tweaking the setups seems to be the hardest part for me right now as I am still learning what does what as far as changes go out on the track. I can run pretty consistent laps in the mid to high 40s on this track. What sort of fuel load do we need to carry to get us thru this number of laps?

Welcome onboard Fragfritz - the fast guys think that it is tough at the front but it is MUCH tougher at the back!

Look forward to seeing you on Tuesday.

We are doing a 25 lap race (or some are) so just load it up for about 18 - that is all I ever manage laugh

In a Novice race, you have a free shift/R, if someone makes a problem.   In practice races, we do not have these rules, but try not to be very bad.  I noticed you shift/R sometimes after a spin.  Be careful you do not do this during a big league race, if you make the problem, or 1 time only.  Wink

i know that... my shift+R in practise is a habit since i laping a lone, in online race i know that shift+R is only extra.
but what u mean by this (cant understund)

If a Novice makes a problem and ShiftR's more times, we must stop in the pits more times, and this makes our mechanics angry.

If you shift/R in a race, Karliss, you have to go into the pits for a Stop and Go penalty, if the incident was your fault. If not you can take the Shift/R without any penalty. If you are not sure and you don't take the penalty the Moderator can penalise you after the race. Difficult to judge sometimes.

want to ask to someone, who did test/practice race yesterday.

I watched the replay Karliss, and it wasn't your fault.

Norm had lost control and was in a slide on the left so you went to the right, and normally you would have got past him safely but he had what is called a tankslapper where the car/bike slides one way and then flicks back the other way, so he flicked back just as you were there.

Sometimes things like that just happen in racing and there's nothing you can do about it.

It would have been a no fault SHIFT R in a race.
