As part of preparations for Season 22 we are testing the mighty Interlagos circuit in Sao Paulo, Brazil, home track of the late, great Ayrton Senna. The original layout (1973-1989) will be used in all its five mile, nineteen corner glory - a fitting challenge for the original 67 cars that we will be running.

As with all of our fun races, there will be no moderation, unlimited use of shift-R (with no need to stop and go) and no password. Of course I'm sure we would all appreciate it if everyone drives in the respectful manner we're accustomed to here at UKGPL Smiley

Our friends at GPL Brasil have run this track a number of times, here's a lap with Raoni in the 69 mod to give you a preview; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bi7EH2hsbHU

The Brazilian Grand Prix first used the original layout in 1973, and for the final time in 1980. Short highlights of that race are available here; http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/motorsport/formula_one/9119247.stm well worth a look for the amazing straighline speed of the Renault turbo car whistling

Sergio this is running on a Sunday as it is using the 67 carset which we always run on Sundays. Sorry you can't make it but we are testing Interlagos in tomorrow night's BREASTS races so please join us there.

I didn't like this track much......but after a few laps, and a few more laps....I DID start to enjoy it. Good choice Ross.

Sorry about that Sergio, I think the BBC has rights for the UK only. You're correct, it's blatant racism and the BBC should be sued!! Wink

Thanks for the video links guys - very topical.  Though in this last one, the action has been speeded up by 20% or more, even the commentators voice !  In the digital age, it's hard to know where reality ends, and fantasy begins. Undecided

Reality doesn't end, and fantasy doesn't have beginning, but both fit quite well together...

Thanks for the video... and the track is pretty good I have to admit... especialy compared to Sachsenring.

I watched some videos coming from the 70's and for me Interlagos 73 we use in GPL is much more smooth than the real one. There were a lot of bumps that securely were a real threat for suspension integrity and...what I remember about Interlagos is...it was a tremendous track for most of the cars racing on it. If the surface have been simulated like in the reality it would be something like the straights of Sebring going up and down also along the corners.

GPL can't simulate real bumps so the surface is always perfectly smooth. What we have as "bumps" are actually altitude changes across the whole track width, but that's not very realistic.

I've seen some video from rF2 and it is spectacular compared with our GPL. I hope they will make a 67 mod so we could move from the old GPl to the new rF2 simulating the same things with the same fun but, I think this will remain only a hope.

Tyres wearing, weather changements, bumps and other stuffs make this rF2 fantastic...at least on the paper.

Tyre wear is something often suggested for GPL, but tyres were rarely an issue in 1960's racing.  They were designed to last the length of a race.  It was many years before they became an expected hazard.  Consequently, faster pitstop techniques were also developed - took ages during our era

Bumps had always been an expected hazard.  It was with the start of ground effects, into the 1980's, as cars ran lower, that F1 tracks started to become smoother.

Gave up, couldn't get a good flow going at all tonight and was a hazard to anyone around! lol

Anyway, the server setting seems to be reversed again  Huh 3/132 3/84! I was only getting one car behind which was hard to judge at the start in close battles.

Track was good.  I had one screen freeze in Q, and on about lap 3 I was behind Billy and his car was jumping all over the place; I caught him again later after couple of laps and it was steady.  No idea if that was server or mine/bills connection.  The red bars seems steady.

It is easy to get the settings wrong because we always say 3/132 3/84 but in iGOR you enter the client first so from a hosting point of view it is 3/84 3/132.

Track was fine but quit after 7 because I was motion sick. Shouldn't have pretended to be mini - but he is faster  Grin
