I put some laps in in the weeks before the race using my snetterton set up with adjustments to the top gears and camber and could achieve a lap in the high 26's so I was pleased to repeat this in qualifying although still only got fifth position. The setup I found for snetterton really helped me as before then I could not get the honda to stop and enter the corner facing forwards- for the record it was softening the rear rebound that did it. Anyway- the race- A slow start saw a few pass me into the first bend but I saw trouble ahead and cars sliding at all angles and managed to sneak through, when things quietened down I found myself in third with first and second pulling away from me. I opted for a conservative race as in practice I slid off the track a lot when pushing for a quick time so I was around a second or so off my best but it was much easier to stay on track. I don't know who was second but I think they slid somewhere as I did'nt make a pass in anger all race so for most off the time I just watched the gap to the leader slowly increasing until about 10 or 11 laps to go when my engine blew. A reset and stop and go saw me exit just in front of rog and hendy who both passed me within a few laps but also gave me back the place within a few laps. With 4 to go I short shifted all the way home terrified another engine failure would rob me of a podium- which it did'nt. Well done to Al on his great win.

Yes, I'm somewhat late to the '65 party!
I've not really done any driving in the '65s [or '69s/F2/GT/anything-that-isn't-standard-'67s; not that I know about that either...]. But from the forums, it seemed that everyone is having a good time out there. After joining in the Christmas Santas vs. Elves special last year (eek!), I thought that maybe it would be worth a go.
<ramble> So I have now competed about 39 laps round Mosport in a '65, although admittedly the corners are still in the same place & go the same way. With offline practice of a half-dozen laps in each Honda & Lotus, I was 3secs slower in the Honda (which I was slighty disappointed in - I have a soft spot for them in '67 guise), so Lotus seemed better option. Pre-qually PB was just sub-1:30. I was surprised to get 0.7 off that in qually & somehow got a further 1.1 off that near the end of the race, probably because I was being pulled around.
All in all, these things are fun but I really need guys ahead to run off the track more! There seemed to be quite a lot going on ahead of me, which is how I inherited 4th at one point - before too many offs myself & back down to 10th or so. So, there probably wasn't much actual overtaking (from me anyway). </ramble>
Seems that being precise may be the key. I'm just untidy everywhere, but it sure was a blast!
Thanks for letting me in at short notice. I tried to keep out of the way as much as possible, not that it necessarily panned out like that all the time.
Cheers, Dave.

I was grateful you stuck to that on the last lap... I didn't dare look in the mirrors....

Anyone got any tips for Zandvoort - like Mosport I cannot break 1:30 but unlike Mosport I haven't found a way to do it consistently faster and I am stuck in the low 1:32's. Even Prib is 1:31+ Gearing seems important and I am struggling with that. Tried the Fezza and nearly melted the front left Better than last time though - my best in Season 20 was 1:34.6 - I can do better than that now...

I often go to GPL adddicts for inspiration , Steve Cloyds set ups are as good as any , the gearing is spot on but you might like to change the brake bias more towards the front . After that its all about "line" and yet again corner exit speed escp. out of "tarzan" and the final r/h before the main straight Suggest you D/L and have a butchers at Steves replay to see how its done . If you can get anywhere close to his 1:26 times , I'm gonna burn my wheel and peddles

Probably closer to 26.1 (minutes) I find Steve Cloyds setups almost undriveable but I'll try anything....
