I'm banging away here trying to get the BRM negative. I just seem to be getting slower the more I try. I'll give it a go tonight and see if I can manage to fluke a lap somewhere in the proceedings.

Finished again! After 37 laps on Pro, that feels like victory With the Aliens in BRM's ahead of me, I was realistically looking at a 5th or 6th place finish, and in the end it was 6th. An OK start this time and held my place into T1, past a spinning Ken and nipped past Kruger! He then shredded my nerves over the next 2 laps whilst the Honda was going through it's uncooperative first few laps, and he repassed me into T1. Once the Honda was warmed up, I began to ease away from Clive, but could make no impression on Kruger and plugged away as Glyn caught and passed me recovering from his spin and then I discovered that Ken was only 8 seconds back I was gonna need 15 if I was going to get out of my pitstop ahead of him, pushed hard but couldn't extend the gap and got my stop over with. Came out 4 seconds behind him and as the car got lighter, I was gaining I trimmed off a couple of seconds, but with 2 laps to go I went for 4th gear and put the damn thing into 2nd I was so lucky not to blow it up there and then, eased off and cruised the last laps. The perils of having a shifter Good race and congrats to the podium!

Nice report, Mike, grats. I had a rather uneventful race due to a great handling car and an out of control Neil early on. Qualifying went well and I managed to snatch 1st on the start, but on the next lap he got my slipstream but opted to stay behind going towards T1. The thought that Neil was going too fast ran through my mind for a moment, so I delayed my braking a bit to give him some space and it proved to be decisive - he went off, just missing my rear. Lucky one, for me anyway, I just managed to keep it on the outside edge there and continued on. Either Lorenzo wasn't risking too much or my setup was very consistant, but I could manage to keep the gap back to him and eventually extend it. Not many moments with backmarkers, though I'd like to mention that it's really safer if you don't change lines to let us through but rather keep your own and maybe ease off a bit, at least when it's before a corner or on a straight. Anyway, in the end I saw Neil's Ferrari ahead and I really wanted to lap him. So I pushed very hard, taking unnecessery risks in a way, but I had the belief that my "little" BRM would hold. He was quite fast though and only an off on his behalf made it possible. Grats all finishers!

I had a frustratingly bizarre false start to my first Division 1 race. Joining through VROC I found myself at the unfamiliar controls of a Brabham, rather than my (t)rusty Cooper. Hmm, must be going mad in my old age. So quit, and rejoined making doubly sure I'd selected Coventry as my car: still Brabham. Odd, quit again and had GEM+ rebuild all the exe's, and rejoined to find... a Brabham. Hmmm, tried connecting directly without using VROC and checking the Player Info screen to be sure: Brabham. Getting fed up now, I tried joined the ukGPLpractice server through Igor, and got a Cooper! So, gave it one more try and sure enough still got a bloody Brabham!
Still, with less than ten minutes of qually left I took it out for an cautious exploratory lap. Now, to say that I'm not fond of the Brabham would be a bit of an understatement, and I've never driven it with more than a dozen or so laps of fuel on board. That, combined with my general lack of talent at Kyalami, resulted in me binning it half way round the lap. Three times in a row. At which point I decided that discretion was the better part of valour and abandoned the race. At best it'd have been embarrassing, and more likely I'd have ended up ruining someone else's run.
So, hopefully I'll make my Div1 debut at the next race, assuming my computer decides to co-operate!
cheers, ak

Just to make a comment akamal. VROC uses gpl.exe while iGor uses gplc.exe, so that might point to where the problem lies. Did you join VROC from GEM? I prefer not to do that unless forced to when running Mod races on VROC. When you join VROC from GEM it does some renaming of exe's to overcome the limitation of VROC only to recognise gpl.exe (of course mods weren't invented when VROC was made). When joining a 67 race from VROC I'd normally not go through GEM.

Quite happy with the result actually. I had a nice head to head battle with Brendan, this time in identical chassis. It was an interesting shoutout, one Brendan has won fair and square. I just couldn't get the lap right in qualifying, had all the sectors but never in the same lap. Pribluda showed a flattering 1.20.4 but I even couldn't net a 1.20.8 lap that I had driven just before the race. Got a good start, better than Brendan in fact and I was slipstreaming Ken down the hill and I anaged to go on the inside, leaving a car width to Brendan if he had chosen to go for it - which he did Only later when I checked the replay I noticed that it was actually less than car width but somehow Brendan managed to squeeze his Cooper while I had to back off because Ken held better line into T1. Brendan then went into corner side by side with Ken and even though they both held their lines cleanly, there was an unfortunate warp moment between them. I had to slow down to avoid hitting Ken so I got passed by Mike. We had an interesting battle for next two laps but a mistake into last corner, allowed me to get really close and slipstream accross S/F line and outbrake the heavy Honda. Meanwhile, Brendan made a 2-3 seconds gap and I was off to chase him. In first part, we lapped at very similar pace and there were no changes however, I think I overdrove the poor thing and left tyres started to melt so I started sliping back trying to find different kind of rhythm. Brendan stopped three laps before pit window so I went for it all on those three laps trying desperatelly to make some grounds thinking about the possibility that he may run into traffic. Once I made my stop, the gap seemed to have remained the same. I tried to push from there on but had an oversteery moment in last corner. As Brundle said about Massa's trip up: the ambition got the better of adhesion It looked as though it will be a quiet last third but then I realised Ken was up to something and after my spin, he was 5 seconds behind so I upped my pace and wanted to keep the gap that way. So, having in mind the Alien vs. Predator BRM fight at the front and an excellent Brendan in third, I can't be unhappy about the result. Grats to Hristo, Lorenzo and Brendan. Looking forward to Spa

A decent race yesterday.... Qualification was fine, i did my pb but it wasn't enough to stay ahead of Hristo and Neil.... A few laps after the start i realized that Hristo was definitely faster and gave up a bit to be sure to gain 41 points Grats to Hristo on your win and to Brendan on a well deserved 3rd place....

Enjoyed that one, which I haven't done for a while in D1 (trying too hard last season....). Qualified 9th, finished 9th, can't say fairer than that. Some excitement at the start as Evil's front wheel appears. I quicky realise he doesn't know I'm there, and move out of the way (Honda drivers, pah ). Scooped a few places from the incidents in the opening laps, then lost them when Syd and I come together at T1 (I decided not to resist the pass, tried to keep to the outside line but got a little sideways on entry, then I think he hit the kerb and then into me - warp assisted). I didn't suffer any fatal damage and carried on. Managed to catch Evil later when he spun, then the rest of the race was me vs. him for 8th/9th. Comedy moment as I decided to pit when he closes me down, don't realise he spots my plan (I wanted to use the 1 sec pit stop advantage to get some clear air from that engine) and follows me in. I pull up at the first stall (with no idea he's still behind....focus on that armco, FOCUS!) but Evil's right behind and taps me on the rear. I ended up with more clear air, but my rear suspension was a bit bent (not noticable, but GPLRA says "severe damage" - I guess I was lucky). I then spend the rest of the race trying to preserve the engine, and scurrying out of the way of Alien BRMS. Evil then manages to close me down with 2 laps to go, gets the draft and then a superb pass around the outside of T1 for a well deserved 8th. Shame there wasn't more folk - Easter hols perhaps. I like Spa, but I think I'll be lucky to get into the top 10 in the Coop.

I had a solid start, I think I gained a place or two on the way to t1. But then someone was off between t1 and t2, I had to back off, and lost a few positions. Overtook Steven and was closing down on Chris I think (blue brabham), but then he lost it between t1 and t2 and swiped me off. Went back to almost last. At this point frustration was starting to set in. As I was in a brabham I couldn't really afford any mistakes, and here I was running almost last. Caught up with Steven again. I was on the inside, thought I started braking early enough. I don't know, maybe I locked the wheels, or touched a kerb, don't remember, but I couldn't keep on the inside and pushed Steven off. Sorry about that. I tried to slow down and wait until you repass, but messed that up as well, and spun out just after t2. At his point I was considering retiring, but then the engine mercifully let go and I was sparred more frustration. Bring on Spa.

Had a decent qually with a 1:20.4, just a few 100ths off my PB. The start was a different story, I bogged down off the line and got overtaken by Kruger and Ken. I managed to brake later than Kruger and squeezed down the inside and although the replay shows that our wheels touched slightly no harm was done. On the exit of T1, I tried to keep my distance from Ken but it looks as if warp reared it's ugly head and unfortunately he got pushed off to the outside. Sorry Ken. I was now in 4th and after Neil had chucked his Fezza I was up to 3rd. Over the next few laps I managed to keep within 2-3 seconds of Lorenzo, and the same back to Kruger. Gradually the gap to Lorenzo widened and I managed to pull away ever so slightly from Kruger. After the pitstop the gap was around six seconds and this widened to around 10-11 as the race wore on. Although this seemed a comfortable enough gap, I couldn't relax as I knew that one mistake and Kruger would be through. Anyway, managed to keep it in one piece and was delighted to see the chequered flag. Grats to all who finished and especially to Hristo and Lorenzo who made the rest of us look like mere mortals. See you at Spa. Brendan

I only came across one backmarker in a BRM, which worried me as I had to pass him into T1, which is my least favourite corner in GPL to overtake at. I was a bit further back than I would have liked, but tried to ease up alongside under brakes and made it stay on the inside (which is where I usually go wrong). Thankyou that man for your good awareness

sorry for missing the race guys. I was waiting an hour earlier for the race, then Team Canada was missing a driver for the last race of round 1 for the gpl world cup. I thought I just do a few laps and retire so I could race in ukgpl. But the race turned out being fun so I stuck with it.
