UKGPL Season 16 - Novices and Amateurs - Race 6 - 65 mod - RouenThe Lotus cars are on top of the Amateurs table at present, and Rouen should allow them an opportunity to extend their lead. However, after this the only ultra-fast circuit is the last race at Monza. Should there be enough entries to have two divisions next season the top division will be restructured and there may well be fewer power tracks- and fewer Coopers. The continued absence of Asbjeurn has allowed Sam to build a lead in the Novices, though I'd hope that the top Ferraris would be back soon, and Steve's BT11 may also offer competition. I'm not sure what's happened to Karlisss. Jon has had wheel problems and Tom is also doubtful, though he might be able to return after Xmas. However, there are also a few new faces, and Geoff has asked to join the slower field. I'd expect there to be separate grids at Rouen.
There has been another request for improved aero for the 65s- the RSC thread is here:
http://forum.racesimcentral.com/showthread.php?t=329607While some consider the 66 tow excessive, the slower top speeds of the 65s would reduce this problem to a large extent. Also, the current 65 model isn't that of the original cars as it was impossible to make it work- the crude solution was to increase top speeds 5%. The 65s with tow might be fantastic racing- and of course the existing 65s would still be an option.

The 1965 season was the last to use the controversial 1500cc formula which had begun after 1960, to the initial advantage of Ferrari. The 1965 cars are smaller than the 1967 cars and have less torque and hence more grip. It was claimed that they 'cornered on rails', however this allowed the Grand Prix series to retain the use of circuits which were otherwise to prove extremely dangerous.
The 1965 cars are ideal for those new to GPL as they allow the tracks to be learnt in light reliable cars, however these are also full Formula One cars, and quite fast.... The 1965 French Grand Prix was held at the Clermont-Ferrand circuit, the French GP was next held at Rouen in 1968. I've used Rouen this season because it might be more familiar to beginners, as one of the original tracks. Next season we'll probably use Clermont- it isn't as hard as it might seem at first.
David Wright's 'Legends' site
http://fp.gplegends.plus.com/ has the download of the most recent 2.0.1 version (under 'details') as well as being an exceptional guide to both 1965 and 1967, for those interested in Formula One history.
Unfortunately the current 65 mod download does not have default setups. Default setups for all the cars and tracks that are likely to be used can be downloaded from
http://www.neurology-crew.com/gplserver under '65 setups'. Note that you will have to add enough fuel for the race, whether short or long!
