Season 38 1965F1 – Round 1 – Oulton Park
Season 38 starts at Oulton Park, which is about 30 miles south east of Liverpool and about 30 miles south west of Manchester. This track has never hosted a championship F1 race, but hosted non-championship F1 races most years from the mid-1950s until the early 1970s. Unfortunately, there wasn't an F1 race here in 1965, so there isn't a race to compare with our efforts. Jack Brabham won it in 1966 and 1967. Jim Clark won it in 1962 and 1963. Stirling Moss had the last of his five F1 wins at Oulton Park in 1961. This was notable because it was his last F1 win in Europe. His car that day was also notable as this was the only time that a four wheel drive car won an F1 race. The Ferguson-Climax P99 was a collaboration between two companies possibly better known for tractor manufacture and forklift manufacture.

This is an open series on a spare Tuesday night slot where we can have some fun with the minimum of rules. If the fast drivers want to take the fast cars and disappear into the distance (effectively hot lapping on their own), they are welcome to do that. My preference is for a race long duel where I can swap places with a driver multiple times (I admit I do prefer to come out on top in the end ). In essence my ultimate achievement would be to win the race in the slowest possible car. So given that I love Oulton Park, it is my "local" circuit (where my father used to take me to watch bikes in the early sixties) I'll be doing this round and picking a car to have fun in, maybe a Ferrari?

We are just discussing this on the moderators forum. We may decide to have 2 grids, one for "fast" drivers and one for "regular" drivers.

I made a mistake due to tiredness and to correct it I took the steering wheel to the limit. When reach the limit the steeringw don't work correctly so the rest of the race with the steeringwheel forced to the right.Lost a third position.
