Grats to Hristo for putting on yet another driving clinic. Pole, the win, FTD and lead every one of the 36 laps. And didn't miss out by much in lapping the entire field to boot.
Stoney lucky for me to finish P2. I wouldn't have bet I'd come away from this tough track with that kind of a result. Home advantage?
In Q, I didn't do much but get in a reasonable time not too far off my PB and then just park it. I was confident that the P115 was dialed-in as good as I could make it.
Gross misfortune for Jethro to be bounced late in the session and not make the start. Bad luck there, mate.
Off the start, I did come within an ace of knerfing Tim on the run down to T1 and had to stab the brakes hard to aviod creaming him. Just made it! PHEW! But seconds later, I see he & Sam collide and go hurtling off to my left. I only just missed getting collected. Exiting T1, I had a Clive in the Honda close astern and over the next several laps, fully expected to have him sift by but no, I was able to hang on to P4 and even increase the slight margin. I see from his post above that he again was experiencing controller difficulties. Bad luck there, Evil.
It seems that Clive's gremlins are poles apart from mine in VROC. He complains of steering which is hyper-sensitive. Mine's a dead as a cold fish. If you saved the replay, go to the grid and you'll see what I mean. There, I run the steering wheel from lock to lock and you can still easily see the inside faces of the front wheels. Offline or in iGOR events, if I'd swung the steering wheel over that far, I'd lose sight of the inside face of the rims. This makes for some pretty spirited action in the cockpit, especially at the hairpin!
Clive had an off which left me fairly comfortable in P4 but on L8, I looped it in T1 to hand back all that time and have Clive a threat again. Over the next laps, I again had the fortune to be able to pull away. Things stabilized after that to let me run a solitary P4 but late in the going, Will had the great misfortune to lose the car in T4 and trim a corner off and James, after a fine drive in his P115, came up a litre or two short on petrol to hand me a gift P2 on the last lap. Very bad luck indeed there, James.
I was expecting to see Hristo roar thru to lap me late in the going but noted that he had an off in T8 that delayed him otherwise he would have lapped the field!
I note Vosblod's tips above on entering VROC and will give them a shot next round.
C U then!
