Quite pleased with that result. My qually time was a PB by some considerable margin but way off Hristo's incredible pace. Had a reasonable start for me, lost a couple of places but at least I didn't end up last. I was comfortable with my setup and I tried to drive consistently instead of my usual trick of over doing it and spinning off. It worked and I managed to complete the race without going off (I ran wide in T3 at one stage, I didn't spin but I couldn't get the power down till I got all 4 wheels back on the black stuff. Apart from loosing a bit of momentum - no problem). Steve was on my tail in the early stages but seemed to have a problem and dropped back a bit and my pit board showed a 5 second gap. I settled into what was a boring period in the race from an overtaking point of view because there was no way I was going to catch any of the leaders. The boredom didn't last long though, Steve got his act together and relentlessly closed the gap. I managed to stay cool and not throw it away like I normally do. Crossed the line just a few yards ahead of Steve.
Thanks to FMG for the server, no incidents to report. Didn't see any shunts either so hopefully the moderating workload will be light.
Good points
- Won the opening round of my private battle with Steve (after having been soundly beaten by him last season
)
- Didn't get lapped for the first time ever in an Amateurs race (I think)
Bad Points
- Need to find at least second a lap to be in a position to challenge for a podium
