Grats...yet again!...to Robert on a sterling drive for the win! You're just unstoppable. Anyone here up on voodoo?
Splendid drive from Izzy to capture P2 and set the FTD. Well done, amigo.
Fine job by Roberto to scoop the final podium slot.
Am I reading the championship tables correctly? Evil(Clive)has won by a single point over Marco? WOOOHOOO! Dynamite finish and result for The Blue Moose! And no thanks to me, either. More on that later...
I got a decent lap in qualifying. Not quite a PB but close. Off the line, I got a good launch where Marco, directly ahead, was very slow to get away. I veered right and slipped around him cleanly carving in front of Dean who was also slow to get away and starting his march to the back.
I took up station behind Greg. Lap02 and a mighty shunt between Evil and Piero. Both off with a considerable loss of positions and time. Greg had to lift for this tangle and that allowed me to slip by him on the run down to Hawthorn. Finished the lap in a lofty P5. Well!
Rocket was just up ahead and edging away slightly. Never to fear... If the recent scripts would play out again, I would rob him later.
Greg was right on my tail to start Lap03 but fell off in Paddock to surrender some spots. Marco took up the challenge and hounded my mercilessly for many a lap. He had a couple of stabs at a pass but it just wasn't quite on. I was particularly vulnerable running up the hill from Hawthorn to Westfield as I'd geared the BT23 to make this stretch in just one gear. In fact, I only used gears 2 through 4 once I got rolling off the grid. Ever the lazy one.
Ronnie must have had a few 'moments' as the gap to him was suddenly halved and he was well in sight. I monitored my pit board closely for developments noting the gap to Ronnie ahead and how many laps remained. Marco was back a tick and reduced to a threat rather than a challenge.
Starting Lap09, it looked like Rocket was pulling a gap on me again and Marco was closing fast astern. Lap11 and exiting South Bank to start the run along to Pilgrim's Drop, I was suddenly alone. Marco had disappeared. A sigh of relief...
As I finished the lap and scoped my board, I noted that Ronnie was just five seconds up the road, we were at the half-way point and...and... HUH? What was that? Did... Did I see Evil's name on my board? Nah... Must have been seeing things...
Lap13, Ronnie still five seconds ahead, a Mercaldo shown behind me...yea, I was seeing things...and rounding Druids, a screen freeze with the Cosworth FVA buzzing away to about 23 gajillion revolutions. Swapped over to Windows and killed GPL with Task Manager. A good p5 up the spout.
Only later in checking the posted results and downloading the server replay did I twig to what was really going on behind me. On Lap08, I had no idea whatsoever that Clive had passed Marco to take over p6 directly behind me. All I saw was this green car dancing about in my mirrors and giving me a hard time. Finishing one lap, I saw this green car pasted all over my tail but it went wide onto the grass verge on the left and fell back. A green Brabham with a gold stripe looks pretty much like a green Matra with a blue stripe at speed. If I'd only known, I would have gladly pulled aside for Clive, our defacto leader of The Blue Moose. I'm so relieved to learn that he recovered to place well enough to capture the F2 crown. PHEW!
