Malcom, i blew the engine here too. Since i blow it perhaps once a year in 67's i guess it may have something to do with the track. Too many violent sideways accelerations where tires lose traction and revs rise sharply?

Also, i had a bit too short 5th gear and i was on the limiter for a few secs every lap. Still, don't think that would be a reason itself.

There is a "random" factor within GPL that will give you an engine failure for no other reason than sheer bad luck. Rare, but it does happen. Naturally ALL of my engine failures are a result of bad luck, not bad driving  Wink Roll Eyes

The most common reason for damaging engines in GPL is not when you are accelerating ( unless you consistantly speedshift without lifting between gears), but downshifting too early. I would suggest that you take a look at your replay, from the cockpit view, and watch that red pointy thing as you brake and downshift for corners. If you see that needle banging on the limiter then that is the cause of your engine failure. In simple terms, GPL simply registers the number of times that you exceed the max rev limit and it does not matter when or where that happens

You might need to try braking at the same point in future, but delay the downshifts by 0.5 secs so that the overrun from the engine does not force the revs too high. If you watch Beefpie's race, his downshifts at the end of the long sweep are all done at the last possible second. I am not sure if he uses paddles or a gear shift but he drops through those gears very swiftly with no load on the engine.

I do use a shifter so I almost invariably skip down the gears (sometimes up too if I'm accelerating down a steep hill), in the case of this track I was going from 5th directly to 2nd at the end of the long sweep, shifting the gear lever right across the gate from one corner to another. If you get your heel and toe sorted and match your revs with the speed of the rear wheels properly it saves a lot of time and effort, but as said above you have to leave the shifting until just before turn in or its easy to over rev your engine or lock your rear tyres. At the same time you want to make sure you're off the clutch by the time you start turning in.

Incidentally I fluffed a shift in this very race, hence why I ended up spinning at about quarter distance, luckily just about missing the wall, it happens sometimes.

Thanks as always for racing and organising. Smiley

.
I know that with my set up that if I hauled out of the Clarke Chicane my inside rear would bust free temporarily so I adjusted my exit slightly and the problem went away.
Could any of you please give information to sort this problem out?

In future Malcolm, try fitting an extra clutch to your Diff. More preload on the diff delays the point when the inside wheel will break loose and spin. May require other changes though, as it can make understeer worse. Try it and see what happens.
Geoff.
