just got back into gpl and trying to setup a connection so me and a mate can have a spin round the track.

problem is when we try and host the other person is getting a "timed out connection" message.

tried via gpl multiplayer, igor and vroc, all give the same message.

tried doing the open ports thing but doesnt appeared to have helped.

its been a while so i've forgotten or the little tricks and things to get things going.

any help would be appreciated  Grin

When you are hosting a local race are you de-selecting the 'Enforce latency' on page 2 (Security) iirc? That can screw you. Feel free to hop on to UKGPL3 to ensure that you can both connect OK. (65 mod tho)

Mark,

By default this is on (I think). It will screw you....

Check the second page - Network/Server.

An example is here. You will probably want to disable checkpoints as well.

Are you and your friend on the same ISP? Some of my friends can't connect to me because our ISPs are blocking each other, lol. In any case, sounds more like a problem with firewall or something, since you're able to connect fine to other servers.

We got it working. It was the win7 firewall. It wasn't set to let gpl and igor to public on the firewall settings.

A nice blat round glen and monza ensued Smiley
