Moderator's Report
There were no reported incidents for this race but the rolling start certainly did not go quite to plan.
I was under the impression that everyone knew that racing started on the exit of the last corner and not as we cross the S/F line. Pole sitter Doni, who was leading the rolling lap waited until the S/F line and this caused a "log jam" effect behind as cars suddenly found a rolling road block in front of them. Most cars survived but 3 cars either went off, reset or quit.
In Doni's defence I had not made it absolutely clear in the Race Announcement where racing started. The term "last corner" could have referred to the right hand curve just before the S/F line. In future race posts I will try and make it crystal clear which corner is to be considered as the Last Corner.
Once we had got the race under way it seems that Imola provided some first class racing. Doni and his Fezza holding off a trio of Lolas for lap after lap. Samb made a single error and dropped back to 4th, but that seems only to have turned on the red mist function in his car and he was unlucky not to have made it to the top spot on the podium. Juha took advantage of Doni's single error with a strange loss of control on the S/F straight after about 20 laps, to snatch his one chance of taking the lead that he managed to defend over the last 10 laps from Samb.
Watching the replay there were some great battles right down through the field. Tim (FMG) fought a race long duel with Mark..Porsche vs Ford. Alex B hounded Evil for all of the race and I was lucky to survive a few dumb mistakes to creep across the line in 3rd.
Watching the replay it was good to see that, generally, all cars that were being lapped gave the leaders a clear track to continue the battle. It would have been very unfair if this race had been decided by any sort of incident.
