I'd like to try to join in on this event if possible.

Of course, if the server fills, then I'll leave, as I've not raced in previous rounds of this series.

I joined the server earlier on, and ran a few laps, so if it's ok, i'll have a look on the server later, and see how the numbers are.

If this isn't possible, then just let me know.

You are most welcome to join us Ross. You might want to check out our Novice 65's if you fancy some racing before the end of our season. We have two races coming up at the end of April and start of May. Good luck tonight.

I was looking forward to this but gosh, I found it hard. I like Albi but concentration was an issue. I got a great start but then lost it on the back straight avoiding a crash. Had to stop as the car was vibrating badly and then the bloody thing wouldn't let me reset... <sigh> caught and passed Nigel though and held Bernie off for a lap or two until it went all wrong.

Too much modding and not enough practice. Putting GPL away for three days now while we go for a break.

Sorry to Cookie who I biffed as he passed me. I was half asleep - sorry mate.

A bit of a mixed bag for me this one....
I got an OK start and slotted into my place in the Armand Snake and took it fairly cautious over the first lap which helped me avoid a couple of spinners and move up a few places... in fact after a few I was 3rd!! Cookie was able to pull away from me with no trouble so I was just content to cruise... that was until we came across Bernie rejoining on the exit of Parc..... I *thought* he was gonna stay out wide and so aimed my Matra at the gap on his left, only for him to slowly move across and shut the door! I tried to avoid him... and succeeded!!! Pity about totalling the MS7 against the outer barrier Sad
S+R x stop + go = 7th
And here I am defending against Geoff.... and he was pushing me hard.... and I was defending hard... eventually we touched and I was left looking backwards at DD.. rejoined in 8th but now with Goran pushing me hard... again I made the MS7 as wide as I could  but again my efforts were wasted when there was contact..... and another blue car gets written off!
Now I'm well down the order and the red mist has truly descended into the blue cockpit and I went about tearing up the black stuff  to the best of my abilities, setting a best of 1:13.83 whilst chasing down new boy Ross Hawkey. A good battle there... I passed Rainier pretty easy too and was lucky that JonnyO was taking a stop+go, giving me 5th at the flag.
On the whole, I was maybe a bit too aggressive this time but othwerwise I am loving this car, this mod, this series...

good racing , i didnt see much of evil as he disappeared very soon after i collided with Natan, not sure how that incident happened at hairpin, must to check it from replay ?   Cookie was front of me but i soon was able to catch him, that was some racing cookie even i did few mistakes in front of you.

grats Evil !  very fast

60fps was working great !  Grin

Edit i checked replay,   Natan you changed line while braking into hairpin ,same time i was beside = crash !

Well what can I say Roll Eyes I kind of feel embarrassed about the speed I seemed to have at Albi, but as I understand it these F2's are almost identical in performance with the Matras being the best.??

I think I have just found the sweet spot in the setup for the Lola?? Grin Geoff helped me to a ridiculous time for pole with a nice tow, but i expected to get swamped on the run into DD as the other fast cars used the tow. Instead only Bob stuck it up the inside and then he misjudged his braking and ran wide. I had to tiptoe around the outside hoping that he would not involve me in his spins and Natan took the opportuinity to sneak through. But I was still in 2nd!! which was a surprise.
The next lap I used the draft and passed Natan at DD to retake the lead. Fortunately for me Natan's battle with Juha slowed them both whilst I eased away until I think they made contact and suddenly I had 6-7 secs lead and could settle into some fast steady laps to pull away.
After that it was just a case of monitoring the gap and my fuel and choosing where to pass backmarkers without any pressure..thanks guys everyone was a gentleman and behaved perfectly  Wink
I was tempted to go for a super fast lap towards the end but resisted the temptation because you can bet I would have binned the car somewhere if I had!!
Bathurst will be different I know. It is a track that I like, but it does not seem to like me!!! always make a dumb mistake somewhere and dismantle my car against the scenery Undecided

Thanks for the fun guys and grats to all finishers.

For me and my driving style the Lola just sticks like a half chewed toffee to your T shirt and is just soooo predictable and stable that I can brake later than I think is safe and still get it safely into the corner. Then I can stand on the gas and it just sticks with a hint of power oversteer and rockets off down the next straight!!

Rear tyre temps never get anywhere near hot and the fronts stay cold.
Oil temp is around 190F

Nothing seems to work hard, certainly not me and the thing just goes like ******

Oh and it even has an arrow on the bonnet to make sure you keep it pointed in the right direction  Grin Grin Grin

The 60 fps was ok except i often saw 36-40 fps in this race and never above 50 fps. no flickering or problems, just NOT 60fps?

Yeah was great fun!

After my bad start I did some constant laps gaining 4th place and then second.
Juha came from behind doing some really hot laps. But after his pass he could not pull away Wink
A cramp in my right foot made me a little handicapped...
So I got a pretty save 3rd until I looked for my fuel and had 3 liters left for 3 laps with Nathan 8 seconds behind me Shocked
With 0,2 liter left I crossed the line just before Nathan  Grin

Thanks for that, It'd be great if I can get involved in a couple more events, just to get in the swing of the format etc, before another season starts.

Ended up more mid-grid than I wanted really. In hindsight, I'd have maybe been better to sit out the qual session, to start safely at the back, given the fact I'd not race GPL online for many years.

Despite the mid grid start, T1 and T2 all seemed to go really well, then there were the shenanigans on the back straight, which were a shame. I thought I'd got through it, but didn't quite manage it.   Wasn't sure on what Damage may have been done, so Shift-R'd and stop/go'd to be safe, and came out in P15.

After that, had a steady run, knocking in 1m14's most of the way.  Had a decent run with a couple of cars, and had Jason catch and pass me. I was able to stay just about in touch, and after a few ahead had troubles, I ended up with a steady finish.

Thanks for the place on the grid, and the organisation.  I hope to get back on the grid again shortly.

Good to have you race with us Ross....Was most impressed with the calmness with which you tucked inside to repass me after my first bungled attempt to blow you away!  Don't forget the 4th race in this F2 series is on friday night and will be at Bathurst.
You are most welcome to sign up to the "novices" league for the last two races of the series. Those races use the 1965 mod which is pretty similar to drive to the F2s we used tonight. Your apparent pace should put you right in the thick of the action.  Should be a couple of good races Smiley

Eventful race this one. Qualified 7th with a PB, but should have got a share of Evil's cracking pole time as I WAS involved... laugh I think that's 2 drafts you owe me now Clive.
Got a good start and overtook Axel before T1, keeping the leading pack close handy down the long straight to DD. The pack closed up through Double Droit, allowing me to creep even closer for the drag race up to Parc. Ahead Goran had a bumping duel with someone that knocked them both back off the pace and allowed me to sneak though at the kink. But Goran must have forgotten about other cars being on the track and turned in on top of me putting us both off into the railing. Got going again without the need for a reset and as I was getting up to pace again some more bumper car action was happening in front. I had stuck to the left hand side of the track and slowed slightly until a gap in the carnage appeared in front....then whack.....Bernie cleaned me up heading for the same gap.
Going again...no reset required and car still straight....miracle. Started to find a groove and was laying down consistent mid-low 14's and catching the JonnyO-Dave Rainier-Jason Blito group about 15 secs ahead. Jason dropped out of the group with a spin somewhere, I quickly caught him and challenged down the outside into DD. I held my side of the track on the wide line, but poor Jason didn't manage to hold his....he drifted across at the apex and clipped me, spinning him left across my nose and into the barrier. Set off again in pursuit of the rest of the group in front, picking them up at around 1/2 second a lap....when with 24 to go.... eek  screen freeze. End of story....good night nurse.
Good race while it lasted, enjoyed the close racing most of the time. Congrats Evil on a dominant win, also the remaining podium places. thanks Cookie for hosting a fun series.
And last but not least, welcome to UKGPL Ross Hawkey.
Geoff.

Smiley congratulations to Clive , Bob and Natan !!

well my race was an short one : got an perfect start , did had lotta luck in staying free from a group of chrashing cars in front somewhere during lap1 . Turned out P6 and was able to follow Rainier I guess beeing on P5 .

Then screen freeze  Shocked exit via task manager ...
as this was the 2nd time I got these screen freeze since I used my upgraded PC with Win7 64bit , I am pretty sure something is odd with my hardware and/or windows .
Unfortunately I am absolutely unfamilar with Win7 so far , even dont know where to find bug reports , if there are any .
Anyone around using Win 7 ? help would be highly appreciated  !! Cheesy

Thanks for the invite.  Not sure if I can make Friday, but I'll hope to get involved in some more Tuesday events as and when I can.

The re-pass sadly I can't lay claim to.  I believe that was Dave Rainier.   You'd passed me a lap or so before, and as you'd steadily closed the gap to me in the preceding laps, there seemed little point in defending it too much (Had it been the last lap or so maybe I would have :-) ).

I have the '65 mod installed, so as and when I see a server up, I'll have a go at joining to make sure I've the necessary files etc.
