This track needs to go on the suspect list.....A screen freeze in practice on UKGPL8.....and not even completed 1 flying lap of the race before another freeze on T7.....Says the track is suss to me.

I was behind you on the warm up lap Tim and you were bouncing about like a kangaroo.  Geoff would have been impressed LOL.

The race was much better than I expected.  I found the track really tough in the Mirage, but I did enjoy blasting past Hristo's porker in the early laps.  I clipped a haybale on the fast right hander and I ended up spinning round all the way up the straight but amazingly I didn't need a shift R.  After that I did my stop and when I came out of the pits everyone was long gone.  There was no pit board to identify my pit box so I had to spin up the rear tyres a couple of times during my 54 second stop.

They were a bit tardy appearing Phil when I did a practice stop on the Praccy sever....bad luck if you were in an early pit slot.

Unlucky race for me. I made a little 360 just before the banked part of the track at "chicane nord", going back from 1st to 3rd place but I regained the 1st place the next lap when had a contact with my teammate Axel at "virage de la ferme" that made me sit on the hay bales. I had to reset for this reason loosing a lot of time that kept me away from a possible final battle for the 1st place. I raced from the 7th place up to the 3rd place caught at penultimate lap and I finished just a few tenth of second from the 2nd place in a photo finish sprint with evilclive!
No problems with wait time and pit board but I've got a few freezes and if they were happened when I was in a difficult pass, I would have gone out of track.

That's odd, I've had many races on it through the years and it was never a problem, and I don't mean just on my end, but in general for everyone.

Unexpected victory for me, because I haven't practiced at all, had no setup and decided to take the Porsche with about 15 minutes left in Qualifying on the server when I saw that it requires no pitstops. I thought "it should be fast around here, despite the long straights" and it turned out to be the case.

I forgot to check about the rolling zone and wasn't sure if we're doing a full rolling lap or not, and nobody answered my question, so I tried to stay close to the car in front of me, but was kinda disappointed that everyone was so spread out at the end of the pace lap when the race obviously started. It became obvious I was lacking a lot of speed on the straight, but after working on my gearing in Qualifying, I could just about slipstream without worrying for the engine, though it was going into the red line.

Gained a couple of positions quickly after other people's mistakes, then it took 2 laps until I finally managed to clear off Phil who was holding me up in the slow bits, but when those in front of him made mistakes as well, I was suddenly going in 2nd place, with the leader (Axel or Sergio, not sure at the time) just in front! One particularly exciting moment prior to that was when I had a run on Doni, and Phil had a run on both of us, so we were heading 3-wide towards the tank trap, but I risked a bit more and braked later, which put me in front of them for the twisty bit and I was able to escape from their clutches there.

So just after taking 2nd place, I totally disregarded the solid hay bale on the exit of T1 (or is it T2 or T3 lol), the fast right, and by the time I saw I was going towards it, it was too late to change direction sufficiently to avoid contact. A spin at high speed, over the grass, but fortunately ended up on the track and pointing in the right direction. I was passed by 3-4 cars though, so once again I had to engage in the battle with Phil's flying Mirage.

This time it was Phil's turn to hit the dreadful hay bale, but at least he has the excuse of that corner not being completely flat out in his car, while it is barely a corner in the Porsche!  Roll Eyes

Eventually the pit stops came around and I found myself chasing Axel who was some 9 seconds ahead, and I managed to reduce the gap to 7 seconds before his stop. After that it was quite comfortable, with everyone so far back, but I kept pushing because I wanted to see what lap time I could do in the Porsche. A couple of 1:36s goes to show that perhaps the pit stop lengths were way too long for the other cars.

Finished first, then watched Evil fighting to keep his 2nd place and it was entertaining to see him needling that lump of stone on wheels through the last chicane, then just managing to hold on to 2nd place.  Grin Grats!  Wink

I really enjoy this track, so I hope we race at it again in the future in one of the divisions, preferably in open wheelers though.

I'm beginning to think the wait times are completely wrong. At Surfers Paradise they were wrong and here at Montlhery they were as well.
I may figure out to be back or forth around 5 secs but when the gap is 50 secs or around it, there is something that went bad in calculation.

Let's make some calculations:

I made the RBL in 2:33.64
Hristo made his BL in 2:36.12

The race lenght was 14 laps with 1 pace lap so 13 laps of effective race, then at  least theoretically I could have done 2:33.64 x 13 = 33:17.33
while Hristo he could have done 2:36.12 x 13 = 33:49.56
that means 33:49.56 - 33:17.33 = 32.23 secs gap (at max performances)
that means, excluding 6 secs for Pit In and 6 secs for Pit Out (12 secs) 32.23 -12 = 20.23 !!! and this should have been the wait time for a Chap 2D.
Instead the wait time was 48 secs, more than twice what it should have been !!!
I could expect a value -20% <= x <= +20% but not 200% more.
The time a car loses for Pit In and Pit Out has also to be taken in count when there are cars that don't stop.

Yeah, I agree, the pit stop times for some cars at most tracks this season have been very wrong. I wonder if it's been intentional so the championship is spiced up, since drivers in each team can't take the same car and this is mainly a team championship?

The problem I have had in setting pitstop times is getting hold of accurate lap time data.

Before this race, the best lap times that I could find for the GT's were a lot slower than everyone achieved last night.

You would be surprised how few circuits there are on GPL Rank with a full set of competitive lap times. The best times that I have are usually from races that we have run in UKGPL.

So, yes the evidence last night suggests that the time for the Chap 2D was too long, or the Porsche should have been given a 20 second stop as well?  Which would have put Hristo, Sergio and myself very close at the finish......I was 2/3rds correct  Roll Eyes. Don't forget that pitstops assume that you have an incident free race and do not lose any time parked in haybales.

Each race we have gives me more data to work with, but I cannot use the times from Spa when you are working out the pitstops for Surfers Paradise.

If the stop times are wrong, it is not really that unfair, as everybody can test their speed and decide which car offers the best chance of success.  They will be much more accurate if we race at Montlhery again in GT's.

For every race I usually try 2 or 3 cars before deciding which I think is best for me.  I never even tried the Porsche as I thought that it would be at a huge disadvantage on those long straights.... Hrsito proved my assumptions wrong, but I suspect that even he did not expect to win by such a margin.

I didn't expect to win, though I suspected the car should be fast enough to be a challenger without making any pitstops. Considering the errors I made and especially my big spin, and being stuck behind some cars losing time as well, I still won by too much of a margin. Then again, others didn't have a clean run either, so it's difficult to judge the difference in pace by the finishing results, and unnecessary. Lap times seem sufficient enough, although preferably you would want to look at lap times done by the same person, applying the same effort and driving them on the limit. Even then, some cars suit one driving style, some suit another, so it can never be perfect.

Am I right in thinking that Geoff drove for Hiki Waza last night? If so, I will need to reassign all the Hiki Waza points to Hiki Waza GT. Otherwise Clark-Hill will mysteriously enter the championship...

Cheers,

P.

Yes, a lack of data lead to a inaccurate forecast, it is simple to believe in this reason In another thd, I've suggested to open a race event announcement immediately after the one just finished, leaving so to each driver, the chance to try several cars suited for qualify, and having the time to post faster lap times on the site, so the manager may have a simpler work during wait times assignments.
