it runs fin 99% of the time, but it only take 1% to ruin a race. when the flag drops i get 1fps for the first 3 seconds and every so often it drops to 1 fps or stalls for a few seconds.

I think my hardware is in a different league of oldness.
AMD sempron 3gig with 1.5gig ram and a ATI radion 1150. i think a newer card would help Roll Eyes. installing everything on a new machine would be ahugh pain in th ass. Undecided

Gareth, that is not a PC mate. You might consider upgrading to an abacus  laugh laugh laugh

Not at all. You can copy your whole GPL directory over, just install GEM+/iGOR fresh, and you're good to go. All the tracks, cars, mods, etc. do not require re-installation.

My GPL install is from 2002 (maybe older?) when I had a K6-3/400, Voodoo Banshee, on Win98. It's been imported whole to new hardware (doing the math...) 4 times since.

Ive been waiting for people to figure out 60fps for years. This is the lamest load of you know what I have seen. This is one of the big reasons GPL is just about completely dead. Thanks for nothing, to all who try to keep gpl back in the stone ages. Stop doing drugs, or drinking, or stop feeding your kids for a week, and upgrade your pc.

Maybe you would like to repeat your statments to me in chat here. Please do. Typical yank, cant have a conversation without resorting to verbal abuse. stupid It never ceases to amaze me what the protection of sitting behind a monitor and keyboard does for some peoples sense of proprietary and nerve.

No irony there.

I think someone needs to smoke some drugs and relax a bit Tongue

As for the 60fps. When it came up we had a test race and at the start I had problems with low fps(most of us had that problem).

Maybe I don't have the strongest PC, but it's good enough to run modern sims(iRacing/rf/rf2) with no problems That's why I personally prefer to have stable 36fps rather than unstable 60.

Shame, I broke my rig again, braking into Maison Blanche...
I suddenly had  my wheel with the little table in my hands Angry
It was flexible before and I had made it much stiffer, so it broke!

Great fun with Phil as long as it lasted

Didn't last much longer Axel.  I crashed when my frame rate fell when you left (chat still hammers my frame rate).  Had to do a SR and S&G which allowed Dean to catch and pass me.  Two more SRs and S&Gs later I got a screen freeze  Sad

Good fun while it lasted.  These CanAms are very fast!!!

It was shaping up to be a lot of fun, until I snookered myself behind the opposition, at Mulsanne corner. Stopped just short of the sand trap, and was lucky not to get potted, but then got stuck in neutral !  And soon thereafter learned life can be short, when driving these things when annoyed! taz

Well done at having a stab at identifying irony anyway, maybe not using Alanis Morissette's definition. I see your also having a go at sarcasm  Grin

JA DOES have a point, regardless of how he expressed himself and who it offended. It's been what, 2 years now, since 60 fps patch has been around? Perhaps a division running 60fps would bring in more people to UKGPL. There are more than enough divisions running without 60 fps for those who can't run it yet.

I am not too worried if we want to run some 60fps on Friday but it won't happen in the Tuesday and Sunday slots. Perhaps if we have some strong 60 fps races we can see what the results are and then take a vote as Season's end. Have to say though that it does absolutely nothing for me in terms of gameplay or my view of it but I don't get frame drop either...

The big advantage that I've found is that minor collisions are much less violent affairs. AFAIK the physics engine in GPL determines the severity of it's reaction to contact from the amount overlap in the collision boxes between frames. If this is being checked every 60th of a second instead of every 36th, there's much less time for overlap to develop. I've even bump-drafted in 69 cars at Monza (intentionally!) (on a low-lag server, mind) with neither car being launched into orbit.

Gameplay, for me it's pretty even, 60 having a _slight_ edge on smoothness.

I'll play either, but would prefer 60 solely for the reason that anything that makes online contact less of a race-ending lottery is a good thing.

Agreed, he does have a point and Deans point about collision boxes seems logical, maybe to some there is a destinct difference in game play but without the fps indicator on I cannot tell the difference other than my fps stalling whenever it bleeding feels like it. Going back through everyones posts here im not sure how popular 60 fps is anyway.
