Walter - John's advice is usually spot on. If you are stiil having problems it might be the settings in your cotre.ini file. I will have a look at mine when I get home & send you a PM.

...EDIT: I just ran the Bandwidth Patch, and found that the option for cars behind was not selected. I ran the patch again to make sure that one and two are applied. I'll try to test it and report back...

The "Cars Behind" option should NOT be selected, ensure that you have edited your core.ini exactly as instructed in bwpatch readme, and re-run GEM+ to rebuild the .exe's that iGOR uses (as JR says, the bwpatch only works on gpl.exe, GEM+ will use the patched gpl.exe to rebuild the rest).

Handy utility here: http://srmz.net/index.php?showtopic=2468, easy to see if bwpatch has been applied properly.

I always use the 65lite carset for online racing.  Many racers don't, though it looks Ok, and might help you to survive the rocks.  euro You can switch easily enough in GEM.

I tried to join last night and received a bandwith mismatch error. This is not the first time for me to get this error. I looked it up on SRMZ just now, and it says that, "GPL reports a Bandwidth mismatch error when the server is sending more data than your GPL expects.
:hat-tip:

  DO the following if you haven't:
 1)Install a core.ini file in your gpl folder(find out who's got the 'hot' core ini nowadays,i still run alisons).
 2)Download,and install the bandwith patch.(alters some lines in your new 'core.ini'.
 This is what i did in 1999." (http://srmz.net/index.php?showtopic=6523&hl=+bandwith%20+mismatch%20+error#entry62128)

Any advice is welcome, should I do a fresh install? Thanks, Walt

EDIT: I just ran the Bandwidth Patch, and found that the option for cars behind was not selected. I ran the patch again to make sure that one and two are applied. I'll try to test it and report back.
ReEdit: The problem is not solved. I received the Bandwith Mismatch error while trying to join the GPL Brasil server.   sweatdrop I think I'll try installing a second copy of GPL to see if I get the same error.

The important bit of the core ini is this:

net_mdm_client_send_every = 3                ; Client packet freq on dialup
net_mdm_client_send_size = 84                ; Client packet size on dialup
net_mdm_server_send_every = 3                 ; Server packet freq on dialup
net_mdm_server_send_size = 384               ; Server packet size on dialup
net_server_port=0                             ; Server port number (0 = default)
net_use_mdm_bandwidth_for_tcp_ip=1            ; Use modem bandwidthfor TCP/IP - 1 = Use net_mdm_ settings *
;net_use_mdm_bandwidth_for_tcp_ip=0            ; Use modem bandwidthfor IPX    - 0 = Use net_lan_ settings

The server should actually over ride your settings but make sure you are using ...tcp_ip=1 (highlighted in red). Note that the ';' semi colon is a comment marker, anything after a semi-colon can be ignored (hence the ...tcp_ip=0 line is ignored.

There is a sample core.ini here

Hope that helps. UKGPL3 is up for practice with actual settings so try that.

Ok - maybe not the right track for a debut. Far too slow. And terrible ringing sounds which made it difficult to concentrate.

Have to work on it.

Sorry to the guy I bumped in the tunnel in lap 1.

That was me mate but you were unsighted...

Terrible race. My best here is 1:30 - this race 1:35 - Sad  Awesome start and then a bit slow to the tunnel and didn't expect Ivan to pass there. Moved across and took his wheel off. Sorry Ivan.

Then got a bump and the car was AWFUL. Reset and lost it totally - sliding into the sides, no rhythm at all. Gave up after my FIFTH spin. Dreadful. Shouldn't have tempted fate but I think the Novices need something hard occasionally! Might drop Dundrod though.

See you all after the summer.

Fantastic Race! Thank you to everyone that helped me fix the Bandwidth error. I really did not know if it would work until the last minute. I'm sorry to W. Tony for wrecking in front of you in the practice session. The race went great, and I'm really looking forward to the next one. Thanks, WC

What a great race. Al and JP were on my exhaust pipes all race...well JP was, shame about Al's accident. I had frequent but intermittent lag issues which was distracting. After Al crashed I had a decent gap to John, but he made short work of it, and harassed me the whole race. If it hadn't been Monaco I'm not sure I could have held out. Was really interesting to see that we were stronger in different parts of the circuit, which helped me too. If only Dave R hadn't had a moment after he caught John he might have taken the heat off me.....

Doubt that I will make the next race, so happy hols and I'll see you at the one after.

Well that went better than I had dared dream for. Actually finished albeit a few laps down. Wasn't incident free as I had loads of spins which required carefull 3 point turn recovery's. Plus making sure I didn't impede lappers lost me loads of time too but like I say, at least I finished. Looking forward to an easier outing next time.
BTW nice to see five GTL'ers in the results last night.

P.S. Great to see you on track Kurt, but what a place to make your debut  Shocked  Don't worry, the speed will come. That's what they keep telling me  Wink

Congrats to Arf, Johnny and Rainer, good race guys and a very quick pace.

Was a little disappointed in qualifying, I just could not get a series of clear laps. I find in Monaco that I need a series of laps to really nail a good time and although I did managed 2 or 3 clear laps I always ended up catching traffic on my quick ones. I did end up second on the grid.

I got a OK start, and kept it clean. Arf was in front and Johnny was just behind. I waited until my tyres where up to temp and started to settle in. I was managing everything OK, Arf wasn’t getting away and I was able to keep Johnny behind, and I was happy with my pace. After 5 or so laps we saw some yellow flags just after the tunnel. I slowed down a little, but saw the yellow flags a little to late, I couldn’t see anything in the way and picked my line though the chicane, I didn’t see the car on it’s roof the other side of the chicane until far too late. I hit the upturned car pretty square on my right hand wheel, ripping it off straight away. I hit the brakes, but a 3 wheel F1 car doesn’t brake too well and I hit that wall pretty hard at Tabac. I’m glad that I didn’t collect anyone else, it must have been interesting from you guys behind. I’m again very sorry about my swearing, at this point, I’ll make sure it doesn’t happen again.

After my Shift & R I did my stop and go and was in a little clear air, with Rog just up ahead. I managed to catch Rog but getting past was a whole different story. He was so good under traction away from the corner, and he was driving great, placing his car very well so I just couldn’t get a good run on him. I figured out that my only chance was at Tabac, but would require the move being setup much earlier. I had to follow Rog very closely to setup any chance of a pass and I think I tapped him a couple of time, so again sorry about that Rog. I just couldn’t do it, and with 5 laps to go I lost it and spun just after the tunnel. Luckily it was just a spin and I lost about 10 second, and in the end I think this spin did me a favour, as it helped me collect my thoughts and setup for a last charge.

I caught Rog with 2 laps to go. On the second to last lap we had some traffic and I lsot my chance to follow Rog where I needed. So it was all down to the last lap. Over the start and finish line I got a good line and really closed up on Rog up the hill. Though the second sector I managed to keep really close to Rog, and planned my line for the tunnel. I managed to nail my line, and got a great drive down to Tabac. Unfortunately for me, so did Rog and he covered the inside line, so that was that. What happened next I’d like to claim was a great, planned move all down to how brave I was prepared to be, and all about skill and daring. I’d like to claim that, but it was actually more to do with me messing up my braking and going in too hot, which then turned into a overtaking move as I had nowhere else to go. Thanks to Rog too, as he saw me late and gave me loads of space.

Overall a good race, I had a race long battle with Rog which was great fun, and I hope Rog enjoyed it too. Congrats to everyone who took part, and I’m looking forward to the next race already.
