Again, I'm not sure if this is the one to use but from indications I've seen elsewhere, it's probably the best.
The mod team are happy to follow your recommendation Doni, schedule updated.  Hope the track is stable for on-line races  Smiley

Tuesdays are almost a complete non starter for me unfortunately due to previous commitments. Sad

But as I really wanted to run in this series I've added myself as part time on the off chance I can at least make a few of the races.

Last night I drove these cars for the first time at the Ring and had good fun, but I can't race on Tuesday, sorry.  Sad

Would you object very much to having a newbie in this series?  I've played alot of GPL offline on my lonely todd since 1998 but I've never actually taken it online before.  The '55 cars have really lit my fire though and I'm enjoying learning their quirks.  I'd love some online competition and an opportunity to learn.  I plan to just take A Gordini and look for consistency at least for the first few events.  Would that be ok?

You are more than welcome! Registration processed you are in.

Given that you are new to the on-line aspect please take some time to read the rules and Driver Etiquette pages on our web site.  They are accessible via the "UKGPL home to racing" banner at the top of this page.

We will be running practice servers in the run-up to the start of the season.  Please try them out to make sure you can connect.

The Gordini has horrific brakes, a peaky motor and only 4 gears. If you want something a bit slower but stable to start in think I'd recommend a Connaught instead Smiley
I think these will remain inside your token allowance.

Oh, and welcome to UKGPL!

Welcome ReiverEcosse, we are a friendly bunch here so if you have any questions just post on the forum and I am sure someone will have an answer or advice.

Unless you are an absolute alien with 6 tentacles, a brain the size of a planet and reflexes that defy the laws of time and physics, I would not worry about taking the Gordini. Much better to use a car that you are most comfortable with and which might give you some competitive fun. The Gordini is likely to drop you into the realms of being lapped by the faster cars/drivers and if you are new to online racing I would suggest that is an area that you would want to avoid if you can.  Wink

The difference between the AI cars and real people is going to be the area that will be the biggest challenge. AI  are usually very predictable, people are not although we try to be  Roll Eyes. So, a few sessions on the practice server will be invaluable.

But don't be scared just try and relax and enjoy the "real" racing. If you ask anyone here they will admit that when they sat on the grid for their first ever on line race, their heart rate was around 500 beats per min and dropped to a sedate 200 for the race!!! Trust me that does reduce after a few races  Grin

Well thanks to you all for being so welcoming.  I took the Gordini round BA for a few laps last night and yes, it was twitchy as hell.  The Vanwall seems much friendlier and also doesn't wheeze so much coming out of the last corner.  Happy with the ratios and the handling now (I just wish the brakes didn't fade quite so much, those two big stops are going to see some fun I think), so I'll take it online for some practicing ASAP.

I've set the UKGPL_4 server going in practice mode for the 1955 Grand Prix Round 1.  You should find the server in the IGOR race list.

Please try it out, we need a few drivers to join to give ReiverEcosse a bit of on-line practice against real drivers  Smiley

Cheers Phil.

You might encourage more people to use it if the practice session could be longer than 15 minutes.  That only gives me time for one pc crash before it isn't worth rejoining!

On my first attempt I encountered an invisible object in the middle of the track on the exit from the last corner.  It chucked the front of the car in the air and resulted in a blue screen of death!  :-(

Hi Dave,

I wanted to give it a try. However, I have a problem with the starting time. I am in the U.S., and I will be picking up my son from school on weekdays.

Cheers,
Walter
(fellow amateur)

Any amateurs interested in this?

(Admittedly, I had tried a few laps round Monaco, but just did not get on with it - but of course, maybe that was not the best of introductions...)

However, if there are other lost-souls that would otherwise be forced into watching Victoria; then I'll give it a shot.  Until the first corner; then will be making use of all the unlimited resets!

Cheers,
Dave.
