In the approach to Turn 1, Lap 1. The view from both drivers cockpits was limited. Dave takes an inside line for the corner & contact was made as Fran turned in. Dave had some overlap, but less than 50% & bears the responsibility. A little more caution would have saved both drivers.

Season 34 PRIVATEERS – Round 8 –  Laguna Seca

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT Due to the number of registrations for this series we will be splitting into two grids for the rest of the sesaon. All drivers have been allocated to either Works or Privateers. If you don’t know check the link for Driver Lists below. If you have not already voted to join the Privateers championship you will need to do so to see the password.
Laguna Seca is a paved road racing track in central California used for both auto racing and motorcycle racing, built in 1957 near both Salinas and Monterey, California, United States.
The racetrack is 2.238 miles (3.602 km) long, with a 180 feet (55 m) elevation change. Its eleven turns are highlighted by the circuit's signature turn, the downhill-plunging "Corkscrew" at Turns 8 and 8A. A variety of racing, exhibition, and entertainment events are held at the raceway, ranging from superkarts to sports car racing to music festivals. The name Laguna Seca is Spanish for "dry lagoon": the area where the track now lies was once a lake, and the course was built around the dry lake bed.

Privateer Drivers are permitted 1 Shift R followed by a Stop & Go in the stalls in pit lane within 2 laps (its does not have to be your stall). Failure to make a stop will result in a 30 second time penalty. If you require a stop & go on the final lap & are unable to complete a time penalty of 15 secs is added.

Please restrict chat to pit messages including at the end of the race until ALL drivers still racing have crossed the line.

Can't be only bad method to change gears, after the explosion of the engine S&G but after only one curve black smoke.
In my opinion is also bad luck.

Same troubles for me.
I broke my engine after 29-30 laps, then stop and go, and again black smoke from the Maserati V12 after 39 laps.
I could finish the race followed by a deep black smoke.

A very frustrating race for me, I was 5th on the starting grid, then 4th when Andreas went out of the track on the Esses.
On 2nd lap, I spun at the exit of the Corkscrew and became 6th.

Then it was during 25 laps, one of my best ever race : I overtook 5 cars (often because they spun or had troubles) and I ran in first position from (around) lap 23 to lap 27 ...when it became one of my worst ever race :  I spun again and broke my engine 2 laps later.
After the S'n'G, I broke again the engine to finish only 6th.

Could be that the Cooper is not the best for this track.
