Season 35 – 1966 Grand Prix – Round 6 – Wiesbaden

Round 6 of the Historics Trophy  takes us to Wiesbaden in Germany.
The Wiesbadener Automobiel-Turnier was an event first organised in the early 1920s. Apart from the Hohe Wurzel hillclimb and a gymkhana, it also included races for sports- and racing cars titled Rund um den Neroberg from 1924-1929 and in 1931. Motorcycles were also catered for at least once, in 1927. The races were originally held on an eight-shaped 12.5 km circuit north of the city, which comprised 86 curves through undulating terrain. Large parts of this course seem to have vanished since. The sole documented fastest lap is Hans Stuck's 9.22,0 = 80.1 km/h (1928). In 1931, the race took place once more, now on a shortened, or possibly completely new, 4.6 km circuit. Bugatti-driver HeinrichJoachim von Morgen clocked the fastest lap in 2.41,4 = 102.6 km/h. The new course was used just once, because after 1931 the Neroberg races were dropped in favour of grass track races at the airfield of Erbenheim, just south-east of Wiesbaden. That same airfield was later paved and hosted a one-off auto race in 1958. The next races in Wiesbaden took place in May 1935 and 1936 as part of the Wiesbadener Motorsportkämpfe, which was more or less the successor of the Automobiel-Turnier mentioned above. The event included a long-distance regularity run, but also a speed event (Hochleistungsprüfung) on a 7.48 km street circuit in Wiesbaden, for touring cars, sports cars and motorcycles, although it should be noted there is a possibility these actually used some sort of time trial-like format.

The full time drivers can start to practice as soon as the server is available.
Reserve drivers can also join as soon as the server becomes available but must leave the server with 35 minutes of qualifying left, for a total of 5 minutes; this will allow any remaining full timers to join.  If there is enough space on the grid, the reserve drivers will be able to rejoin when there are 30 mins of qualifying left.

Please read the championship specific rules on the championship standings page.
Password: see above
(2) Driver lists can be found on the championship standings page - 1966

There is no Red Zone. Moderating will be on reported incidents only. Remember that lap 1 incidents carry an additional penalty place.

The chassis token system is explained on the Historics Trophy standings page.

Please restrict chat to pit messages including at the end of the race until ALL drivers still racing have crossed the line.

A driver must have sufficient tokens for the chassis he drives in the race.  Any driver who does not have sufficient tokens will be disqualified from the result and his tokens will be set to zero.

The chassis a driver uses in qualifying are disregarded when determining his token spend.
Note:  This is to cater for the instances when a driver either does not start or inadvertently joins with the wrong chassis and subsequently rejoins the server in another.

Any tokens not spent at the end of the season are ignored and are not used to determine championship positions in the event of a tie.

PRO rules means Shift-Rs are not allowed at any time and the damage model is realistic.

Drivers must complete 50% race distance to score.

Having a problem downloading this track.

The "Wiesbaden.zip" link returns a " 404 not found" response in my browser, and the files listed beneath refer me to SRMZ where I get a "not authorized" message??  I have had a Win 10 update imposed upon my PC this morning so I am wondering if this has adjusted things to prevent me getting at the download??

Anyone else experiencing problems??

Thanks Clive for the reply

OK, I have beaten the stupid box into submission and it has reluctantly given up the files. Roll Eyes .

SRMZ appears to be my problem Huh as it no longer wants to recognise my log-in details ( or at least that is the message that I get )..BUT strangely. it has permitted the download of the files??? Undecided So I have the track installed and working off-line and will test it on-line later.

Well...……………. It started with an intense qualifying session ( I had one screen freeze which upped the stress levels a little ) and  the race was looking like a tight battle.
The start was as expected with Clive's 3 litre Lotus powering past on the run down to T1, but my little roller skate was able to brake later and slip up the inside.
The next few laps were a great battle between Ziu, Clive Loynes and myself and I was really enjoying the different handling of the 3 litre car against the 2 litre Brabham BRM and Ferrari.
Then Clive vanished Huh?? So it was me chasing Ziu for the next laps and looking for a chance to pass. I had worked out that I could perhaps draft past him at the end of the straight if I was tucked right behind him out of the final turn. I was all set to have a go at my plan and I got myself  positioned for the draft and I only just avoided rear ending Ziu when I suspect that his engine failed???  Now I was all alone  with around 19 laps to go and on a track where one mistake could be the end.

Basically I cruised the rest of the race until the last few laps when I had Tago as a target to lap. Twenty laps was a long lonely race but I quite enjoyed this track and my first race around these streets......I hope that Monaco is as rewarding  Roll Eyes

Finishing has been a very happy result for me, after a difficult race.

Yesterday when I was going to start my particular training session my PC did not start ... ops ... I thought I could not run ... I've wasted with this machine 3 power supplies and maybe is not that thing... a disaster ... no training.

Today, just in case, round 18:00 hours (17 for Great Bretain) I tried to start and ops the machine after two attempts has started .... wowowowowowow ... training time!

Today has been a very long day ... we had to get up early to avoid the messes that are in Barcelona and I was tired ... so I concentrated on shooting long runs and let the times fall lapping ... then I have adjusted a setup for the Q and to rest a little bit

Then everything has been enjoy ... the q put me in the middle of the grid ... in the race, the starting nonsense has given me a position ... I think that the 29 are many to fight everything in the first 3

As I have been shooting the last one I've been able to take a smoother pace to control fatigue and I've only made a mistake at the end

Congratulations to the podium ...  Clive for the win, Dave for his 2nd and Phil for his 3rd

Thanks all for racing ...  a pleasure Wink

I have always been impressed by GPL's ability to capture the really annoying aspects of motor racing.

I must have done hundreds of laps of practice without any sign of engine problems but just when it looked like I was going to get a good battle with Evil and Ziu, the damn clockwork failed!

Well done all finishers.

PS  Note to Evil.  Your stealth Brabham is just about impossible to spot in my mirrors!  Can't you use a car with a bit more colour in it?

I don't think a change of colour will help ( not even sure that there is a different colour option for this car?) I actually think I am moving too fast for you to see properly  Roll Eyes  Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin
