Moderator's Report

Dominant win by Cookie in the Lotus, 2nd spot claimed by the steadily improving Pepe & 3rd place went to Dave Curtis in the Ferrari.
The replay keeps crashing to desktop so I will trust that the six drivers who took a reset did complete their Stop & Go penalty.

Thanks Axel, Phil and Paul for the advice.

I made a mistake, I have a G27 not a G25.
And I use buttons on wheel to shift up or down. I never used the shift lever.

You finished ahead of both of us, so you were not slow overall!
Not slow on the mixed but on the straight.I'm curious to look the replay.

Lucky to have been able to make that; PC had got increasingly unstable since the last kick-out at JSMT series & recently Win10 just wasn't working at all.

<ramble>
This morning was a clean Win10 re-install & this evening was spent trying to get soundcard/G25/ALshift/xpadder/GEM+/GPL FFB/nvidia tweaks all playing well together.

For some reason, still could not seem to get either G25 buttons to work for look left/right,  although they tested ok.  Brought server up for a last 8min test whilst I was able to map keypress via  Logitech Profiler (not sure I've used that before!)  so at least functionality restored.

Lack of PC recently & other messing around meant no real practice.  Turns out this is not the Riverside I was expecting Smiley   Still, most of it is the same - so picked up same setup as used previously.
</ramble>

You guys are right about the track surface - to start with I was sliding off everywhere!
Just had to try to slow it all down & be less frantic, although it did seem wrong.

There seemed to be a lot happening within view & suggested by Pribluda.
Early on due to some misfortune elsewhere, I happened to be in 2nd place briefly with Mr Higdon reeling me in.  Realistically I was not battling for that position, so just gave lots of room;  he was then off like a scalded cat.

Unlucky BN at the start;  did see you creep a bit & guessed that was why you peeled into the pits the next time round.

Also unlucky DR,  you were long gone - but I took the place as it was being handed to me.

Cheers all.
Dave.

Preliminarily, I want to thank everyone in the administration of UKGPL for creating this great league because at Willow you gave me the best duel I ever had (with Phil) and tonight you gave me the best finish I have had since I began racing from across the pond with you guys four years ago.

We raced here twice last year in oAo, once in CanAm and last fall in the '67 cars. Tonight it was my turn for the Lotus, a car that can make even the most hapless stroker look like Fangio. I didn't do much on my first six laps on qualifying fuel, so I went back out for six more. That set included a 1:45+, putting me 1.5 seconds behind Cookie in second and just four-hundredths in front of Rainier (ton prénom, SVP). I knew Cookie would disappear at the rate of two seconds/lap and figured my chances of hanging on to second place weren't any better than catching the leader. To my surprise, however, by the start of the seventh lap I was down to Cookie by only nine seconds and ahead of Rainier by eight. This was unusually comfortable for me, for in races with the AI I was in constant battles with those guys from start to finish. "This is feeling pretty easy," I thought.

My experience has been that as soon as a thought like that pops into your head, your world is about to become unrecognizable. I badly lost the car coming into T6, went through the tires and into the wall hard. That cost me my left front tire. I tried to reset, but was so rattled I couldn't find the SHFT-R combo until Rainier had already overtaken me. I scrambled down the long straight and headed into the pit for the stop-n-go. That gave Dave enough time to slink past me, so coming out of the pits I lay fourth. The fiasco had cost me 30 seconds altogether.

I managed to reel Dave back in and then set out to recapture Rainier. When that part of the chase began at the start of L10, I was 15 seconds behind him and gaining not at all. How could I have put so much time between us in the first seven laps and now I couldn't pick up even a crummy second? For three laps he held the gap at 15 seconds, but when I began L15 I was just three seconds behind. I didn't realize that he'd hit the tires in T4 on the previous lap, had done a complete spin, and recovered (though with some obvious damage). It took me just a couple of laps to overtake him. Toward the end of the race I saw that Dave had slipped into third place, but I was reasonably confident that I could take it fairly easy with just a few laps remaining. Cookie beat me by a minute or more for the win, which suggests to me that he might be better reclassified to compete with the other guys from outer space.  Smiley

And now for a self-congratulatory glass of wine.

Not sure if it was his setup or more likely he was getting a better exit out of the corner onto the straight. I suggest you check his corner exit speed on the server replay and see how yours compares.
After the comparison with GPL replay analyser,my top speed was 298 at the end of the straight against 305 of Andreas and Phil.
Comparison on similar lap time(1,50).I don't know if the speed of the other cars was influenced by the stream slip.
Andreas could you give me your gear setup?i whant to understand.

Great race Pepe !  Champagne for you !
On the long straight before the pits, you overtook me like if I was driving a Cooper (...F2) !
Mon prénom, c'est David !
Is Pepe your real first name ? or Giuseppe ? or ...?

About my shift down issue, I am not sure this is a hardware problem with switch or something else.
It looks more like a software issue as when I quit Gem+2 and re-enter GPL, it is working again.

When I calibrate my steering wheel in the past, I remember this button (used for shift-down) is the hardest to configure with Logitech profiler. It needed several tries.
Maybe, the best could be to use another button...  but it’s gonna take me a while to get used to it !

Je m'appelle Robert (Bob). When I joined oAo five years ago there was a Robert, a Roberto, and two Bobs. The same thing had happened to me in my high school Spanish class, where I was given the name "Pepe" to avoid confusion.  Smiley

Hi Eric,
The file looks as though it should still be there on the original link,  but not downloading for me.
I've tried uploading again,  but Sendspace access is running really really really slowly.

In the meantime, have uplodated to: WeTransfer

Which will be valid 7 days.
The Sendspace upload has currently got to 17%...!

Cheers,
Dave.
