Great Bernie,

- have you installed wine? From Mint repositories or winehq.org?
- if you have wine (stable 5.01 ?),  run in terminal "winecfg" - this will add gecko and mono and create a C:/ filesystem
- now you open the "user" folder and with ctrl-h unhide the hidden folders and files
- go to .wine folder  -> C: here you have the system folder where to copy GPL Wink
- copy the GEMPackage_2.5.0.32.exe to c: and run it with wine windows programstarter and let it make C:/ GPLsecrets folder.

IMPORTANT after installing GEM+ delete the gem.ini! It's in /home/bernie/.wine/drive_c/users/Public/Documents/GEM+/ before you run GEM!

Out of mint you have access to all W10 folders and files, so no need to copy any other files to your SSD.
The GPL folder becomes much faster if you place it on it!

Highly recommended is to look through this page,
e.g. to activate the numpad and MS fonts...turn on firewall..

Hi Axel
really struggling with this , and after several attempts at finding the correct wine d/l I gave it up as a lost cause , then decided that because I couldn't find wine 5.0.1 anywhere I downloaded 5.0.2 here -  https://www.winehq.org/announce/5.0.2

Is this OK ? anything else I need to know for the install

P.S. my wine cellar is now fully stocked  Wink

Thanks

Bernie

Yes Bernie the 5.02 is the last stable version since some days, its just a security update.

You should do the steps shown here and copy paste line after line into the terminal. (ubuntu20 =mint20)

once the steps are done run "winecfg" in terminal and let install the gecko and mono files - after this you have the drive_c in .wine folder as a base for all GPL stuff

Axel , not sure whats happening here

Running winecfg gives me this ....

bernie@bernie-desktop:~$ winecfg
0020:fixme:plugplay:build_report_descriptor Clamping joystick to 6 axis
wine: Read access denied for device L"\\??\\D:\\", FS volume label and serial are not available.

bernie@bernie-desktop:~$

I am thinking these are my USB drives / card reader ?

If I look in "DISKS" folder it shows my 2 hdd c: & d:  but they are unmounted , is this correct ?

In "File Manager" I can access my  hdd  and "see" GPL GEM etc.

Where to find wine windows programme starter ?

 Undecided

Bernie it seems you did not completely install wine.

Please go to https://wiki.winehq.org/Ubuntu and do step by step again

add repository only for Ubuntu 20.04 and then install stable branch.

When all done, run winecfg, you should get this menu from it

After you have succeeded winecfg

Go to your folder "bernie" and unhide hidden files,

now you see .wine -> open it -> drive_c

If you have a Win GPL.exe right click on it and open it with the "wine windows programme starter" once and set it as default.
Now every exe is started with the wine windows programme starter Wink

Axel

Ive checked & I have the winecnfg menu already

I can go to bernie folder & unhide files

I can open "wine" C:

I click GPL.exe & open with wine prog starter

Gpl begins loading but I get screen freeze with GPL icons , all in large size like its in wrong resolution 640 x 480 ?

Then have to reboot !

So I think wine is all there but maybe a problem with using my 2 hdd's  with partitions ?

I am thinking to put GPL Gem GPL secrets etc all on the same drive instead of seperated and see if that works ?

P.S. I didnt see a need to re install wine but if you think I should must I delete the old wine first ?

What graphics card do you use?
Keep wine as is if it works.

In winecfg graphics menu you can set windowed mode or fullscreen.
Windowed -> If you set the monitors resolution in GEM all menu is 640x480 but driving is fullscreen - I love it!

I prefer to copy my GPL folder to drive_c and install the GEMpackage into C:/gplsecrets (wich is a must!)

Radeon GPU will only run with Direct3DV2 rasterizer!
It's ok for server but problematic for racing, you can't tweak it in a gui...
For experienced Linuxer it is radeon-profile where you can do some basics.

Axel

Strange to say my Radion R9 was running best with open GLV2 !

After swapping the GPU to GForce and messing with drivers,  GPL will run from Linux but only runs Spa at 36 fps . Possibly because I cant get GEM to run and try some other rasteriser ?

I assume you run GEM from linux ?

If so how to do this ?

another thing I noted , now I cant get a race list on iGOR (run from GEM on HDD ) I have checked the server IP the password is OK . UKGPL chat is OK

something wierd is happening with my GPL install  Roll Eyes

GEM+ is a must!

You download GEMPackage_2.5.0.32.exe and copy it to drive_c - from here you run it and let install c:/GPLSecrets - it will make shortcuts on the linux desktop

And you have to run this GEM and iGOR in linux!

Ah, forgot -

before you run GEM+ the first time after the install, you have to delete the GEM.ini

You find it here: /home/bernie/.wine/drive_c/users/Public/Documents/GEM+/
