Moderator's Report

Summary
A dominant win for Dulima in the Mercedes with Dave Curtis in second place. A fine drive by Rainier secured the final place on the podium.

Server replay time: 0h01m59s

Lap 1 – Serraglio – Albert Hallu and Francesco Molteni
Albert gets a great drive out of Lesmos 2 and closes on Francesco. Albert pulls alongside on the approach to Ascari. Francesco drifts left and contact is made. Albert can continue but Francesco spins and crashes out of the race.

Albert did nothing wrong. He had a good drive out of Lesmos 2 and started to pull alongside Francesco whilst maintaining a straight line and leaving plenty of room.

Francesco was in Philippe’s slipstream and Albert was clearly visible in his left mirror. It should have been obvious that Albert had moved alongside and consequently Francesco should have maintained his line and left enough room for Albert. But instead Francesco allowed his car to drift left and consequently contact was made.

Season 40 – 1955 Grand Prix – Round 4 – Privateers - Monza

This race announcement is for the PRIVATEERS.

The fourth race in the 1955 Grand Prix series finds us at For the second race in the 1955 Grand Prix series we visit the “Cathedral of Speed” in Italy. The Autodromo Nazionale Monza is a race track located near the city of Monza, north of Milan. Built in the Royal Villa of Monza park in a woodland setting, the circuit has gone through numerous changes over the years.  Perhaps the most striking feature in the park is the steep banked (sopraelevata) curves on the now defunct 10Km variant, first used in 1955.  The original circuit (used between 1922 and 1933) also had an oval section but the banked curves were not as wide or as steep as the later 1955 variant.  The banked circuit was used on four occasions for Formula 1 races; in 1955, 1956, 1960 and finally in 1961 when it was decided that Formula 1 cars were just too fast to be safe on the oval track.   The banked oval section was last used in any capacity in 1969.  From 1962 onwards, the Formula 1 Grand Prix was held on the "road circuit" which by the early 1970s was also deemed to be too fast for Formula 1 cars.  Two chicanes were introduced for 1972 Italian Grand Prix, one at the Ascari curve and another on the approach to the Curva Grande.

For this race we will use the 1955 layout but without the steep banking.

17 laps seems to be very short for the race (only 30 minutes).

down to the last 11 or so laps and a big disco..  dumped me back the desktop and then to Gem.  got a socket error.  not too common.

cars were warping badly for a lot of the time, during the first few laps it was awful.  hope it wasnt my connection.

im not sure who it was early on, I tried not to go too deep into a corner due to my tyres not being wam but my brakes being red hot !!!. was trying hard to drive very carefully, but had cars flashing in and out of my view up front and had a car come up my inside.  I thought they were going fast enough to pass and as it was so early in the race I happily tried to yield..  next thing was the car must braked, I assume or taken to the verge... and then the next time i saw them they spinning behind me.

not sure if it was David or Philippe, But who ever it was Mon Ami..  My Sincerest apologies.

If i did something wrong and spoiled anyones race please submit a race report.

Paul V.

You did nothing wrong.

We were following you, Albert and me, before the Parabolica but Albert couldn't enough brake, lost the control and hit my Maserati ...
Albert's car was upside down and it was the end of his race.  I lost several seconds but I could continue.

Thanks for that David. I was feeling bad. Sorry that you and Albert had any problems. It was going quite well until the Disco..

Down on my luck for this one . First off Qually saw me pop an engine on my flying lap , next attempt I everyone was flying past at what seemed twice the speed I cold muster , realised my gearing was out for any tow effect so got higher ratios fitted just in time to join the grid .
Race Lap 1 I have to swerve to avoid a recovering car so lose the tow from the leading bunch .
Lap 4 Phillipe is rejoining from an off but goes  straight out onto the racing line and I have to take avoiding action ending up in the barrier  (luckily with only the paintwork scratched)  to his credit Phillipe slows to give the position up after which we  enjoy some close racing for 6 or 7 laps until his Maserfarti explodes . after that it was a lonely run to the finish , almost went off a few times trying to stay awake .
Grats to the Podium & finishers  Grin
