Season 40 1967F1 PRIVATEERS – Round 7  - Monsanto 1959

The seventh race in the 1967 Grand Prix Privateers series finds us in Portugal. The street circuit of Monsanto Park to be precise. Built on parkland, the circuit was considered difficult to drive because it crossed so many different types of surfaces, including tramlines at one point. The track hosted numerous races from 1954 to 1959, but only one race qualified as a Formula One event: the 1959 Portuguese Grand Prix, won by Stirling Moss. He won the race in the twilight hours, since the race was purposefully started late in the day to avoid the intense late summer sun.

The Lotus makes a crappy engine noise on my rig , is there a way to change / modify it to something that sounds more like a DFV on song ?

Your carsounds are in a folder called 'sound,' which seems like a sound place for them. Cheesy  The '67 Lotus is called - lot.wav.  With a double click, it will play for you.
Many alternate soundsets have been posted at SRMZ over the years.  Download and drag/drop over your defaulty DFV.

SRMZ still seems to be down (and a few of the sounds links at https://gpllinks.org/ seem to point there).

If you have previously installed GPL using the GPLPS installer,  you probably have additional sounds under:   \gpl\repository\GPLPSInstaller\Sound  which could be copied to your \gpl\sound  folder as maddog mentions.

Alternatively,  Here is .zip with just the Lotus sound files from the GPLS installer.  Although you may want to copy/rename your existing \gpl\sound\lot.wav  before replacing with one of them.

Because of the magnetized hay bales and other off-track perils, I thought the attrition here would be better than two-thirds of the field. I even gave some thought to not qualifying at all, rather than take a chance on being involved in the usual first-lap massacre. But I was "forced" into driving the Lotus by the league rules --- what a shame, huh? --- and if you're going to be given a Lotus, your only job at that point is to drive it like you stole it.  So I did.

Eduardo was just ahead of me, qualifying seventh in the Honda. I figured I'd get by him with no problem at the start, and did so easily. I also managed to outrun two others ahead of me when the flag dropped. By the bottom of the hill I was fifth overall. But trying to keep faster cars behind me at a track like this for the next 25 laps was far from an appealing prospect, so I let all three of them by me just after the beginning of lap #2. I figured I'd have a cruise for a while and let the guys up front destroy themselves in the bales, but that plan didn't work out too well. For one thing no one seemed to be dropping out; for another, Albert found his way into my tail pipes and stayed there for the next ten laps or more. Then Eduardo screwed up at the bottom of the hill, letting me overtake him. I'd let him by without a fight once, so I decided to make him fight for my position for a change. He tried valiantly but the chances of a Honda outrunning a Lotus at Monsanto, especially with the long, steep hill, are next to impossible without mistakes.

So I finished fifth with no damage to the car and no major errors. That was the longest 50 minutes I've spent in a while. Balcarce isn't one of my favorite places, but at least there I won't be white-knuckling at 10/10ths for almost an hour.

First I would like to congratulate Hunt, for the beautiful victory with Cooper

A podium disputed with Bennett

A deserved third place Rannier

Secondly, I want to apologize for making a mistake down there, I got crossed, in a very dangerous place, I tried to get out as fast as possible and almost got in the way of Rannier and Pepe.

Finally, thanks Pepe, I tried but I went beyond my limit, I lost focus and made mistakes many times, but the dispute was good while it lasted.

The championship is still open and with three races to go, it's going to catch fire!

David, is that your garden?

Only a small part of it  Wink

(Ascending to 14,410 feet above sea level, Mount Rainier stands as an icon in the Washington landscape. An active volcano, Mount Rainier is the most glaciated peak in the contiguous U.S.A., spawning five major rivers. Subalpine wildflower meadows ring the icy volcano while ancient forest cloaks Mount Rainier’s lower slopes. Wildlife abounds in the park’s ecosystems. A lifetime of discovery awaits.)

I hope you reach your peak soon, Monsieur Montagne. laugh

My thanks, Dulima.  I remember racing a little with you guys in Brazil, some years ago.  The Internet was not good, so my races were few.  It's nice we can all race here - Internet problems of many years now forgotten!  A Championship waits for you, if you are fast. Cool
