Congratulations Tristan and Axel! And congrats on the championship Tristan. Nice job by Fulvio to take P2 in the championship.
Qualifying was interesting. I was impressed by Yannick and Tristan´s times. I knew early in qualifying I could do 3:08´s but minor mistakes kept me from it. I was worried Yannick was going to keep pole position. I really didn´t want to start behind him. At the end I had just enough time to run one more flying lap. As for going fast then, I was more concerned with driving a good line and staying within my limits. It´s miraculous how close I was to take the pole from Yannick.
I didn´t have a 71 Can Am setup to copy for this race so I copied the one I made for Roswell knowing I´d be at least somewhat comfortable with it, having driven it recently. I made adjustments throughout qualifying.
Great run by Greg to score a convincing win! The class of the field. And not content with that, later in the day, he went on to victory in an ADC race at Monaco in a GP66 round. Let's not be greedy, now, Greg.
Thanks for the praise Doni. You might say you helped created the monster I can be. I was a little angry from my poor showing at Roswell. I redeemed myself this time. From some of the earliest races I had with you, I always thought if I can get as good as you, I´ll be good at GPL. I might be faster than you but I still don´t know if I am as good as you. I often found your consistency and tenacity admirable. I feel similar about Fulvio. You, I, and Fulvio all set our fastest laps on our last complete lap.
I drove this race similar to what you would do when younger. I wanted to drive consistent to start with no concern about lap times. I just needed to let the car do it´s magic. I set fast race lap every lap for the first 7 laps often by less than 0.2 seconds faster than the previous lap. I relaxed on lap 8 hoping to push the car for speed on the remaining laps. 4 of the 5 finishing laps were fast race laps too with a margin of difference in the 0.1-0.2 second range. I was surprised Tristan was listed as more consistent.
Also, I take my beatings too Doni. I got worked over good at Silverstone in my BRM.
I compared my best lap with Greg's and am astonished to see that we each had about the same top end at 210 mph, give or take. As well, we each took the 'yump' at about 200 mph. That was breathtaking! Where I really get killed is on braking. I looked at our entries to Schatten to compare and Greg goes in there fully 120 metres deeper before going for the binders. Goodness me! I'm at my limit. How do you compete with that?
Yes, the Porsche has a good top speed. I was surprised by that while watching the Grenzlandring replay. Doni, you would need my client replay to see where I am actually braking. Your client or the server replay will always make it look like I´m braking later than I really am. I was perplexed by phenomenon watching oAo replays my first seasons there until Iestyn told me I needed to be watching the drivers´ client replays to see what was really happening.
It´s funny that you mention braking. That´s what I liked least about my car. My front wheels were more prone to locking than I liked. That was a problem in practice. At the end of practice I wanted one more percent bias to the rear brakes but knew I didn´t have the time to make adjustments I might need on tire pressure and suspension settings.
I liked getting the green McLaren again. It´s rare to see that color in this mod.
Thanks for the fun gentlemen. And my apologies for the long post.
