Season 41 1967F1 PRIVATEERS – Round 3 – PORTO

The 3rd round of the 1967F1 Season 41 will be held at Porto.
Circuito da Boavista is a street circuit in Porto, Portugal, which was used twice for the Formula One Portuguese Grand Prix. The original course began at the harbor-front 'Esplanada do Rio de Janeiro', continued on 'Avenida da Boavista', (hence the circuit's name), and then twisted its way through small neighborhoods back to the start-finish line.
The first Grand Prix was held in 1958, and saw an act of sportsmanship by Stirling Moss. Moss came to the defense of his countryman and title rival Mike Hawthorn, who faced a penalty for having driven towards oncoming traffic after a spin. Moss persuaded the stewards not to disqualify Hawthorn, who retained his second place and 6 points. Hawthorn eventually won the drivers championship by 1 point over Moss.

With 20 tokens (10+10) at the start , you can choose what you want : Lotus to BRM ! and Ferrari of course.

With three laps to go I managed to bury myself in the bales at the second 90o left-hander while running 30 seconds behind Albert and more than one minute ahead of Bernie. All I'd ever wanted to do from the moment I saw this venue on the schedule was finish in one piece and demagnetize the part of my hard drive that contained this track folder.

I never thought I'd say this about any place but after visiting Porto, I'm actually looking forward to the Ring.

I agree Pepe, after Beal Valley & Porto, Nurbrgring doesn't seem so bad.

Some of the haybales you can skim, others had been treated with a special Portuguese glue. I got a wheel stuck in the latter type on my 8th lap. Was hoping to make 50% distance.

A very high attrition rate.

Steady drive from Bernie &, as Fran mentioned, Albert is showing better pace this season.

The big stumbling block for me was the final turn onto the promenade , hitting the haybale gaurding the lamp post was fatal and running wide of it led up dead end alley . I was probably losing 3or 4 secs per lap here from being over cautious ,even so I fell into the trap on my last lap . fortunately for me others had there problems in the final laps as I suddenly went from P6 to P4 !
Apart from that an early race for a few laps with Paul was entertaining until he did a pirouette in the downhill section , after that it was a case of deciding which magazine to read for the remainder of the race .

Grats to Francesco and the podium .commiserations to all others and better luck next time
