Season 41 – 1955 Grand Prix – Round 3 – Works - Dundrod

The third race in the 1955 Grand Prix series finds us at Dundrod in Northern Ireland. The Dundrod Circuit was first used in 1950 for the RAC Tourist Trophy Sports Car race and for the Formula One (non-championship) Ulster Trophy. The Sports Cars raced again in 1951 through to 1955 and the Formula 1 cars from 1951 through to 1953. The circuit comprised public roads closed for racing including a section of the B38 Hannahstown Road between Glenavy and Hannahstown, a section of the B101 Leathemstown Road from Leathemstown Corner to Dundrod and a section of the B153 Quarterland/Tornagrough Road from Cochranstown to the road junction of the B38 Upper Springsfield Road/Hannahstown Road at the Lindsay Hairpin. The last car race held on the Dundrod Circuit was the 1955 RAC Tourist Trophy race in which sadly there were 3 fatalities. The narrow, high-speed nature of the circuit, meant it was just too dangerous and since then it has only been used for motorcycle racing.

For this race we will use the 1955 layout which includes the Leathemstown Bridge section.

Just one screen freeze so far. It was whilst crashing between Wheeler's and the Hair Pin.

The IP address in the announcement isn't the same as the Works server that is running on iGOR.

Should be 146.198.65.66:32666

In my efforts not to hit Doni I got sideways at Wheeler's and triggered a screen freeze.

Not a lot of fun in this any more.

I've had lots of fun but I don't have the skills to progress through the field with the slower cars.
I still love the 55mod but I'm going to knock this series on the head and do races where I can use a decent car.

Chasing Evil and I got over excited. Clipped the grass and left the track. Game over. I LOVE this track in the 55 cars.

I LOVE this track in the 55 cars.
So do I, it is very authentic but very tough. I'm not sure everyone agrees Shocked. Not enough finishers so there will be a few disappointed drivers.

I normally struggle to maintain concentration when I'm on my own but today I tried hard to focus and apart from clipping the banking once at Leathemstown Bridge, I drove a clean race with no other mistakes.

What a scare at the end, after the checkered line, I slowed down the car and entered a path to the left, and the game crashed!!! and disconnected.
That's why I couldn't congratulate Phill and Doni, the great highlights of the race!!!! Congratulations guys!!!!!!!

Phil, was me that raced at 30 fps, very hard, I took easy and had only an off at the hairpin were you can't return on track if you don't you go back to the bottom of the hairpin.
First time I had this problem at Dundrod55.
I tried also online, same result. Even in external view there were some significant drop of fps. Other tracks run perfect, even Dundrod50, that in my opinion is far better for my eyes.
I tried reducing resolution, details, sound, details on mirrors, nothing changed till I disabled some object on the border of the track and that was the trick, Of course all turn signs and sponsor tables were transparent like those at the hairpin and those at pits.

Grats on P3 JonnyO  thumbup2

Incidentally, the game crashed for me in qually when I hit Claudio who was sticking out of a hedge. He'd got stuck but the rear of his car was on the racing line on the exit of a blind bend. The CTD seems to happen when there is a huge crash (i.e. in-game car crash) which would probably be terminal in a Pro race anyway. If that is the case, then couldn't use this track with intermediate damage. The chance of a reset after a big crash would be gone.

Thanks for the feedback Fulvio. It looks like this track is just too heavy on the graphics to be reliable. I'm not surprised your eyes were sore after the race. You did very well to finish, I'm not sure I would have managed that.

  This track has two problems!

first, it is a work of art!!!!! you don't get tired of observing details along the way, and it makes you make silly mistakes.
second, it's really heavy for some computers, there are some spots where I have 16 fps , that's scary!

Well!  Phil certainly had everyone covered in this round, didn't he?  Pole, FTD and a comfortable race win.  Top marks all 'round, PT!  Smiley

Most certainly, a lucky P2 for me.  As ever, I treat the GP55's with great care and reserve.  On this circuit, it's the only formula to survive.

Off the grid, I managed to get by a couple of those pesky Gordinis and take up P5 behind Pete.  That soon evolved into a Gordini sandwich with Clay up ahead and Clive Loynes close behind.  Poor Clive suffered a disco from a spin on Lap02 to take the heat off my tail.  On Lap04, I got a slipstream run on Clay along the front straight to make a clean pass up to P4.  I was able to gradually pull away and was shocked to see my pitboard flash me that I was now P3 with Pete's unfortunate departure.  More luck...good and bad...as Evil Clive stuffed his Conaught into the hedge to be stuck fast on Lap07.  Clay suffered a virtual carbon copy of the same miserable fate from P3 with just two laps to go.  For the last laps, I just made sure to hit my marks and not do anything to jeopardize a tasty P2 finish.  Jonny comes home a good P3 and Fulvio perseveres for a fine P4 after a remarkable misadventure down in the hairpin.  Good job to stick with it, Fulvio.
