Season 41 – 1966 F1 Series – Clermont Ferrand

Into the second half of the season and Round 5 of the 1966 series will be held at Clermont-Ferrand on circuit CHARADE in Auvergne where four Formula One French Grands Prix were held : 1965, 1969, 1970 and 1972. Due to drivers cutting corners, a stone thrown from Emerson Fittipaldi's Lotus hit Helmut Marko in the eye during the 1972 French Grand Prix, ending his F1 career, as well as that of the circuit. The stones also had caused ten deflated tyres, but no big crashes. The French Grand Prix moved back to the new Paul Ricard Circuit, where the French Grand Prix was held in 1971.

A driver must cross the start line in order to register the use of a chassis, participation in qualifying is not sufficient.

The tokens system will be used with drivers being awarded tokens for starting the season and for starting each race. Each car will cost a number of tokens per race. Pro standard drivers will receive 10 tokens at the start of the season & a further 10 tokens for each additional start. Amateur drivers will receive 20 tokens at the start of the season and a further 10 tokens for each additional start. Driver ranks can be found at the bottom of this e-mail.

Drivers are reminded that Lap 1 incidents carry an extra 1 place penalty.

Drivers must complete 50% race distance to score.

Unlimited number of Shift-Rs are allowed with no need to make Stop & Go.

Only reported incidents will be moderated.

Please, excepting emergencies, no chat until Session Completed in qualification. No chat in the race until ALL drivers still racing have crossed the line.

Please check Season 41 details regarding rules and the 1966 F1 Privateers Championship pages in particular.

That was a lot of fun but a lot of hard work. It's difficult to concentrate  Roll Eyes here for 14 laps. Thanks to Fulvio for the racing. That was fun!  Grin  Grin  Grin  Grin  Grin  Grin  Grin

A ninth place finish seems nothing to be pleased over but let me say that I am quite happy to have got the Red Ball Special around this tedious circuit with only one drama and certainly, no resets.  That's just not in my playbook.  As well, I ran the snot out of the Honda bettering my personal best in the car by almost two full seconds.

Got away carefully from the grid and fell in behind Dave's Eagle.  Soon, I had Bot close astern recovering from his T1, Lap01 goof.  I hadn't even seen him off the road.  I don't use Pribluda to monitor placings...no self-respecting individual with an ounce of integrity does...so didn't know who was giving me a hard time.  Lost the script when I came upon Dave's spun Eagle and had a minor spin in the distraction letting Bot go and Dave to get well ahead.  Pursued Dave again and slipped by for the place when he went wide in one of the twisties.  Spent the rest of the race just pressing on with only one lap scoring a '64'.  Pleased with that.  The vision faded slightly mid-race but didn't present a problem.

Kudos to the podium and all finishers!  Smiley

It was a quiet race at the top. Both of my fellow front-runners made an error on lap 1 which put them down the order on the track where overtakes are so difficult.

On that note, I almost made one myself as I didn't account for Leo being next to me past T1. Sorry for that, entirely on me. Luckily netcode was being friendly for once.

See you next race.
