Moderator's Report

Summary
A typical slipstream battle at Reims with Leo Menegucci emerging on the top spot with Bob Simpson is a very close second place. Evil Clive grabbed third place after a minor mistake on the last corner of the penultimate lap robbed him of a chance to participate in the drag race to the finish.

Lap 3 – Courbe Annie Bousquet – Francesco Molteni and Pete Bennett
Pete leads Francesco into Courbe Annie Bousquet. Pete takes the normal racing line but Francesco is on a tight line, presumably in an attempt to overtake but he is too far back. As the cars approach the apex very minor contact is made which tips Francesco into a spin and he is off into the cornfields. Pete is unaffected.

Pete was ahead and Francesco had no overlap so Pete was entitled to take his normal racing line. Pete could have opted to stay wide in an act of self-preservation but given that Francesco’s car was visible in his mirrors at turn-in, such a move should have been unnecessary.

Francesco had no overlap at turn-in (in fact he was 4 car lengths behind) so he should have conceded, however he pressed on into a gap that wasn’t there. Whilst any contact in cases like this is the responsibility of the following car, a penalty here would be harsh as the contact was very minor, Pete was unaffected and it could have been avoided altogether if the 55s had decent brakes.

Season 42 - 1955GP – Round 4 – Reims

For the fourth race in the 1955 Grand Prix series finds us at Reims in France.  The circuit is basically several long straights with a couple of hairpins and a few cornfields. Catching a tow is what this track is about. It normally produces close racing. Reims-Gueux was first established in 1926 on the public roads between the small French villages of Thillois and Gueux. The circuit had two very long straights between the towns, and teams strove to maximize straight-line speed of their cars; many slipstream battles ensued. Race organizers actually felled trees and demolished old houses in order to make the circuit even quicker. International racing came with the first official Formula One event occurring in 1950, the inaugural year of the Formula One world championship. The circuit layout was shortened and changed in 1952 to bypass the town. In the 1954 race, the long-awaited Mercedes W196 with its straight-8 fuel-injection engine made its debut with Juan Manuel Fangio transferring from Maserati to join an otherwise all-German line-up of Hans Herrmann, Karl Kling and pre-war driver Hermann Lang. It was a dominant return with Fangio recording a practice lap of 124.31 mph. He and Kling led away and continued to race side by side around the Reims track. The Ferrari drivers simply couldn't cope with the pace. There was no race at Reims in 1955 and when the Grand Prix circus returned in 1956, it was without the silver arrows. Fangio dominated again but this time in a resurgent Ferrari team who's drivers also claimed the remaining podium places.

Hi Moises
Yes, of course you can take part in this race  thumbup1.

At Monza there was no incident reported that you were involved in (the crash at Parabolica on Lap 1 was not reported). If there was you would have received a PM asking for you to submit your version of what happened. Even if there was an incident, we generally don't issue race bans for a single incident. A race ban usually only happens after a driver has committed a number of serious errors.

You were excluded from the results of the Monza 10K race because you didn't have enough tokens for the Mercedes-Benz W196.

Your token spend is as follows:
Round
  Tokens Before Race
 Tokens Earned
 Car
   Tokens Spent
Tokens After Race
Silverstone
10
10
Vanwall
9
10 + 10 - 9 = 11
Spa Francorchamps
11
10
Lancia
15
11 + 10 - 15 = 6
Monza 10k
6
10
Mercedes-Benz W196
18
6 + 10 - 18 = -2

Because you overspent (i.e. tokens were -2), your tokens are reset to zero. So when you get 10 tokens for starting the next race you will only have 10 tokens with which to buy a car. So for Reims you can only drive either the Gordini, Connaught, Vanwall or Ferrari Tipo 625. If you take any other car you will overspend and get excluded again.

Ok Phil, i just noticed i can see the tokens available on the championship standing page, when i put the cursor above the points table. I haven't noticed that since the token are not being posted on the race pages.

Well, thank you, see you guys on track!

I hadn't driven this track very much at before now. It looks great for online racing with plenty of opportunities for a good tow. Monza without the banking. Vive la France.

But you need brakes here. The tow down the hill is significant but the corner at the end is tight.

You can still visit the track, I've been a couple of times. Very atmospheric.

Would love to call in to La Garenne Restauraunt , sit at a table facing the track and order one of those gourmet french dishes avec Tomato Sauce !

With SRMZ still down, has anyone got a copy of pitstop patch v1 (the one that doesn't shred your tyres but lets you refuel). Thanks in advance.
