Season 42 – F1 67 WORKS – Round 5 – LAGUNA SECA
Laguna Seca started out as a lake, which is how it received it’s famous name. Laguna Seca is spanish for Dry Lagoon. The race course was built around the dry lake bed. The circuit's signature turn, the downhill-plunging Corkscrew sets the Laguna Seca apart from other race tracks built around the same time When the track was built in 1957, it was built at a cost of $1.5 million, which was raised from local businesses and local individuals after the nearby Pebble Beach Road Races were abandoned for being deemed far too dangerous.

The first race, which was held on November 9, 1957, was won by Pete Lovely driving a Ferrari. In the intervening years, the track has hosted USRRC, WSBK Superbike World Championship, American Le Mans Series, Trans-Am, IMSA GT, CART, Grand American, Can-Am, Monterey Historic Automobile Races, Formula 5000, Speed World Challenge, AMA (American Motorcyclist Association), and MotoGP motorcycle races.

This is one track that I just can't get dialled in. Every lap is as though I've never driven it before. I'll be in the BRM again but promise to keep out of the way.

Engine blew after about 15 laps... if only it had hung on to half way...

This is a very different circuit to the one I've ridden - pits on other side of the track now and T1 goes left for a couple of 90 degree rights and rejoins with a left hander before the bridge - the left hander is where a vicious drive-by noise meter ruins all the fun to save all the poor little millionaires who built expensive houses near the circuit and were surprised it was loud at weekends - kn***eads...

Apols to the Ferrari I had contact with at the last corner, but you were warping all over the place, no idea where you were..

I had a few framerate issues so I lost it on about lap 4  taz.  Pity I was enjoying the view of Doni's gearbox. On the positive side I've worked out my problem. The graphics settings for the gpl67c.exe had gone missing. It is fixed now ready for the next race  Roll Eyes

It was a very difficult race, this version of Laguna Seca looks tight for the 67 . At some point my rate also dropped, and I think that's why I ended up hurting my friend Doni, I made a mistake on the penultimate corner, my car opened the entrance to the corner too much and, I think, Doni tried to go more on the inside and that made his car take the inside and be thrown to the sticky straws!!!
Seeing Doni go out like that at the start was really painful........ then I just tried not to make a mistake and I have no idea how I ended up 2nd.
Congratulations to Leo, a dominant championship

Supremely disappointed to have my race terminated in of all things, a snow fence.  Groan...  It's done my title hopes no good whatsoever.

I was chasing Jonny in his rapid Cooper when, on Lap11, he missed the apex of T8 by a country mile.  In my taking stock of where he was going, I dipped the RF tyre in the gutter and the Brabham hooked right onto the grass.  I didn't think it a big deal but I struggled to get the car straight.  In a moment, I was into the snow fence and stuck fast.  A likely podium up the spout.

Not that I was alone in misfortune.  Phil, Greg, Baab and Bot had miserable fates with Greg, at least, salvaging a P4.

Nice job by Leo for the win.  Jonny for a solid P2.  Roberto nails down P3.  Well done, chaps.

A brazilian double at the podium. Congratulations Jonny! We could lock out the podium if Jungle was more fortunate. It looks like almost every one had a miserable race.

I was kinda surprised to see a couple of Brabhams again considering the toke situation. I felt great in the Cooper, just not as fast as the Brabs, so starting and finishing in 3rd was a great result. The front runners showed their usual blistering pace at the start and later I had some challenge from Jungle from a distance that he at the end could maintain. I just had to stick with my race pace and make no mistakes in such an unforgiving track. Luck again as on my side. GregT was not in his day, tough luck mate, and again the Brabham showed it wont take all that abuse without consequences, victory landing on my lap in the last few laps.

Just hope I don't screw up the last half of the season in Bautista stile. Cheers!

Congratulations Leo, Jonny, and Robert! Leo has done great with his driving and car choices. It might have been wise for me to drive the Cooper like Leo.

What a bizarre race! I apologize for any and all chaos I may have created. I wish I could have beaten Tristan to T1 at the start. It wouldn´t surprise me if I´d have been more consistent in the lead.

I fought an overheating right front tire in qualifying. I was surprised to be struggling with both rear tires over heating in the race. Usually the car understeers more on race fuel. Almost every time you saw me off the track my rear tires had over heated.

This is one of my better tracks. It showed with my fastest lap times and the fact I actually finished, but this has to be one of the worst races I´ve ever driven here. I´ve been driving at Laguna Seca since the 1990s. I spent a lot time learning to drive IndyCar Racing 2 at Laguna Seca. ICR2 used the newer layout but I think the time I spent with it helped me a lot later with GPL.

I still have a lot to learn about driving the Brabham. I think I underestimate it. With lower hp, I expect it to be easy to drive and not so capable of setting it´s tires on fire. The only car I am less comfortable with and less consistent seems to be the BRM.

Even with all the frustration, I still enjoyed driving the car.

Thanks for the fun guys and my apologies for any problems I caused. See you next time.
