F1 69Xtra – Round 5 – Silverstone - March 19

Next stop of the 69X F1 finds us at Silverstone in England. Silverstone is built on the site of a World War II bomber base, RAF Silverstone, which opened in 1943. The track hosted the first F1 championship race in 1950. The British Grand Prix has been permanently held here since 1987. The airfield's three runways, in classic WWII triangle format, lie within the outline of the present track. The first two races were held on the runways themselves, with the 1949 International Trophy switching to the perimeter track. This arrangement was used for the 1950 and 1951 Grands Prix. In 1952 the start line was moved from the Farm Straight to the straight between Woodcote and Copse, and this layout remained largely unaltered for the following 35 years. The 1954 British Grand Prix was held at Silverstone and was won by Juan Manuel Fangio in a Mercedes M196 2.5 L8. Fangio raised Silverstone's lap record, breaking the 100 mph barrier with a lap of 100.35 mph. After an outing at Aintree in 1955, the British Grand Prix returned to Silverstone in 1956 when Fangio won again, this time in a Ferrari. Since 1975 the track has been extensively remodelled. Tonight we will be using the 1967 layout.

In S42 the tokens system will be used with drivers being awarded tokens for starting the season and for starting each race. Each car will cost a number of tokens per race.
Check the Season 42 details regarding rules and the 1969 F1 Championship pages in particular.

At this hour, I can only see the Works password.  Perhaps the two passwords are reversed, as Works already have 20 drivers registered. Huh

I managed to miss the shenanigans at Maggots on lap 1 and I tried to settle into a normal train but I didn't know Greg was on my inside at Becketts. We touched and I ended up on the banking, thankfully undamaged so I set off in pursuit. The competition is so tough in the Works, any mistake is very hard to recover from. However, I managed to catch Fulvio and had a decent battle. I then picked up more places as Evil, Greg and Enrique had their own mishaps. I then had Dulima a couple of hundred metres up the road, so I pressed on but I should have consolidated my position. I pushed too hard at Chapel and ended up on my roll bar. Rookie error again!

Managed to luck into 2nd, but Ferrari engine let go (didn't seem to be overheating/over-revving).

Congrats all finishers!  I think a win for Ferrari,  but may need some investigation.
Also good result Billy!

Cheers,
Dave.

Yes, the race did not import at first because the html export had Martin in 5th, a lap down which differed from the semikv file. But the replay has him winning. I assume it was a server issue and it just dropped him from the export so I've manually edited the export file and reinstated Martin as the winner.

My thanks for the Stewards inquiry. euro

After suffering a couple of disasterous races, I've had to clone my peripherals - Logitec GT's.  A relatively painless operation, performance was instantly restored.

Taking the lead, my plan was to lap the entire field as soon as possible,  Except, I'd an annoying speck distracting me from my task.  I couldn't lap David while his Ferrari inhabited my mirrors.  Not unless racing backwards with a 1min 20sec lead, and my car was not geared for this.  However, my quandry disappeared, when he fell off at one third distance.

With no blue flags forthcoming, but mirrors decluttered, a win was awaiting my arrival.  whereapon, a languishing rival decided on a sneak attack!  With few laps left, Phillipe took no time for mirror infestation, but stormed past into the lead.  Only to drop a motor during his hurry to scurry.

With the finish in sight the mirror trouble resumed, with a Claudio cosying up in there!  T'was only by testing the strength of my new right pedal, did I find the finish line first.  It's clear, an improvement to my mirrors is needed, to make the Season worthwhile. Wink

Up from 9th on the grid to score the win?  Not too shabby!  Well done, Pete.  Close behind was Andreas with a stirling drive.  Uli making it close in P3.  Well done, chaps.

Rather miffed to have lost the engine on my Cooper.  A thoughtless and unnecessary change-down to 1st gear for Becketts on my last lap didn't really buzz the engine but moments later, it gave up the ghost.  Sigh...  If I'd managed to carry on to the finish, might have copped a useful P7.

Lots of off-track excursions witnessed by me in the early laps.  Boys, boys!   Roll Eyes
