Season 42 - 1965    Round 6     Brands Hatch

The sixth race in the 1965 Best-of-British series finds us at Brands Hatch in Kent. The first race to be held at Brands Hatch took place on 16th April 1950, it featured 500cc cars competing over a version of the "Indy" circuit (without Druids Hill Bend) in an anti-clockwise direction. During the 1950s the track was extended to include Druids Hill bend, Paddock Hill bend and the racing direction was changed to clockwise. It wasn't until 1960 that the full Grand Prix circuit was created. The British Grand Prix has been held at Brands Hatch on 12 occasions and the European Grand Prix has been held there twice.  The 1967 Grand Prix was won by Jack Brabham and the 1968 race by Jo Siffert driving a Brabham Repco BT19 and a Lotus-Cosworth 49B respectively.  There have also been numerous non-championship Formula 1 races most notably the Race of Champions in 1967 which was won by Dan Gurney in the Eagle-Weslake T1G.

The BT7 is a great handling car but at bit down on power for this track. Nevertheless I had great battles with Evil, Bob and Fulvio. But I couldn't keep up with Tom in another BT7. Grats on being the best BT7 Tom. I picked up a couple of places when Evil spun (I presume on hot tyres as he was sideways everywhere  Grin ) and when Fulvio went off too. Bob gradually reeled me in and made a great pass into Paddock Hill bend. I thought he might run wide and give me a chance to come back at him at Druids but he was too good. I tried to keep up but I spun and let Fulvio back through so I decided to try to keep the car on the tarmac to avoid being caught by Evil. Some great side by side racing with Fulvio

Please be patient. Results are on the way but I have to sort out the car numbering issue in the semi file and html export.

UPDATE: should be there now. Note to self - remove drv65.ini files from server tracks.

Very close racing with Fulvio and Evil for the first few laps until Evil had a spin. A lap or so later Fulvio had a spin giving me another position. If not for their spins I don't think I would have been able to pass them. I spent the rest of the race trying to catch Pete and Axel, but the BT7 didn't have enough speed to close the gap, and they weren't making any mistakes. Phil, I think team BT7 did a great job to finish as well as we did. Congrats podium, and congrats team BT7!

Well done on sorting that out Pete. It is a pain when that happens  thumbup2

Grats to the podium and "Team BT7" lol. It is a fun car to drive and is just competitive with the faster machinery when driven on the limit.

You were quite correct Phil about hot tyres, but it was a very odd experience. The race started well fortunately I avoided the incident on Paddock Hill Bend, and tried to get into the slipstream of the faster cars ahead. For the first few laps my tyres were fine and I had no handling issues, but then the left rear went red in less than a lap and the car became very twitchy and unstable, snap oversteer out of corners etc, which is when I had my spin(s) and lost several places.
I rejoined behind Billy and passed him, only to run wide again and relinquish the spot...rear tyre still red!! I dropped my pace for 2 laps to get the tyre cooled, and then set off after Bill again.
I drove the rest of the race at a similar pace to the first laps and the left rear tyre remained solidly below 240F, allowing me to regain a few places. I can only think that at some point I over did the drifting and super heated that left rear tyre?? Never had that before??
