Thanks Cookie
Yes, the last couple of times I did join through IGOR as usual
As Dave suggested I added the local server address to the player machine address list
and it seems to work ok.

I do allways join my server via iGOR never locally.

Just curious,  have you got some specific configuration in place for that?
(I think some Fritz!/AVM devices support NAT loopback/hairpining for example? Not sure if it would need to be enabled or automatically applied/ Maybe depends on firmware version?)

I certainly have some rules in place,  but maybe there are differences relating to router capability & whether the feature needs manual enabling or not?

And yes,  server seemed fine!  thumbup1

I just added the local server address into the address book in the player GPL as you suggested
and I joined locally once, then after that I joined via IGOR, and I did nothing else

So, I need help again... sorry, but I am determined to get a working server, one way or another.
Dave Curtis has been a great help, and others previously  thumbup1

I am writing this on my dual boot into Mint20. I thought I would try to get things working on this
machine, being as it now runs GPL, under Win10 with no issues (that I am aware of)

1: So? lets install wine, which I have done on a Mint21 VM, using the WineHQ page, and following the steps listed there
I tried on this for Mint20, and MInt21 just in case:

matt@matt-System-Product-Name:~$ sudo dpkg --add-architecture i386
matt@matt-System-Product-Name:~$ sudo mkdir -pm755 /etc/apt/keyrings
matt@matt-System-Product-Name:~$ sudo wget -O /etc/apt/keyrings/winehq-archive.key https://dl.winehq.org/wine-builds/winehq.key

Good start.  Shocked ... done this a couple of times before no prob. Not too bothered about that, as my player is not going to be a server
just thought It would make a good test.

2: My Mint21 VM has wine9 and winetricks, it has a C:\ and a Z:\ I can launch GEM+ and IGOR
it has progfiles and prog filesx86

the only option for graphics that it accepts is software. OpenGL works on the WIn10 VM server, but not on the Minty one
I get errors I've posted before saying it can't find OpenGL :
https://phspok182510top.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/Racevirt/Screenshot+from+2024-02-05+20-17-04.png

IGOR things it is running, and you can join it as far as the network screen, but the GPL graphic sits there with a black screen and the hour glass for ever.

3: Wrong post, but I'm on a roll:
The WIn10 VM can run a standard GPL server fine, we have tested it (Dave Curtis an Mr Hawk)
but with mods (tested with 55 and 67F2 ) it  starts loading tracks (I've tried with Sierra and mod ones) and then drops back to IGOR
or back to GEM if I try to run GPL from the bottom right green box.

I may need to shrink these pics perhaps....

ANything above sound familiar to anyone?

Why don't you try Direct 3D rasterizer, Wine has the Direct X functions,
else try the old MS DX9 redist update, I often do install this in wine Wink

Maybe something with the permissions of the VM to share the resources of the GPU - I have no idea of VMs...

Thanks Cookie

There is a differerence between Phys and Virtual
But other people are running virtual Linux servers and it works.

My Win10 phys PC can run a server at Balcace for example
but my virtual Win10 fails to load the track. though it will run standard tracks fine.

I may have the DX9 redist somewhere, I will give that a go. ANything other than software fails
I have tried all the other options. OpenGL (v1) works on the Win10 VM, but not on the Linux one

My Mint(s) are cinnamon, maybe there is a difference there, I will build another one with xfce

I have no difference in running wine in XFCE or cinnamon.

But you maybe should try the wine 6.0.3 of the mint repository wich allways is my fallback, it is save running GPL.
The new versions have problems, I had hoped wine9 will be better as it brought FFB back to GPL, but leaving the game it makes a 640x480 desktop.

Another possible hint: run wine windowed but GPL should run fullscreen, so it makes a small 640x480 window as long it is in menues.

Right

I can easily make another Mint VM and the default Mint wine seems to be 5
I may have 9.1.

If you use mint 21.3 the default wine is the 6.0.3

I quickly setup a Mint 21.0 under VMware & it works locally (don't have full ports open from Internet, so not accessible externally).
F2 mod initially crashed WINE,  but works with a workaround.  Matt - I've sent you a PM with something to try.

I bought a minipc (AMD 7840HS, 780m integrated card, 16gb dual channel ddr5 ram), and I'm trying to see if GPL will run under Mint installation. I followed the guide, copied over my working GPL installation, installed GEM+, pointed it to my GPL folder.
In mint I'm using 125% scaling which seems to mess with wine interface.
For example, iGOR looks like this:

GPL when started via GEM+, is running only in the corner, and graphics don't look right even in that window:

When I leave GPL, my desktop is set to 1024x768 resolution.
I haven't gotten to my wheel setup, since there is no point in going further until I can solve these graphical problems.
Anybody got any idea what can I try?

System is Mint CInnamon 21.3, wine is 6.0.3 from software manager.
Gem+ screen:

Rasterizer screen:

Graphics screen

My desktop is set to that same 2560x1440 resolution.
winecfg screen, I changed dpi to 240 as the window was tiny with default dpi:

The problem is the AMD iGPU wich does not support our openGL version.
It can be pushed by CoreCtrl to bring better fps with D3Dx https://gitlab.com/corectrl/corectrl
The cpu can be pushed in performance mode by cpupower-gui
For this recent AMD hardware you must use the last kernel 6.5 for mint

alternatives

Try the WineHQ.org recent wine-devel install via terminal (ubuntu)

Another OS is manjaro wich uses the newest kernel 6.8 but the standard AMD iGPU support is also minimal
ps
Fun fact - a passive NV GT1030 for my office pc runs GPL in all its glory...

I'm using kernel 6.5 (needed it for wifi).
CoreCtrl  is not available in Mint 21.3 repositories. I'm not sure how safe it is to add ubuntu version from a ppa, even on CoreCtrl  site they say it can break the OS. This shouldn't solve that graphical problem anyway, just give me more fps, if everything else is working. I assume same for cpupower-gui, but I really don't think this cpu needs it for GPL. I'm seeing reviewers playing Cyberpunk on this exact minipc.

I'm not going to switch distor's, I have setup everything in Mint that I need for a desktop replacement.

If I try winehq, I assume I need to uninstall the official version? Delete everything GPL related and start over? Which version is going to work with GPL? I saw some discussion about GPL not working with new versions.
On winehq site there are two version on the front page, stable is 9.0 and development 9.6.

This CPU will idle running GPL, as wine (like w10) does not recognize it as a 3D app... so you have to set it in performance mode  Wink

Mint uses the same Ubuntu/mint wine version as it is mentioned there so no risk. I had mentioned the 6.03 because the 7+8 had lost the FFB we need. 9 works for me!

Your AMD APU is so new that wine6 can not know it...

installing the recent wine-devel includes the uninstall, so no problem Wink

I use 6 mint PCs for all purposes so I know it. But mint is very conservative with new hardware and drivers.

Manjaro is the rolling OS with the latest kernels and drivers, so I think it better supports your RAM and APU.
The desktop can be the same cinamon or XFCE - it is free so only time invested to test it...

I removed wine 6 and installed wine 9 dev. Scaling in winecfg is now correct, but GPL still runs in a corner only, and leaving GPL leaves me in an even smaller resolution (probably 640x480) where the only thing I can do is restart, as everything is too big to see any options.
I installed CoreCtrl  and cpupower-gui, but I have no idea how to use them. Do you have any settings recommendation? When should I use them, how to turn them off, as I don't want my pc to work at it's max when it's not needed.
