UKGPL Summer Break – 1965 F1 – Funrace -  Schottenring - Aug 13

we visit the Schottenring, a motorsport race track situated near Schotten in the Vogelsbergkreis of Hessen, between Fulda and Gießen.
After Nürburgring, Schleizer Dreieck, Solituderennen and AVUS, it was one of Germany's oldest race tracks, inaugurated on 22 July 1925.

A fantastic ride with these little cars  - should provide some FUN Wink

Unlimited number of Shift-Rs are allowed with no need to make Stop & Go.

Congrats Cookie, Andreas and Tristan!

Good race, fun track and beautiful countryside

I had to use one shift R. I am lucky that I did not need more.

I chose the BT7 because I hoped that it would be more forgiving for all of my mistakes.

It really was rewarding once I learned the track.

I haven't driven this track for years but after a few practice laps I started to remember where it went. You need a good rhythm here. As I got faster in one section I became too fast for the next so I kept crashing in practice as I tried to drive at a pace where the turns flowed into each other. I clearly need more practice because I had a few more offs in the race itself. Apart from the beginning and the end it was quite a lonely race but still competitive as I monitored Pribluda and watched Martin steadily catching me. We exchanged places on the last lap and I just squeaked home ahead. Great drive Martin. Congrats to Cookie on what looked like a great recovery to mug Andreas on the last lap. Unlucky Andreas, you must have led for 90% of the race distance Shocked

I had the same feelings as Phil regarding this track and it took me 5-6 laps to "dial" myself in and find the right gears/line in the BT7.
Axel and Tris were posting some impressive times at the front of quali around 8 secs faster than anyone else, so it looked like being a two class race.

As expected at the start the front row vanished over the horizon as I sat on Andreas's tail and waited for the tyres to warm up. Then we came across the two leaders recovering from some off road action and suddenly we were running 1st and 2nd. I was in no hurry to force a pass on Andreas, in fact I was hoping that by sitting 50 mtrs back it would allow him to go a little faster and drag us both further ahead of the chasing pack, who it appeared had got involved in the rejoin of the early leaders?
After a lap of following Andreas at a respectful distance I figured that he was driving in "safe" mode and not pushing hard enough  Roll Eyes. I could see on Prib that Axel and Tris had started to recover and I knew with t
heir pace advantage they would soon close the gap. So I closed up onto the gearbox of Andreas and almost pushed him to speed up. With the BT7 I needed the slipstream on the fast sections to get fast lap times and the lack of grunt out of corners against the Lotus would make taking the lead position difficult to defend, so I sat back and watched Axel's BRM get ever closer.
I did not exactly give Axel a free pass when he caught us, but when he made his move on a fast section I had no defence anyway. Then Axel had a brain fart after clipping the fence and did a good impression of a bowling ball that left Andreas and me get back to our battle !!

I made a couple of mistakes but each time I was able to easily close the gap to Andreas and started to think that it was time to challenge for the lead before Axel caught us again. I did briefly take 1st spot but got distracted by Prib and the gap back to Axel, so missed a downshift and ran wide. Again I caught Axel and Andreas in time to see Axel do it again, and blow his engine. He was not having a good race  Undecided

Last lap and Axel had chased us down again, Tris was closing in and I could see a very crowded finishing line developing.............until I missed the same gear at the same spot and allowed the podium places to be decided without me  taz

I don't think there was ever more than 2 secs between Andreas and myself for the whole race and Axel and Tris managed to dangle the chance of a win for us right up until the final few kilometres.
A truly "fun" race for me.

Another one who couldn't remember which way the track went , but worse was the settings for my G26 wheel , since rebuilding win10 to get around my no green flag problem I found Mr Microprat had lost my previous settings . I have no idea about what the these things can and cant do , in fact it seems to be a bit of a dark art . I try pressing buttons and adjusting settings like it says but there seem to be 3 perameters  in  Gem to set the rates of ff and what have you . at the moment the wheel seems to have a mind of its own . lifting off or coasting in a corner gives the car the characteristics of a catherine wheel so most laps consist of a whole load of girations . Got fed up with trying to cope and retired to watch the footy instead

Grats to the Podium . what a great drive from Axel (though he did have home advantage )  Grin

If you had prevously saved your GEM controls settings as a profile,  look for a .gcs  file  (could have previously saved at C:\Users\Public\Documents\GEM+\Profiles)

This may be totally bonkers now Smiley  but I found the following on SimHQ many years ago related to GEM settings for G25 & have been using them since:

Force Feedback Latency:  .055
Force Feedback Damping:  240
Force Feedback Maximum Force: 145

Of course, there may then be some further wheel-related FFB settings.  I don't think I was using the Logitech Gaming / LGS software.

Dave these settings may be good  not using FFB2 or FFB3 patches

But if you use FFB2/3 please read brr's readme and set the artificial damping and latency to 0

My analyse what your settings do:

Force Feedback Maximum Force: 145 = very high force
Force Feedback Damping:  240 = kill those forces by a big sponge

This helps to not feel the ~7° FFB-deadzone of G2x wheels

My hint to minimize the big FFB deadzone of G2x wheels is to use a little centering spring (~10%) in the windoze settings

PS
I invested a lot of time in the last months into optimizing my wheel settings - it seems to work...

Never mind, Cookie was way faster than me and therefor deserves the win: "The better who wins."  thumbup1
The battle  with Evil was really thrillin and was absolutely awesome.
