Season 43 – 1967 F1 – Round 6 – Privateers - Bottomless Lakes The 6th round of the 1967 F1 Privateers championship finds us in the US State of New Mexico. Bottomless Lakes is located along the Pecos River, about 15 miles (24 km) southeast of Roswell. Established in 1933, it was the first state park in New Mexico. It takes its name from nine small, deep lakes located along the eastern escarpment of the Pecos River valley. This 7.7 mile circuit was raced clockwise in an event called Las Ocho Millas, and in 1966 the winner, Joe Starkey, averaged 113mph in his McLaren Elva-Oldsmobile.

I went on a road trip with the family through Roswell, and we went south east after leaving town. We spent too much time at alien museums and not enough time at the state parks. I am happy to finally learn about this forgotten race track.

Newby Question.
Hi. I have, with the help of the "Clives" managed to get a working install of GPL with GEM2 and Igor I have downloaded Roswell track, and done a few slow laps in an Eagle, as that and the Ferrari are what I used to drive many years ago I am not sure if I can, but I would like the option of joining this event if possible, I have not installed any 67F1 mod, (I will do if it's not the original 67 cars.) I am not licenced. What do I need to do to become licenced?
Many Thanks Matt

We are using the original 67F1 cars. The physics that is. The graphics have been updated from the original game.

You are licensed now Matt. Welcome back to where it all started , GPL still a great sim. If you are trying to understand which car you are eligible to drive, the full championship description is on the championship page. It details the tokens awarded if a driver joins the championship half way through the season. You will get an initial allocation of 5 tokens rather than 10. So with the start money for the first race, you will have a maximum of 15 tokens to spend. So that means the fastest car you can have in this race is the Ferrari. But that means you will have zero tokens to carry over to the next race. Given that you prefer the Eagle and Ferrari it would probably be best to spend the tokens to have on a fast car for the circuit that you prefer. Bottomless Lakes and Bathhurst are addons. Rouen is an original track which I suspect is the one you will be most familiar with. My suggestion would be to take the BRM in this race. It is a heavy car but costs zero tokens. If you have any technical issues in your first race you won't be wasting any tokens and at the end of it you will have 15 tokens to carry over to Bathhurst. It will mean that you can take an Eagle for the final 2 races. The Eagle will be a good choice for Bathhurst and Rouen, they both have long straights.

Welcome aboard Matt. Please also bear in mind the 'kinks' at the end of the start/finish straight at Roswell are a 1st-lap 'accident waiting to happen' so err on the side of caution.

Good advice, thanks guys My thought was to take the Honda, as I used to run that occasionally, and this track is fast so it won't be as much of a handicap... perhaps The BRM is not fun, but I will give it a whirl. Whatever I take I won't be challenging for the lead with not having done this for a lot of years I used to race with Steve Eyeman, Remco Moedt and that generation.. so I will be "rusty"
I have copied the folder into GEM, so is that all I need to do for the 60HZ patch? this Gap patch??? the link from the page goes to a non existent site is there an up to dat one? I'm sure if I read all llllllll the pages it will become clear, but the help is appreciated.

Hi Matt, glad you appear to have beaten your GPL install into submission.
I hope you will enjoy the still vibrant GPL community (and the larger grids than we have in UKGTL ). If you are still having issues with the various patches for 60fps and the Track gap etc. It might be easier if you drop me a PM with your email address and I can send you a complete copy of my GEM/OPTIONS folder (where these devious little bits of code reside) . You can then simply over write your OPTIONS folder and have all the bits that you need.
I know that you are starting with the original 67 cars that you have vague memories of from your earlier career in UKGPL. In time you might wish to venture into the other mods. So, be aware that there are TWO 60fps patches which need to be applied to the correct carsets. If you take up my offer of the OPTIONS folder transplant, both 60fps patches will be in there. The various patches are activated/de activated from the GEM page.......full instructions will be forthcoming here as and when you need them. Once linked to the correct carsets and saved in GEM you can forget about the patches as GEM will apply the correct bits to each carset.

Struggling to understand how 2:59 is the best lap time in race spec . . . . . Ok 'aliens' but sub 3 min is beyond next level. Only sector I can conceive shaving any time is 1 (maybe) 2 but certainly not finding almost half a minute. Hats off to anyone remotely close!
