In one of my early 55mod races I came across Erik vd Heijden at a Spa67 race.

To this day my GPL install shows that he has the lap record at 3:57.288 and I have been looking at the replay and using the analyser to see how it is done.

I cannot comprehend how he achieves the corner speeds and on top of that he reaches 270 kph on the approach to Masta! 

I have checked my calibration and messed with the ratios but I cannot do any better than 264kph and that makes an enormous difference to the lap time at Spa especially when you consider that he reached that speed half way down the straight.

We are both doing 9,000rpm but his horses are pulling harder than mine!

I was wondering if anyone else can match this top speed or am I just chasing shadows?

I tried my best - max 267kph at 8900min no tow!

Overinflating the 55 tyres makes not much difference but had a little success to drive with the last drip of fuel Wink

Are you shure EvH had no tow in that race lap?

None at all.  I watched it all the way.

EDIT:
Ooops!
Actually he did have a tow.  From me. oops
He did so many fast laps, one after the other so I must have previously watched the wrong one.  The tow was worth over a second on the lap and his top speed was about 266kph without it.
Also, I'm flat through Malmedy but can't match the speed that he gets onto the straight with.

I had my diff locked maximum 30:30:6 to get least slip.
~ 3:01 min
23 liters fuel with high consumption first 2 laps - 3rd lap 1 liter left on the line

My diff is 30/85 ; 1

And I had decided to start adding clutches in my next session because I start to lose time when I have to lift to get steering in the long right befor Malmedy.
