SEASON 44  -  1967 F2    PROFESSIONALS         Round 1  -  Blandford Camp

On 25 July 1948, the 3 miles 247 yards (5.05 km) perimeter road around the camp was used to form the UK's first post-war road racing circuit. Around 10,000 spectators attended the first event, a motorcycle race, and the lap record was set by Bob Foster at just over 85 mph (137 km/h). By the time of the third event in April 1949, the circuit had obtained a reputation as the fastest in the country, with speeds over 110 mph being achieved down the straights. In 1949 the circuit was approved by the RAC for car racing but it was quicky deemed too dangerous. At early events, it was not even compulsory to wear helmets. Car racing took place during 1949 and 1950 before moving events to nearby Ibsley, a more suitable airfield.

We have 29 drivers registered for the F2 series in Season 44; a fantastic number for GPL's 25th birthday. UKGPL has decided to create TWO championships, running on TWO different servers. Drivers have been allocated to either the PRO or AM championships. Please check the championship tables below for driver allocations.

I tested yesterday with the Lola, the one using 10 tokens - it's a blast. Car/track combo is awesome. I highly recommend.

As you can see in my avatar I allways like the futuristic cars, I saw them racing 1967 in Hockenheim and I was thrilled by their design

Quote
The Protos was a wingless Formula 2 racing car that appeared in 1967. Powered by the then-standard Ford-Cosworth 1600cc FVA-engine, it was noticeable for its slippery aerodynamic Frank Costin design, with an almost-enclosed 'bubble' canopy over the cockpit and a chassis partially made of the very light but fragile plywood. Although fairly quick on fast tracks, it did not become a front runner and did not score wins during the European F2 season. Drivers included Brian Hart and Pedro Rodríguez.

so I drive the car of Mr. Costin who also represents the Cos of Cosworth and he coincidentally allways had the fastest engines Wink

Sorry Maurice, I don't think my .exe would help you, as I use a german gpl.exe  Roll Eyes

Why not just try GEM+ and then tell us if anything went wrong.

Possible the most frustrating day ever in GPL history for me. Every time I tried to install the track there was a problem, then once that was sorted, the steering wheel would not work, As soon as I got that working the computer decided it needed to upgrade and restart, which ****** me up again. I started to practice with the Cooper and was getting faster slowly. Then the sound disappeared suddenly.. I decided there was no way the PC was going to last a race, so no point using the tokens for the Cooper... so I chose the Ferrari and used qually to try and set it up... didn't work, so started the race in a bad mood, and drove terribly. For the result import, what's ArfArfArf's driver name? Colin Craig?

Fabio Locarno doesn't appear in the list either?

MODS: I've uploaded in both races but please check names. Thanks

You are definately right with Fabio and you must be right with Arf, he was the only unknown driver.

Great race by you Pete. I tried to hold you off but I made too many mistakes. When we were fighting for position at mid distance I could easily pass you up the hill. Were you on full tanks after a shift-R? Earlier in the race you seemed to be much faster. Overall I'm happy with P6, it was a good result for me. I find low power cars on tight tracks hard work. I struggled to get Cuckoo, Anson and Hood consistently right. I totally screwed up Engineers Corner on the penultimate lap trying to post a PB because I had 3 greens on Pribulda. It could have ended in tears, I'd better not do that again  Shocked

TBH that was a little easier than I expected with so many fast names on the grid and also considering that I had opted for the Lola BMW which is not quite as nimble as the FVA cars. Maybe it is the circuit with that long fast section that suits the BMW? When I secured pole with my race fuel setup, it did look good for the race as I was certainly "on the pace".
Tris and Dimitar were right with me on the grid and Pete (the track builder) was lurking back there as well, so a good start was going to be important. I managed to nail the getaway and was ultra careful into that tricky T1 on cold tyres. Then I prepared for the onslaught from those fast guys behind and just focused on hitting my apexes.
There were a couple of squeaky moments on cold tyres but I (just) managed to retain the lead and more importantly a clear track that allowed me to pick my lines and braking points.
Tris and co appeared to have a moment and dropped back and I was able to back off by 5%. Inevitably the gap started to close again, but I was OK with that and just stayed safe. I think I judged the pace about right as the chasing cars were at max velocity and made those small mistakes that cost them time.
For the last 10 laps I was able to cruise and resisted the temptation to go for a sub 1:30 lap which Prib was offering as possible.

Grats to Tris for 2nd and DD for his podium finish.....surely an indication that he is going to become a driver to watch this season  Shocked

I doubt that the next races will be quite so comfortable so I will enjoy it while I can   Wink

And it gets better.. yup, that was me. Partially because I had just reinstalled the F2 mod, but mostly because I am so unused to being to join a race from iGor these days, I forgot to select my F2 profile when joining and entered as my 55 persona and no usable set ups... sorry...

Can my points be assigned to Arf in the standing rather than "Colin"?
