Moderator's Report

Summary
A win for Peter Lohmar in a Cooper with Dave Curtis claiming the runner up spot in his Honda. A well-deserved third place for Pepe Higdon another Cooper.

Server replay time: 0h02m09s

Lap 1 – End of Avenida de Antunes Guimarães – Bernie Darwin and Fabio Locarno
Fabio makes a mistake under braking with cold tyres and spins. Miraculously he doesn’t take anyone out, but he ends up facing the wrong way with half the field bearing down on him. He waits for everyone to pass bar the last car, Bernie Darwin. For some bizarre reason, Fabio tries to perform a 180 in front of Bernie’s BRM which only results in punting the BRM off into the straw bales. Bernie is marooned and out of the race, Fabio can continue.

Bernie did nothing wrong.

Initially Fabio did the right thing, he waited for most of the field to pass before he tried to recover. He just had to wait another couple of seconds for Bernie to get past but instead he jumped the gun and took Bernie out.

Server replay time: 0h05m55s

Lap 1 – Last corner – Francesco Molteni and Ruy Petra
Ruy is very fast and is trying to find a way past Francesco. After being all over Francesco’s gearbox he drops back and is 5 or 6 car lengths behind Francesco as they approach the final corner of the lap. Francesco starts to turn-in but Ruy has left his braking too late and can’t avoid clipping Francesco’s rear wheel. Francesco’s car is catapulted out of the race, but Ruy can continue with his car apparently undamaged.

Francesco did nothing wrong.

Ruy was much faster than Francesco and was trying to find a safe place to pass. Ruy left his braking much later than Francesco, but he wasn’t going too fast, Ruy would have easily made the corner. Francesco was simply being very cautious on cold tyres and Ruy was caught out by the speed differential. Ruy was not trying to overtake at this point, he was trying to keep a safe distance, nevertheless he was responsible for the incident.

I've just had an email this morning advising me that SRMZ has been restored. Not had a chance to check but if it is true hopefully most if not all of what was available on SRMZ will be accessible again. If so, I'll investigate and update the links.

Thanks DC, appreciate that  thumbup1

Was a shame I ran out of petrol, I was rather enjoying the race as far as it went
Qualled better than I expected with the cumbersome BRM, then made a half decent start
other people seemed to bog down, or were probably just being careful
I lifted slightly into Artunes Guiman for a recovering Walter, who had some contact and was lucky not
to bend anything  Shocked then was tapped by someone coming from a long way back, same thing happened
at Blandford, I've looked at replays, and I can't see anything I did particularly wrong in both cases, so got going again
and had a few laps of trying to stay in front of Dave Rainier and Petra (I think) I had been passed up
the inside into the final turn by a Ferri and I gave loadsa room, and went super wide into T1 to get a good run up
Boavista, and managed to outdrag the Ferri and regain the place. He tried the same pass a lap later with someone
but there wasn't as much room, and it didn't go so well. I was pulling out a gap to the chasing pair
who were probably slowing each other, when Dave Ranier got some free air, he was closing the gap
and might have caught if I had done the rest of the race..... My best in the Brum Brum was a 2:19 so maybe
I would have been able to hold him off, maybe not.

Off to Argentina next, to another track I have never seen before  laugh But I have riches beyond the dreams of Avarice
and will start with 40 credits ( I think) so can take anything. I usually favour the Eagle, I never drove the Lotus
in a previous life, and found the Brab to be too awkward, I used to like the Ferrari, so that may be an option

Started at the back to avoid the inevitable  (or so I thought ) 1st lap pile up , which took place as forcast at T3 .

My race ended after Fabio decided it was a good idea to re join the race just as I was approaching the corner , after he had TBoned me I found myself in the sticky straw bales with a screen freeze . Roll Eyes

Some days just don’t go according to plan. Could not string 2 laps together in qualifying so what should have been a 2.17 was a 2.20 lap. ‘If you can’t be fast be careful’ race strategy was working nicely until lap 5 - just forget where I was & ran out of room to stop. One day it would be nice to finish Porto.

It's not Bill Cooper's original SRMZ. Paul Taylor has recreated the basic format and structure of the original, but the bulk of the information lost when Cooper's site went down has not been restored.

I practiced a lot for this event, hoping to stay out of trouble over the course of a 21 lap race. Moises Pereira put in a smoking lap in the BRM so I was surprised and happy to get 2nd for the start.

When the green flag dropped I was able to get a run on Moises going up Avenida da Boavista, but about 2/3 of the way along he started coming back at me, and I thought: opening lap, full fuel load, off the regular groove, cold tires, Pepe is giving me some room, so (for once) made the right decision and backed off. I think if Moises had been able to continue it would have been a process of me closing him on the back side of the course and him gapping me in the first 2 segments.

After Moises got stuck in the velcro, for the next 5-6 laps all I could think was: Don’t do the same thing, idiot. Nearly did about midway thru the race but was lucky to continue.

Congratulations to the other podium finishes; condolences to the guys who were not able to finish. A very unforgiving course.

I'm really sorry Bernie, I misjudged your distance and speed...  Embarrassed
I practiced a lot for such a race and I set my PB in qualify: unfortunately I made a couple of silly mistakes on the few laps I raced

I've had a look and you are right. Unfortunately a lot of good stuff has gone. I'll have to go through the links on the UKGPL web site and update them with the new locations or delete them if the source material is gone for good.
